A new arcade just opened up in my neighborhood. It's called Arcade odyssey, the place is locally owned, and they have tons of awesome games. They have classics like galaga and pacman , but they also got newer games such as street fighter 4.
These people talk like they were their at the time when arcades begin to go downhill in the early 80`s.I`m sure most of them was still swimming around their fathers nutsack when the arcades begin to go downhill in the early 80`s.
arcades became a victim of its own success and the home consoles may one day be a victim of its own success also because this "On the Cloud Gaming" may one day kill the consoles just like the consoles killed the arcades. If it happens it`ll be like Videogame Karma and shit.
@SaiyajinCMC82 Yep when the N64 and PS1 hit the market they made arcades obsolete. Why go to a place to spend a bunch of money to play games that you can not own when you can just play games at home. I miss going to arcades though. So much fun when I was a kid.
The arcades wasn't only about playing games. It was a social place. I remember the neo lights, the loud music and sounds of an overcrowded arcades. Kids don't know what they are missing.
Neo Geo was made for the arcades and cinema, bowling allys they also made a console of it for japanese hotel rooms so it was not marketed on tv. People that could afford it wanted it in their homes the console had some very good fighting and shootem up games that you could play all day and the console and acade was popular to that market till 2004. It's hardware was the same as the 1991 arcades using very expensive processors and larger memory for it's games making it far more expensive.
Neo Geo games were boring, and were not what people wanted? Are you kidding me? The ONLY reason that the Neo Geo did not achieve massive success was the price point of the console and its games. It had nothing to do with the relative quality or appeal of its games.
its a shame that arcades died out...not only for the video games but for the pinball games cuz thats something that can never be recreated to its fullest extent in the home. and when arcades fully die out, so will pinball games and the only people that will have it are collectors and the occasional pizza place.
I like the PV shows, but this has some incorrect/dumb comments..
5:40 The Neo-Geo was released in '90, not '91 (I got mine in Dec 1990)
"The games were boring and not the kind of games people wanted"
What?! The Neo-Geo was an amazing machine with arcade perfect games.
Boring..you probably weren't into games.
6:10 "How do you play a sports game in an arcade.. it's like, IMPOSSIBLE!"
NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Track&Field, Golden Tee Golf, & so on.
Hey, if you want some ideas for new shows MSG me! :)

My mom tells me that she remembers taking my oldest brother to the liquor store when he was like 8 to play the original Donkey Kong arcade game.
I agree with them. They may be dead, but they will always be there for nostalgia purposes.

In the early 90s, an arcade was a place in the mall you went while your mother went shopping, not because the games were any good.
