Well for some one like me who has no sheep 24/7 to work with....I used this method and it was very effective in getting my dog to learn his flanking commands. Dogs are not that stupid of an animal that they cannot relate a command in different situations. I wish people would give them more credit than they get.
teaching sheep flanking like this will not get a great result. Are you throwing food, the dog will be looking for that all the time. Let us see it with sheep. Is this just fancy obedience or sheepdog training?
so tell me, what happens when you actually add sheep to the equation? Dont get me wrong, I understand WHAT you are trying to accomplish, I understand all about OC, shaping, Lure/Reward as well as all the other methods you are applying. I would be interested in seeing the final result of your methods. any chance we could see a video of your dog in an actual herding trial?
why can't one just use left and right?
