@JoLLyMaKo mine does the 'sideways body-slam' to me! i once read a comment that said 'how do you know when your ridgie is in the mood for mischief?' it comes and stands next to you for no reason! :-)
my ridgebacks do that too. If they perseve any kind of threat towards you...even if it's just me and my kids wrestling around having fun...my Ridgeback will position himself inbetween us...not attack just block anything from getting to me...they have to go through him first :)
this is my favorite YouTube video ever! my Charlie was using the body block on my toddler nephew to keep him from walking towards the road... i wish i had gotten that on video!
Are the cat and the ridgeback both yours? We have a ridgeback too, they seem to be an extremely possessive (in an affectionate way) kind of dog, whenever I dare stroke or make a fuss out of another dog and he sees it, he actually tries to get inbetween me and the other dog, presses up against my legs! Love him so much though, he's such a big baby!
...for the first minute, I couldnt tell, but then it was obvious, he was protecting the cat, he's so young too! Little puppie.. They are so damn intelligent, I can't beleive my dog sometimes (Ridgeback/terrier mix)..So conscious and aware!
Typical Ridgie showing dominant behaviour already! When my ridgie was 8 months old, an 18 month old German Shepherd took exception to it....my Ridgie put the GS in its place quick smart! At 8 months!!!
Hey'a Janeway. Got her in NZ from a well known breeder who has established a name for herself in breeding true to type Ridgies.. Personally I am glad she is the dominant type as that matches my personality better. She is completely submissive to me, and has learned that it's not her job to say if we 'fight' with outside packs...it's my job to say (which of course I don't cos I don't want fighting)...lol. She is awesome though, one of the best dogs I've had.
...also...lol (they didn't give me enough room)...lol, the strong willed characteristic is important to the original breed for what they were bred for. Well, I think so anyway. So how many ridgies have you had?
ok this is perfect.. the ridgeback shows no fear and also is antagonizing the other dog..this is a beautiful display of the breeds character rarely captured on film..great job!!
my Ridgeback puppy also mastered the sideways body-slam when it came to dealing with her older and bigger Ridgeback house mate

Best home dog in the world. So smart.
When they bark, you need to see whats going on.

That's hilarious!
The RR is body checking the terrier all over the yard. Sign of dominance and establishment of the higher rank.
He was using the cat as a tool to claim this upper hand.
Totally cool, thanks for posting!

My uncle used to have a pair that worked the opposite way. His doberman was a huge softie and the cat used to bully it. haha

Where did you get your Ridgie from? A yahoo RR group was having a good talk about
"softness" evolving in RR breeding, vs dominant behavior.
