have to agree w/ mrwelbourn, ringe was'nt very great at all. The old story goes; when recording the strawberry feilds album lennon had to do some of the more complicated stuff. later in an interview someone asked paul m. if ringo was the best drummer in the world, he laughed and replyed "hes not even the best drummer in the beatles".

fnkdrmmr i totally disagree with you about Ringo Starr. He's a very good drummer and very underrated. he was in the beatles because he had talent and he has a very musical mind. when i listen to strawberry fields forever i'm blown away by his playing. if you really knew how to listen to music, you would hear his grooves rather than make stupid comments like he plays like a third grader.

Ringo who? If you're referring to Ringo Star, Mr. Star plays like a 3rd grader - very basic. Ringo simply lucked-out and joined a successful pop band - The Beatles. If you asked Ringo to play anything other than basic 4/4 time he'd probably have a heart attack and hire Bernard Purdie to play the drum part - then claim he played it. i.e., most of The Beatles recordings.

thats not true at all, smashing pumpkins were a hit band and Darcy, their bassist was terrible. Lars Ulrich from metallica is easily the weak link, he's awful... although it wouldnt be metallica without him. and axl rose was awful, but he had style. its pop culture. not always about skill.... ringo sucked. having one or two memorable beats does not a great drummer make.

Ringo is an amazing drummer with perfect timing. He never wanted to do anything more than the basics. I dont remember the exact quote but he says that he "listens" This is something most drummers cant do. (listen to the drum solo from The End and She Said for some examples of less "basic" stuff) He didnt luck out either, they kicked out Pete Best for him, and two months later they hit it big.... coincidence, i think not
