Have you ever fought muay boraan or muay boran this fighting is ti rhe death of the opponent. Some of the moves is from taekwondo i think because one of the moves is a round house kick but you jump off the opponent's knee
@TehBuddaChris No there are no fights to the death anywhere in Thailand or Lao. There are also no muay boran fights anywhere. in Thailand's MMA crcuit, Dare, there are a lot of Muay Boran guys trying to capitalize on the small locks throws and standing grapples of Muay Boran, but they consistently lose to foreigners with ground fighting skill. None of the moves of Muay Boran are from Tae Kwan Do. Tae KWan Do is a modern art from Korea and had no influence on the development of muay Boran.
@TehBuddaChris Muay Boran is the traditional non sport form of Muay Thai. It's a system from Thailand and Tae Kwon Do is Korean. It has weapons and as said is more of a combat form. Im no expert on the subject but Muay Thai is just the hand to hand stuff Muay Boran covered wrestling as well as weapons. Regardless Thai martial arts are powerful and deadly.
If any people believe Thai, Khmer, or Laos created this kickboxing you are just retarded. This art has been around in India's culture and there's also many similar styles in China, in which both ethnicity have been on this planet way before any of the 3 above stated countries. Throughout the generations it has been passed and modified. In each is now unique and you can say has it's own techniques but it is still a known fact that it is influenced and perhaps created in India or China.
@LanXangLives If you want to say Thai invented Muay Thai, I completely understand. But it is not true that there are similar styles in India or China. I have trained for years in China, Thailand, Cambodia... The Chinese kick boxing art is san da and it is very different from Muay Thai and more modern. In India there is no traditional kick boxing art. There are martial arts forms, mostly with weapons, and there is wrestling. if you know of an Indian traditional kickboxing art, please tell me.
@brooklynmonk1 Even though the 3 countries do have some differences. I was referring to kickboxing or martial arts in general due to the fact that the Khmer ancestors are from India and Thai/Laos are from India or China. This kickboxing has been watered down into a humane sport which is Muay Thai but wasnt created there. If you look in temples and statues and pictures you will see it has incorporated weapons. The Lao and Thai have stories about executions with the art and a sword to decapitate.
@LanXangLives Khmer Culture is heavly influenced by the hindu-buddhist cultures from India but the Khmer people are NOT originally from India, That is a myth and a legend not taken seriously by any scholar. lol
@LanXangLives There is nothing unique about Muay Thai, Khmer boxing and Muay Lao. They are identical. they follow the same rules and these Lao fighters fight about 80% of their career fights in Thailand. Lots of Khmers also fight in Thailand, using Thai names. Nearly all of the fighters from Kho Kong boxing club in Cambodia fight and train in Thailand. There is no difference in the arts. if you know a specific, unique movement which exists in one of these countries, please tell me.
@brooklynmonk1 It will take more then a youtube comment to really prove my statement. But just for example in Pakse Laos, they call it muay pbum which incorporates some of muay Thai except they use a more crouching/wrestling approach. With grabs and locks and disabling an opponent by striking soft, weak areas. You may think it's the same because they have showcased only through Muay Thai sport rules and haven't fully represented their style but that's only because they can't. Gloves-takedowns.
@LanXangLives Do you have a contact for anyone, a teacher or fighter, from that art? I went to Lao looking for other arts, as did Kru Pedro and Derek Morris before me, and none of us found anything. But if you say this exists, I believe you. So, I would love to go document it and then the argument would be settled. Please let me know.
@ichibang15549 I never actually said that cambodia invented kickboxing i said, and you can check this fact, "The oldest depiction of Khmer martial art is on the walls of angkor wat and bayone temples." and those depictions are between 700-1000 years old. the oldest depictions of muay thai are only about 250 years old. BUT this doesnt prove that kickboxing was invented in cambodia and copied by thailand.
@golfza2008 Some Khmer people belive that boxing came from the khmer word bok, which means to fight. obviously, this is not true. the first documented use of the rword boxing was in a British newspaper from 1750, a hundred years before the French went to cambodia. Also, we know that the French brought English boxing to cambodia, and not the other way round.
@brooklynmonk1 Obviously, the Olympic Games are named after Mount Olympus, the home of the Greek Gods. The Olympics are several thousand years old, and started in Greece. This history is well documented and greek civilization predates Angkor by some 2,000 years. cambodia has only participated in the modern Olympic Games 6 or 7 times and has never won a medal.
