This exercise is good if you haven't a lot of strengh compared to your weight. If you want more grip try a campus board or a regular training board. For example the exercise shown in the vid isn't much of a workout for my foreams (I can take my whole bodyweight on two fingers of the same hand)
yo jeff dude i need ur help.i am trying to do pull ups,i have access to 2 kind of bars one is thick and another is thin .on thinner one i can do 3 pull ups but on thicker bar i am not able to do even a single pull up ,what do u think abb this?
Good info , ive got lots of grip exersizes on my page, check me out when I snatch the york 50lb blob, the 2hp developed by David Horne is awesome for grip as well.
Some of the best stuff I have seen for forearms and the neck have come from Matt Furey. He has reprints of some of the original strong man publications.
Basically, for fore arms, its not the contraction that builds strength, it is the continuous application of pressure to a wide grip. Develope clamping strength when doing pull ups; don't rely on the tendons and curved fingers.
I think what you want to achieve is "Boiler" proof forearms, as in the forearms of a pipe fitter/boiler maker. I believe you have the right idea, but a few hints. Look at some of the Navy SEALs training videos, and look at their pull up bar. It is about 2 1/2 " thick.
The Thomas inch challenge was to lift his 100lb dumb bell an inch off the ground. Why could only one guy other then him ever do it? It had a very wide grip.
you could also do rock climbing. Not only does it exercise a wide range of muscles, but the small grip sizes will make your finger tendons rock solid with continued practice
@318r3c08 Put your feet on a chair and bench from the floor make sure you but is in the air and your core is tight WARNING USE A LIGHT WEIGHT OR A SPPOTER BECAUSE IF YOU DROP THE WEIGHT( Well actualy now that i think about it if you drop the weight the 45 pound plates on both sides will hold the bar up becauseyour on the floor so nevermind):)
Rubber band exercises arent hard to do at the gym and if you dont utilize them you are missing out on strength and muscle gains believe it or not. Take your rubber bands and go to the gym and thumb your nose at the meatheads that think iron is the only way. I do 90% of the exercises in Athlean x with bands at home. Some still need a db or a plate but im limited on those so the bands do the trick. I like it when he shows me more stuff to do with em.
Jeff, keep these videos coming -- you're one of the only people I truly trust to demonstrate the best techniques to incorporate into my workouts. I like your innovation, but please do fewer rubber band exercises...they're just harder to do at the gym. Keep up the great work
hey Jeff, great stuff...can u really point out the main reason(or reasons) for 'back spasms'.....and how to address these issues with the proper exercise. been playing football(soccer) and i have back spasms which keep relapsing....thank you man...cheers
Could u please make a video on abb exercise's with limited equipment all I have is bands and a pull up bar thanks ur videos helped alot and now I have 8 pack abbs
I have a questions, somewhat related to this video. When i do pull ups, about half way through my first set I get a pain in the upper part of my neck, around where it connects to the skull. And then a headache quickly follows through, starting from the back of my head and going to the front.
This only happens when i do pull ups, and it usually goes fully away after 45 minutes to a hour. Do you (or anyone) know why this is happening and how it can be prevented. It only started recently.
I noticed that my upper chest is far less developed than any other part of my body, and that having a big middle and lower chest looks funny without much upper chest. I found only a few upper chest exercises on your channel, (thoroughly analyzing your tips) and I'm still having a problem with feeling a really significant amount of contraction in that area. I'm wondering if you could come up with some more exercises i could try, maybe as one of your next bulletproof series videos. Thanks
Now here me out on this. A lot of athletes, especially amateur fighters like myself, noticed our shins wear down faster than bodybuilder types because of all the running and jump roping we do. I am plagued by shin splints if I run two days in a row. It's killing me not to be able to do heavy cardio when I want. Fighters need this cardio training so much more than the average athlete does.
hi! i already tried this and worked a lot. i play tennis and im ussualy a number 3 grip... what i did is started to practice with a grip number 4, and my forearm started to gain muscle.... of course this practice is only for tennis players.
hell man,I like you principles of recruiting as much muscle as possible when working out.We are not meant to work in isolation.-i hate that bodybuilding part of information is soooo tempting and sooooo misleading
I have notice this in the military when there are certain bars on the monkey bars in agility courses that have loose bars. I think the foam brings that concept to a whole different level. Thanks for the idea!
hey Jeff good creative tip here, we have those foam things in our gym, might try and use 1 next time im doing pull ups!! bulletproof quads, shoulders and how about bulletproof protection for your knees?? also a workout in the style of training tennis hero rafael nadal would be nice, the guy is ripped!!! thanks again Jeff
I do pullups on playgounds on the swings and their bar is approximately as wide as your bar after extention. I can tell you from experience that it kills my forearm. I can do 12-15 reps there meanwhile I can do at least 20 on a normal bar.
Hey Jeff. I don't really have the money for any of the bands that you make look extremely useful. I am also preparing my body for the tests of the military therefore wondering, do you have any suggestions for cheap, good bands?
another great vid jeff! ive purchased ur athlean-x program, n im already done with week 1.. i already feel stronger. thnk u so much for sharing! btw, can u make a vid for bulletproof pecs?
hey Jeff, what is your opinion about doing push ups on your finger tips like Bruce Lee? i can do them and i feel like my grip got stronger after doing them... What are your thoughts?
Did something that is pretty similar: did pullups with THICK cloth gloves that are really slippery around the iron bar. Not only does it make the area wider, so you have a bigger grip area which is harder, but I had to really squeeze just to keep myself from slipping.
bulletproof triceps and abb like how to burrn the fat offf the abb area not just buld up the abb cuz thats what i find most of my friends that go to the gym with me struggel with we have abb its just u cannot see it unnless u just fin a workout and how often should u do abbs but ya thx and talk about diet aswell plz thx agen
excellent vid Jeff. I have the Iron gym Xtreme pull up bar that fits into the door frame and all its grips have that foam stuff on them and I like it so much better than any or the real pull up bars I have tried at my gym. I find the having to squeeze more brings my forarms, and rear delts into it more, but still works your back a lot since you are going slower as well
I've seen some pull-up bars with a soft-cushion grips, which sorta acts as the same thing. But I like how your idea has taken what i think, is on step up. It really does train the forearm a whole lot more. Thanks Jeff. Good on you for sharing these tips.

