Kinda worried when i heard about clean hits having a small random damage boost, but this is alright. If you are really in your opponents head, you can anticipate an attack you can execute a quick move and probally punish them
@JediLink123 Quick step allows you to react to attacks because of it's speed and evasive properties, whereas normal sidestepping is better for general movement and anticipation of attacks.
Ok, this is nothing new. SS verts and GI horizontals. This is basic stuff, and all this is just to entice the more novice players to pick up the game.
...Because the outright statement in Zasalamel's bio that he used magic to become immortal and was greatly capable in the magic arts certainly means there's no magic.
Cervantes, Lizardman, Yoshimitsu, and a Xiba (Kiliks replacement whos based off Sun Wukong) are confimed. Lizardman now wields two axes and has wings and Cervantes is now completely human (no more purple skin).
@BackwardsMan Well hes the "First" Lizardman, implying there are multiple ones (well theress that once SC4 stage) so i guess hes the original one or their leader.
@TheSecretAgent Why? Looks good to me, nothing "cheesy" about it.
Personally i dislike games without visual cues that indicate certain moves. In MK there are no such things for when hits connect or are blocked, so it's harder to decide to follow up or not. And i makes a fighter less boring to look at.
New sidestep looks too quick. People don't have the ability to accelerate their mass while ignoring inertia. Bad job Namco Animators! Bad! Plus Patroklos' character design is terrible. Booooo.
@puertorricanstar Nope, I just don't see a need for a new side step mechanic when sidestepping is already a core component to the rock/paper/scissors sidestep/duck/block of Soul Calibur. Do you think the ability for characters to employ some type of physics defying telekenetic side-dash looks cool? Or is it that you are fond of androgynous lady-boys and think Patroklos is right up your alley?
@MantisCrawl Yes, and I'm disappointed Namco hasn't learned from their mistakes and improved character tracking. Notice Ivy's head track Patroklos' movement as he sidesteps, but how she stares straight ahead while performing BB as if she goes blind while attacking. SC2 was easily the best of the series, but tracking and hit detection were a big problem.
@evil5150 a realistic fighter would be a 1 or 2 hit ko, your arguement is invalid, and the quick step is faster, it is posible to dodge more moves now, and there is no rock paper scisor mechanic, i can predict when players will atack vertical, just like sf players can predict when their oponents will jump
@puertorricanstar You could SS verticals before, why add a cheesy animation? Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock. Side step beats vertical, vertical beats crouch, crouch beats horizontal. This shit was in the tutorial kiddo. Get with the program.
from my experience with Virtua Fighter 4 (where I first was exposed to normal sidestepping and a faster sidestepping), the faster sidestepping improved chances of evading. It was a very pleasing mechanic.
Overall, this new SC is simpler than the previous, with clear-as-water mechanics such as this quick move and "ultra" attacks that will appel to both new and casual players. Persoanlly, I prefer versus games with simple mechanics, so it's OK with me.
@bulbastre I was just discussing this with a coworker last night. SC is already the most approachable series for scrubby new and casual players, there's really not much left to dumb down. I feel like Namco is alienating actual fighting game enthusiasts by continuing to pander to the lowest common denominator by adding unnecessary gimmicks.
@evil5150 I don't think is specially approachable when compared to plain Street Fighter games, Smash Bros or hedonistic Dead or Alive. While I agree that the "wind" graphic looks gimmicky and cheesy, Soul Calibur has been looking cheesy to me since the female characters kept growing boobs no matter what and every character had the skin of a newborn baby and glossy blur was used.
About alienating hardcore players, you have to keep a balance between accesible techniques and hardcore techniques. ->
@evil5150 As I said, Virtua Fighter has sidestepping. It's easy to pull out, but difficult to master and combine with more advanced techniques. It's an easy game to pick up but constantly draws a line between new and experienced players.
Smash Bros are games with simple mechanics, but they also draw this line. specially the Game Cube versions, where advanced techinques were introduced (wavedashing, L-cancel)
I think SCV can be an interesting game if it's both accesible and hard-to-master.
@evil5150 "You see that elf over there? The one in the green tunic? Yeah. He's cool. The chick wearing nothing but a bed sheet? Ballin'. Evil golem construct? Empathic demon sword and magic? Zombie pirates? The fact that EVERYONE can take stabs through the chest like a boss and not even bleed? YODA? All good...
...Wait, what's this? Someone's defying the laws of physics... IN /MY/ FANTASY GAME? WE-HE-HEELLL I BETTER COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ON YOUTUBE!"
@OnyxLeo Yes yes yes, SC is about magic and we've already thrown accountability out the window. But what fiction justifies this new mechanic? Did every character pray to the goddess of translocation? Did they study under the priests of windstep? Did they drink a tincture of fermented Pegasus tears? When Cervy busts out GDR it's clear he's up to some freaky magic, but for the most part moves in SC look believable because they've been mocapped by talented actors. What are they all Jedi now?
@puertorricanstar Oh I'm sorry, here I thought posting videos on youtube was an invitation to discussion and criticism. I was unaware my only choices were to buy the game, or to not buy the game and stop complaining. I had no idea I was being such a looser.
@evil5150 dude your complaning about something stupid, the animation looks cool ans sc2 had quickstep this new animation will make the game more spectator friendly and dynamic
@liopwr I disagree. I am spectating this and I find it unpleasant. I don't see how it makes SC any more dynamic if quickstep is a pre-existing mechanic. The animation does not looks cool. As an animator and fan of animation I can say that it looks stupid and that you just have bad taste.
@evil5150 Considering the last game? Yes. It's possibility that every character is a Jedi/Sith now. XD Evil, you need to pick and choose your battles here, especially concerning a fantasy game. While it's true the series itself is shrouded BEHIND realism, the gameplay itself has always been straight up fantasy. You can't say quick step is jarring, and then be okay with Taki jumping above the screen. Double standards like that for certain mechanics are never cool.
@OnyxLeo Ah, but Taki's jump has plausible acceleration and momentum. The new SS just looks cheesy. But whatever, I'll still play it. SC is the only fighter with broad enough appeal that I can get friends to play it. Maybe I can convince my scrubby friends that UMvC3 is worthwhile
@evil5150 People don't have the ability to do alot of things in this game. Not a big deal. I never had a problem evading before this, I think this is kind of unneeded
That is just brilliant. Way to make a totorial funny.