@golfza2008 As for Tony Jaa, I written extensively on this subject, and frankly I am sick of re-explaining. The article appeared in Black Belt magazine plus numerous similar articles online. Tony Jaa was born and raised in Surin, Thaialnd. he is part of the Kuy ethnic minority. he and his family speak Khmer. he studied Muay Thai, Muay boran, tae kwan do, kung fu, and movie fighting. the only time he ever went to cambodia was when he was promoting Ang bak. he never studied Khmer martial art.
@golfza2008 actually, the oldest depiction of khmer boxing is on angkor wat which makes it nearly a thousand years old. the oldest records of muay thai are about 250 years old. i am not saying muay thai definitely came from cambodia, but i am saying most historians believe it is possible. and no, angkor wat is not a fake history.
@Chetah01 also we do Wear the same clothing but the words are similar because Thailand and Laos is close they speak same but some different words for example sabaidee means hello in Lao but in Thai its sawaidee and the letters are same but the ones who look the same is the Khmers but they are totally different letters
@Chetah01 if you think it the same its not we have different techiniqes im in MuayThai and im Laotian but when i did some MuayLao its different its only some similarities in our culture we do different basics and clinches
@TehBuddaChris Sorry but you are completely wrong. i didnt just do "some" muay thai or muay lao, or khmer boxing, i have done it for ten years. i live and train here. Muay lao is 100% identical to muay thai and the only places lao fighters fight are cambodia and thailand, so the rules have to be identical.
@brooklynmonk1 well they taught me different then from Muay Thai in America I honestly never trained in Thailand or Laos i learned Muay Lao and Muay Thai in America
Buakaw! Next its George Bounnavong! im a good practioner or muay thai. Im laos but i love watching buakaw fight. hes Thai. when i was young, 9 years old. i visit my grandmother in laos, but i was born in america. i go with my family. trying to get my little sister off the bottle. but we crossed the river to friendly neighboring Thais, rode on a motorcycle with my little bro, saw the banana trees, but laos doesn't have banana trees as high as those. i admit thailand is more beautiful, but laos
@Chetah01 I don't think it's that stupid. they don't really make and sell muay lao shorts. also, I live in Thailand, and pretty much everyone in the video trained and fought in Thailand, so we just wear our Muay Thai shorts. Just curious, were our crotches so interesting that it distracted you from watching the video?
@brooklynmonk1 If say like everyone in video trained and fought in Thailand. It's Muay Thai then. U're giving much credit to other boxing. Don't be a copycat especially the culture like South Korea. It distracted my eyes. if u wanna say Muay Lao. Wear something else then.
@Chetah01 You guys should all stop arguing Thai and Laos we are neighbors, just across the river from eachother. Yeah its a big river, but that shouldn't divide us. We are more related to than the other asians. But we should all treat eachother the same viet, cambodian or not Create our Brother hood.
@Chetah01 Thailand and Laos share a lot of history and culture. My ajarn who was from laos and taught this art as Muay Thai in Canada used to tell me that over half the thai population was Lao. he said there was not really much difference between Muay Thai and Muay Lao. He used to teach things like head butts for self defence, and I found out recently that head butts were still allowed in Muay Lao. BTW why do you think wearing Muay Thai shorts is stupid? Just curious.
@doragzed Definitely, we share a lot of history cuz Thailand and Laos used to be the same country. No offence with Lao ppl. But don't forget. Modern Muay Thai just invented mixed with other boxing styles example european boxing and still keep using the same techniques from Muay Boran. I think ur teacher got it wrong one thing about the history. Not Half of the population was lao. but yeah they ancestors were lao. Using Thai shorts to promote Muay laos isn't right to do .......
@doragzed like Koreans ppl that still using Japanese image to promote they Channels , TV programs with some purposes. They even tried to spin people's head by using Japanese name and culture on their channel for example Fuji tv but it's actually run by koreans. I know that Korea been under Japan awhile. This kind of behavior from Koreans can be found a lot on Youtube. Search it out. I'm a half Japanese-Thai. and it's distracting my eyes to see this behavior.
when i was taught by my yaw yan friend how to do the knee it is not just raising the knee but it should be raising it and at the same time you must "spear" it to the abdomen (or better the solar plexus) of the imaginary opponent. by the way i am that jason altatis guy who made a friend request some days ago which you accepted. i've been using ur videos here to get infos (and also try some and incorporate moves to my basic arsenal). these are helpful.
