Urgh. Gosh i love this movie with a passion. I've watched it so many times lol. I agree that Sissy and tommy are better. They are an amazing couple in the movieee !
This has got too be one of the best movies of all time.I don't think you could get a better bio of her.She had a lot of heart ache but she kept going. She is the first lady of country music.
@TheMMT910....I agree! Loretta is my favorite female singer of all time! (But much respect to Sissy on this song too!) She did a FANTASTIC job of singing in that wonderful, AWESOME movie!! :)
I heard Sissy Spacek in an interview say that she had tried to get a record contract years before with Capitol, when she was a folk singer. (Was it Columbia? I dont remember) But they said it wouldn't really work because they had an artist already that had the same sound, and she said, "Who?" And they said Loretta Lynn, and she was horrified and said, "I don't sound like Loretta Lynn!" Years before this film. True story according to Sissy Spacek.
That scene about half way through the song when the people in the bar quit talkin and started noticing her. Every performer that has gotten anywhere has had a moment like that. Now thats Priceless. Thanks for posting.
Even though "There He Goes" has been sung/recorded by several singers (guys singing "There She Goes") I feel this version by Sissy as Loretta is the best - the steel guitar is just perfect and the band itself is pure country gold. In her book, Loretta says she knew Tommie Lee would have gotten an Oscar, too, if Mooney had helped flesh out his character more - he was jealous. Too sad. Thanks again for posting. - Paula
I don't think it was jealousy on Mooney Lynn's part. It is something that country folk/mountain folk do. We are very protective of ourselves and our families. It is inborn. I never realized this until I moved to a move urban area. I read an article saying that on the inside of Mooney hat there was a tag that said "Like Hell It's Yours". That he was very protective of what was his. Not that it makes it right. Just a thought.
This may be true in a sense but when I read Loretta's book she mentioned that Mooney could have helped Tommie Lee flesh out his role better if he hadn't have felt it was taking away from his own image - not in those exact words but she still knew her husband could have helped more if he'd wanted to. It's too bad, too, as it actually would have benefited everyone. I'm country folk, too, Madison Co. hills of Kentucky, and I love all of Loretta's music. - Paula
I love this song, I love Sissy, I love Loretta and also Tommy Lee Jones. Tommy should have gotten an Oscar, too, for his fantastic performance. I first heard this song by Webb Pierce and, to me, it's a song that sounds good all on its own. When I had read that Loretta picked out Sissy to play her I wondered why her? After watching her and hearing her sing she was the perfect choice. I've always felt that this was quite a milestone for Sissy - showcasing her tremendous talent. Thanks. -Paula
Sissy Spacek does have a fantistic voice! Not to many actors do their own singing. I just love her and Tommy Lee Jones in the Coal Minors Daughter. Four tumbs up for these great actors
not really, although she was so exited when the movie was over, sissy was a dilligent learner and attached herself to loretta till loretta's kids said "mommy you need to stop talkin like sissy spacek"
I just watched this movie for the 1st time and OMG!! I love it! I have this song stuck in my head all the time

Sissy and Tommy Lee Jones are actually better at being Loretta and Doo than the real Loretta and Doo.
Wonder if Loretta harbors an inner resentment ? LOL!
