Thanks so much for this ! I've just made my "ANIMALES ILUSTRES (wind quintet)" video and used many flying squirrel pics for it. I actually used to have one as a pet (PHILIP that was the inspiration for the 4th movement) and I have to say that, even if it used to bite from time to time it is not a dangerous animal at all. We kept it all the time eating sunflower and pumpkin seeds and some nut or almond for dessert occasionally

i've always heard that they can only glide, but on two separate occasions, two different flying squirrels- i saw them ascend in flight. one jumped off the roof of a friends house and appeared to flick it's tail and fly up to a higher point in a tree. a couple years later one was in my house and it jumped out a window and did the same thing- flicked its tail and pitched up to a point in the tree about equal to the level it jumped from, but about 50 feet away. i was surprised!