@cenerozzzz Sorry, I should have mentioned that. These videos were filmed in upside down world and relate only to that world. I should have been clearer on that point.
hey man i had a hard time finding a muay lao/thai gym in vientiane. where is this one? And how far is it from the city? I went to the sokxai gym but its closed down now.
@Vierathep actually the country's name is the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The short name is Lao. also in Lao language there are no terminal S sounds which means in Lao language, the company is called Lao. most people who live and work over here use the local name for the country, Lao.
celebrations plus I met quite a few people who had trained at the school in the past including local businesspeople and politicians (hence the tour of the hidden part of the museum) It has always been a regret that I didn't return and train with them, but there are plenty of years left so one day I hope to go back. There didn't seem to be anything that appeared to be 1000 per cent superior to other styles but just the idea of being the only westerner to do it appeals to my romantic nature lol
I am pretty sure that when I go back I will just be able to ask around a few businesses in town to get some directions to them. The teacher told me that they trained in the grounds of one of the monasteries around there so I reckon a day of searching would do the trick. As for their stuff coming from china that was either the impression I got or what I was told (too much of that rice whiskey isn't the best for the memory). There were approx 20 students doing the demo during the new year
Hi again, I actually have no idea where their school is. I played with them during the procession on Laos new year and got drunk with them afterwards (although the girls who were with them during the procession were shoving lao lao down my throat the whole time lol) They seemed to be pretty well known with their teacher getting alot of respect from everyone we met in town including the police and politicians who gave me a personal tour of the museum with the moon rocks etc.
Actually, not only does Muay Lao fight like that, this video was shot at the National Muay Lao training center. and the main guy in the video is the head coach for the Muay Lao national team. If you watch videos of the SEA Games, and there are many online, you will see this is exactly what Muay Lao is. Have you trained in Lao? If so, with whom and where?
I haven't trained in Laos but in 94 during Pii Mai Lao in Luang Prabang I did spar with a school that was doing demonstrations down the main street. They just called their stuff laos kung fu. It had kinda catlike footwork with alot of circular kinda blocks and finger strikes. I havent been able to find anything on the web about it. I was invited to go back and train with them but life kinda got in the way. From what I was told they only did public demos during new year.
@raff32 Lao Kung Fu and Muay Lao are different. Lao Kung Fu is called Ling Lom. and it comes from China, if you trace the history back far enough. where is this school? please tell me because i will be back in Lao next month.
@rAFiCoRe Thanks, but actually the country's name is the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The short name is Lao. also in Lao language there are no terminal S sounds which means in Lao language, the company is called Lao. most people who live and work over here use the local name for the country, Lao.
Ling Lom is part of pahuyuth (warrior system) of the ancient era (which includes weapons and other what not) Im leaning towards that it. so far my research into SEA boxing has led to nothing in finding somewhere that teaches Ling Lom which is leading me to think that it may just be a nickname for a style such as chaiya, ta sao, korat, and lopburi was used. But then again I could be wrong lol
@KensaiZen That makes sense. I have been trying for years, in asia, but can't find even a single person or reference to ling lom. what you are saying makes the most sense.

@YungLaosKid I am Antonio Graceffo, the first foreigner to "discover"Bokator. I wrote the original articles in Black Belt Magazine and worked on Fight quest and Human weapon episodes about Bokator, but the Fight Quest one didnt air.
@KensaiZen That makes sense. I have been trying for years, in asia, but can't find even a single person or reference to ling lom. what you are saying makes the most sense.
@Ganesh74 Just so YOU know, this is Muay Lao and it is the national sport of Lao. and not only is it exactly like this, but this is the National Muay Lao training center. Lai is a Tai word which means the same as Muay in Thai. So, when you say Lai Lao it just means Muay Lao. In Shan State I did a number of videos on Lai Tai. you can find them on youtube. Lai Tai is a derivation of Kung Fu brought from Tunnan when the Tai people migrated down and became Lao, Thai, and Shan.
@brooklynmonk1 The only original Lao martial art that has ever been written about is Ling Lum (Monkey wind). but no one has ever written an article or done a video on it. I have been in Lao and Isann looking for it. Kru Pedro and derek morris have also been there searching, and none of us have found it. if it ever existed, it must already be extinct. If you have an actual contact or know of some place to Ling lum or some other traditional Lao martial art, please let me know.
