Everyone always just listens to Genesis Tonight Tonight. I don't think many people know that they had so many great songs besides that one. I heard this song on sirius yesterday. Just another example of there greatness. This song is absolute Beauty.
From the last great Genesis album in my opinion, much better album than Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance. This may be even better than Abacab, the production alone on this album is amazing.
goodness, i had my ipod replay this over and over and over :) This is my number one fave from Phil Collins...i love all his songs except for that Tarzan cartoon theme song. hehehe

One of the best groups of all time!! Check out the solo performance by Phil collins on the tonight show . He sings Always and it WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. Check it out.
THIS IS SIMPLY A BEAUTIFUL SONG. SO FUK"N BEAUTIFUL. Thanks to Phil, Tony and MIke and producer Hugh Padghem. It's great to hear stuff when EVERYTHING just rolls together as it should.
Thank you for posting this masterpiece. Phil provided the soundtrack of my youth in the '70s and '80s. I've kind of gotten away from his music in recent years, but after hearing this, it just reminds me of what a musical genius he is.
@FastEddie95 couldn't AGREE with you more FastEddie. he provided the soundtrack for my youth as well. i too had gotten away from his music but it sure does feel good to hear this again.
@habsman1 I often think about that. I like Gabriel era Genesis but once he left and Phil took over they just got better. If Gabriel didn't quit I still think Phil would have made solo albums though. He just has too much creativity in him.
This was one of their very finest recordings IMO, I couldn't get enough of it. So haunting, at times depressing to me musically - but they just had a gift for creating different moods like this. Phil Collins has one of the most instantly recognizable voices too - sounds commercial but at the same time brilliant - like the Bee Gees and all of the very best artists.
@falldownhard. very well said, a melancholy song with a touch of friendly support, as if Phil is patting you on the back saying you're too hard on yourself. I have sweet memories of this song, Autumn of 1983, I think.
May have lost " the one" for good she`s getting married but she still loves me, I know she cant wait forever for me to make up my "mind" Its been 5 years of on and off. long as she`s happy im happy for her. only time will tell whats meant for us but i must move on PHIL told me im takin it all to hard, and I told him im takin it all to heart, damn...
Thanks for having so many great vids of Genesis! I've heard that the majority of their fans have been guys, but this is one girl who loves, loves, loves, em! Why is it that everybody thinks gals don't like the instrumental parts of songs as much as guys? The bass on No reply at all is kick A**, and there is never a time that Phil doesn't put his heart and soul into his singing. He has that strained quality(the kind that is just right) in any song he sings.mmmm,mmm. :)
Love the changes, vocals, bossa nova beat.....blended like a fine wine. I remember slow dancing to this song with a somewhat quick sway to the beat. Great song to dance to. Brings back alot of memories from the 80s....
Oh the memories. Why was it that the 80s produced such melodious and heavenly music? How did we degenerate into the kind of stuff that passes of for music. Not to say nothing is good today, just that its not very common. I hope this new generation is reintroduced to my generation X's music. Thanks for posting.
@hospitalbedpan1 Actually, Peter Gabriel was the a-hole that left the band high and dry, and almost ruined them. Phil Collins came from behind the drums to lead vocals to make them even better than before. Phil Collins, like many others (Sting, etc.), just moved on to pursue other ventures. I'm glad he did....love his solo stuff.
This to me was one of the best songs off of this album. 1983 was such a great musically! Totally awesome! Brings back incredible memories of my early college years!
I was born in the 80s, so I grew up being exposed to this type of music. I hadn't heard this song until a few years ago, but I loved it right away when I did. It was like that instant feeling I got when I heard my very first favorite song when I was only 4 years old.
This song was taken from their self-titled album GENESIS released in 1983. It contains a lot of my favorites including this one, SILVER RAINBOW, THAT'S ALL, MAMA, HOME BY THE SEA.
yeah the album is just called Genesis, the cover is yellow and black and has picture of some plastic shapes - the kind for toddlers to put through holes that are the same shape

Too bad Phil Collins was a major ahole and ruined the band for a solo career mostly revolving around cheesy love songs :-(
Granted he had a few good hits early on though.