Bulletproof glutes!!! :) You are awesome. I love your tips and I love your 90 day training system. It was a great purchase. I am a woman, by the way. But I bought the men's Athlean X.
That maneuver is very helpful...oh and also one thing...it reduces the pinch factor you get on your palms during gripping whenever you do pulling exercises that results to painful callouses...that extra cushion is really of great help. Thanks very much Jeff.
Jeff, have just started subscribing to you videos. Your work is awesome.
I know you say we miss the point if we think it's about making a gym from home depot, but it's definitely a bonus. The majority of my gym includes chains, metal bars, benches all of which are free or bought from Bunnings (Australia's home depot).
i feel like a poor person when i say this but i dont have a pull up bar but what i use is a tree just a regular tree branch that is nice and thick i use for working out
It was hard to find a cieling that low to work out in. I ended up putting my head through the foam ceiling and then I slipped off the bar breaking my ass and face.
Jeff, I'm an avid rock climber, specifically bouldering and I train using a finger board, doing 3/2 finger pull ups. So my forearms are pretty strong...do you know of any more advanced techniques?
what i do that helps alot with forearms is whenever i lift or do pullups or anything that involves me working out and using my hands, i do something i learned in mma called monkey grip, which is not using your thumb
when the bar is thicker the forearms work more :D

It was hard to find a cieling that low to work out in. I ended up putting my head through the foam ceiling and then I slipped off the bar breaking my ass and face.

Jeff, I'm an avid rock climber, specifically bouldering and I train using a finger board, doing 3/2 finger pull ups. So my forearms are pretty strong...do you know of any more advanced techniques?

what i do that helps alot with forearms is whenever i lift or do pullups or anything that involves me working out and using my hands, i do something i learned in mma called monkey grip, which is not using your thumb