Pradel Serey ( Cambodian form of kickboxing ) ( Probably most ancient )
Muay Lao ( Laotian form of kickboxing ) ( Probably 2nd most ancient )
Muay Thai ( Thai variation of the Khmer Cambodian and Laotian kickboxing )
All three forms of kickboxing are excellent but the only one that gets world and internationally recognized money are muay thai and many other kickboxers have no problem with using the term muay thai, whether you are Laotian Khmer or Indian etc - as long as you make money!!
@MDIS khmer would never call it muaythai their full of themself and to many pride...some wont even wear muaythai shorts with thai words on it as for lao they suck they dont have many gym and all their fighter got ko in cambodia kao vs khmer fight wlel not all but some they still lost tho and muay lao did not come before muaythai because back then thai and lao were part of a group call tai if u go to shan state burma the tai yai call theirs muay lai tai muay lao is recent
I saw movies made by Thai actors that they prooved their muay Thai looks to be workable when applying the techniques. I have never seen any Laotian boxer in the ring.
@voicing1 all of these laotian fighters fight in thailand on a regular basis and the one in red shorts is a lumpini boxer. you probably haven't seen any laotian fighters because you dont watch the fights, dont follow the fights, or don't live and train in thailand. but there are a lot of lao living in Isann and they fight all of the time.
@Taywarit13 several of the guys in this Lao video are Lumpini fighters and the one in red shorts is actually a Lumpini Champion. inside of thailand probably half the lumpini fighters are ethnic khmer or lao from surin.
@brooklynmonk1 Not of alot of Lao in Issan, the whole Issan is Lao by blood. Most muay thai fighters are from Issan and plenty make it to the international circuit.
@LoogKaoNeo I agree, only difference, about 15% of isan fighters are Khmer, but yes, most are Lao and many make it to the top levels and isan is about the most famous boxing place in Thailand.
@LoogKaoNeo all isan isnt lao by blood their some sui khmer viet thai but the lao domiante others in isan because isan was a slave land use by the thai aftre they sacked laos in 1828
gidday mate! on the intro to your vid there is some kukri training going on, where would one go to learn to handle this fearsome blade? filipino systems? i think i heard somewhere the burmese developed a school teaching this ?? appreciate thoughts, curious. hows it going anyway? what you working on these days?
you are right. only the name is different. and these guys all fight in lumpini stadium in thailand. the lao seem to be ok with the name muay thai or muay lao but cambodia wants the name changed to khmer boxing
@jarrodyo your uncle is right. ive been doing some reading and the style we know today as Muay Thai was developed out of Muay Boran (literally "ancient boxing") and that was formed from different regional styles across all of indochina which would include present day Laos and Malaysia and Cambodia.
@Doug19752533 i practically said this in the video. its not news. muay boran was teh style which fought until 1925 when boxing gloves, ring timer and rules were standardized. the style of boran and later of sport muay thai were used in lao, cambodia, thailand and burma. in cambodia it is bradal serey. in burma lethwei but they have a lot less rules.
@brooklynmonk1 laos have thier own fighting ring in laos..i watch it on lao channel but its boring..no defense just offense they would get rape in the ring against international pro fighters.
@Taywarit13 I have no idea what you are talking about. these videos are filmed in Lao in a Lao ring and the art is Muay Lao, the same as Muay Thai and many of these Lao fighters are also Lumpini fighters. so, not sure what you are on about.
@Doug19752533 Concluding that if you can't go inside the ring, you are not existed. Would like to see Laotian boxer enter the internation ring. Some Japanese fighter in Pride actually suck to the very bone. They can't resist their opponents. Chinese made great films, but they never enter the ring. Fake? Maybe huh... Like the English, make believe of flying broom...hahahaha...
@voicing1 Lao boxers enter international ring all of the time. nearly all of their fights are in thailand because lao is too small to have a lot of domestic fights. yes, i agree with you, chinese made movies but there still arent any chinese international fighters. but one of the lao guys in my video is a Lumpini fighter.
I train muay thai and this is pretty much the same. This douche needs to throw his hips forward to do a proper knee....almost like a pelvic thrust LMAO
@brooklynmonk1 Ignore the ignorance, please post more Muay Lao Vids if you can! i promise you will get thousands of views. since ppl from laos want to learn more
i am hopefully going back to lao this year. so i will i can post more. i love the lao people and i hope i can visit all of lao communities in america when i go back home.
i sent crazyzec69 email to ask why he needed to insult me but he hasnt answered yet. i wish i could get all of these people in a ring in thailand or cambodia and just work my way through them.
