The negative comments regarding this setting are unsettling in their tone. This isn't the type of music I especially like, but it is tasteful, simple, and appropriate for a quieter liturgical celebration. Why all of the defensiveness? Are you really that convinced that Hillert's 1975 setting is some kind of sacred relic that must stand as the only possible tune used? It is fine in its own way, but it's very 70s sounding and undeserving of the almost idolatrous praise it's being awarded.
I can understand that young like more modern music during worship, but I have to say this makes me sad. This is my favorite song and I think the original tune was beautiful. This just seems to cheapen it. With that said, the message still gets across, so technically there is nothing wrong with it.
I think it's lovely. Thanks. I worship in classical service and love the Lutheran hymnal. I had this song stuck in my head for about 3 days after the first time I heard it on here. We sing it in church and I heard it hear and it just got stuck there. It's good though because I really like it.
Wow. I am surprised at how negative the remarks are. I prefer traditional, classical and the old liturgical music myself, but respect their tribute to this song of worship. I wouldn't fly in a lot of traditional churches, but a lot of ELCA churches are doing away with the hymnal altogether. Sad.
someone in my congregation bought me a book called sing the feast, I think? I misplaced it long ago because I like the original and it took long enough for me to learn to play that on the organ let alone other versions, sounds nice though!
Don't imitate EVERYTHING Catholics do. IF you want to imitate the liturgy, that's great, but please don't imitate the banal music that has lost its soul. Catholics cannot sing because the music in most parishes doesn't lend itself worthy of being sung. Do you Lutherans want the same fate. So please continue being almost-Catholic, but please don't go down the path of bad music.
What I love about this song is the great combination of the musical instrumentation with the text. As we "join in the hymn of all creation" - the sounds of an orchestra, electric guitar, drums, handbells, and other sounds of the universe eventually join in! nice!
I agree completely...this kind of hippie garbage isn't worthy to offer to God, it's Jesus is my buddy, man-centered, contemporary rubbish made to please the 'me' generation. YUCK!
the original arrangement is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard... it would be very hard to improve upon... this definetly is not an improvement
I have seen also the Kyrie and I congratulate you on great stuff! And I can't say that this is not traditional liturgy as you do indeed speak of the parts of the mass, and the words of the liturgical songs are not changed. Are there also the Intercession of the Church (if you have it) and the Benedicamus?
However, without the communion the mass is not a mass...
It sounds awful, more like something from a trite TV commercial...Luther is probably in high rotation at this point in his coffin...can you imagine Martin Luther approving of this??
Thank you for your comment and interest in the liturgy. It is currently being reviewed by a publisher and hopefully will be available for purchase in the near future. I will try to post this information here when it becomes available.

@Carrie82157 I'm young, this is crap for lack of better words. This is the Feast should be majestic with organ imo.

This is a very sweet and gentle arrangement of these moving Biblical texts taken from Revelation. Thank you for "YouTubing" it!

I usually prefer the old liturgy myself, but there's something about this song and the Kyrie that I just love.

Blah - the original music is much much better. This version would never last in our Church. Too boring.

@enigmatik3n1
Given that "A Mighty Fortress"s tune came in part from a tavern tune, I think Luther might be all right.

This is disgraceful to the traditional liturgy! See, this is what modernism does to the holy church.