@sonlove21 that's not true, most of the Lao fighters fight in Thailand and they sometimes win and sometimes loose. but no, the Lao dont win 100% of their fights. who told you something stupid like that and why did you believe it? the results of these fights are posted on line. you can check.
i have written you several times to ask about this comment but you havent responded. could you please explain why you called me douche? and i checked your channel, you dont seem to have a better video from when you were training in lao.
they are exactly the same. but cambodia, lao, and vietnam dont like the name muay thai because thai means thailand. so they call it muay lao in laos. in cambodia they call it braal serey.
@brooklynmonk1 thank you and please do visit. If you ever need a place to stay or run out of money. Buddhist temples(wat lao) are always there to help you. They can provide you shelter and some food. Respect. Thank you again!
Cool video mate, looks like your having fun! Just curious who is the artist rapping you got there? im Frenchie but respect les indochines, i had wondered if the burmese were the m most savage in the ring but the pradal serey and these boys are fairly dedicayed aye.
That's awesome. I was there 2 years ago training with those guys. I was there the same time they were training for the asian games. They wanted to take me to compete in thailand with them....i would have gotten killed if i did.
I was just missing my trip to Laos in Spring of 08 so I searched for Muay Lao, and I was so excited to see you trained in the same place I did with the same folks... thanks for documenting this so I'll always have something to re-live the memory
Muay thai, Muay Lao, and Bradal serey are exactly the same. yaw yan and san da are a bit different. Yaw yan (philippines) san da (china) they both use more straight kicks like in kung fu or karate. they use spinning back fist more and a lot less elbows. sna da kicks with the tip of the foot instead of with the shin. san da throws only from the waist. muay thai, muayy lao, bradal serey all throw from the head. yaw yan you can use almost any throw you want except you cant take him over your head
Oh thanks man, what about San Shou?A friend of mine told me that in San Shou there's a lot more Leg sweeps.
And do all of them have the same clinch?
Oh and one thing,I'm taking Muay Thai classes but our teacher doesn't give any importance to all for clinches, you've got anything for me to get my clinching better?
San schau and San Da are just two names for the same chinese kickboxing art. yes there is a lot more throwing, seeping in sna da san schau than in muay thai. in fact the wrestling part of it iss often practiced as a separate martial art. to learn the grappling you need to find a tecaher who works with the clinch.
if they are wearing a singlet then they are female. in thailand women couldnt even enter a ring till a few years ago for religious reasons. now some places have special rings for women, some dont allow women at all and some are coed. in lao, aparently, they allow women to train alongside men.
brooklynmonk1 i dont have a facebook.but u can go check out my friend.his name is sanman he is LAOS he got some video on youtube.and their alot of muay Lao in d state....
nakorn u r wrong.there is a L.A.O.S champ in muaythai-lao...it call esan all the champ come frm the laos bloodline..yodsianklan is esan..bakaw is esan...and there some more champ...i live in d state,laos,thailand...i noe my people..get it rite next time...and there a L.A.O champ in d state....arkansas,cali,texas,......

The kid in the red shorts helping brooklynmonk1. His name is Peta Ounparnya ,fighting name -Samingnoy sor, sokxay. He is the 2006 Kings cup champion of Thailand and 2007 Princes cup champion to.
I agree again. the best fighters come from Isan and the bulk of them are lao or Khmer etnics. the gym i train in in surin, all of the fighters are either lao or khmer ethnic. i think only the coach is thai ethnic. do you live in surin City? do you know adjan sok chai? i did a movie with him. hope to get it released soon.
Muay loa cant be weak, it is EXACTLY the same as muay thai, no difference in strength. you havent seen any muay lao fighters because there are only 38 professional boxers in lao. the only places they fight outside of the country are usually thailand and sometimes cambodia.
same as muaythai but the training is different thais train 8hrs a day 7 days a week. what i notice about the lao trainer are that. he doesnt use the tummy pad for your stomach thats a mistake one wrong move and he could be coughing if someone accidently hit his stomach.
never introduce or did but fail? there was never a lao champion. and do you even know who open the camp up in laos? its a thai man name keo he promotiing it with m150. the lao sea games fighter are all keo fighter. and who r u to say i am not lao? you know me? just because i dont like thier style of fighting i am not lao? i live in a free country call america i can like and not like whatever i want. u a communist? take that communist attitude somewhere eles.
i never said you werent lao. i asked if you ever lived there. and you didnt answer. also there is no camp in lao. it is the national boxing stadium which was not built by a thai man. it was built by the government. you dont have to like muay lao. i never said that.
i wasnt talking to you. i was talking to the lao wannbe on the bottom page. i didnt say thai man built the stadium..but he coach the lao fighter for the sea games in muay.
seriously learn how to used your youtube page...i cant help but notice everytime someone "replys" to someone on your page you automaticly think der replying to you then get all confused and mad kuz you think their talking bad about you but there talking to someone else..its kinda funny really. But if you get a comment in your youtube mailbox then the reply is to you, if its not in your mailbox but just shows up on the video then the replys is for someone else.
you didn't look like micheil Jackson but you did look like Mc hammer doing the running man,you look stiff hitting those pads that why when i hit the bag i record myself ,you suppose to lean back and hips out .also when your knee the bag on the last part your knee suppose to come like missile ,the round house is hard to do, i m having even problem with it
You are exactly right, i actually meant to say the running man by MCHammer but i dint know if everyone knew that. yeah, too stiff and gotta get the him into it. totally agree.
but tho for your age you look good in shape tho,and i envy you cause you learning from a kru and if i was you i be making notes and stuff to all the style
Have you ever fought muay boraan or muay boran this fighting is ti rhe death of the opponent. Some of the moves is from taekwondo i think because one of the moves is a round house kick but you jump off the opponent's knee
TehBuddaChris 3 months ago
@TehBuddaChris No there are no fights to the death anywhere in Thailand or Lao. There are also no muay boran fights anywhere. in Thailand's MMA crcuit, Dare, there are a lot of Muay Boran guys trying to capitalize on the small locks throws and standing grapples of Muay Boran, but they consistently lose to foreigners with ground fighting skill. None of the moves of Muay Boran are from Tae Kwan Do. Tae KWan Do is a modern art from Korea and had no influence on the development of muay Boran.

Please let me know.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 Ok, I can accept that.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 I never actually said that cambodia invented kickboxing i said, and you can check this fact, "The oldest depiction of Khmer martial art is on the walls of angkor wat and bayone temples." and those depictions are between 700-1000 years old. the oldest depictions of muay thai are only about 250 years old. BUT this doesnt prove that kickboxing was invented in cambodia and copied by thailand.

Cambodaian's Fake History on Internet
- Boxing came from Bokator.
- Cambodia create Olympic games.
- Tony jaa use bokator in his movie.
- MT came from cambodia.
Are you believe it ???
golfza2008 4 months ago
@golfza2008 Some Khmer people belive that boxing came from the khmer word bok, which means to fight. obviously, this is not true. the first documented use of the rword boxing was in a British newspaper from 1750, a hundred years before the French went to cambodia. Also, we know that the French brought English boxing to cambodia, and not the other way round.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Obviously, the Olympic Games are named after Mount Olympus, the home of the Greek Gods. The Olympics are several thousand years old, and started in Greece. This history is well documented and greek civilization predates Angkor by some 2,000 years. cambodia has only participated in the modern Olympic Games 6 or 7 times and has never won a medal.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@golfza2008 As for Tony Jaa, I written extensively on this subject, and frankly I am sick of re-explaining. The article appeared in Black Belt magazine plus numerous similar articles online. Tony Jaa was born and raised in Surin, Thaialnd. he is part of the Kuy ethnic minority. he and his family speak Khmer. he studied Muay Thai, Muay boran, tae kwan do, kung fu, and movie fighting. the only time he ever went to cambodia was when he was promoting Ang bak. he never studied Khmer martial art.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@roeuthkroch1
No. It's just cambodian propaganda. Cambodian hate thai and make fake history on internet for discredit all abount thailand.
in fact muaythai is originate by thai people sure. and cambodian fighter champions can compare muaythai is just c class.
golfza2008 4 months ago
@golfza2008 actually, the oldest depiction of khmer boxing is on angkor wat which makes it nearly a thousand years old. the oldest records of muay thai are about 250 years old. i am not saying muay thai definitely came from cambodia, but i am saying most historians believe it is possible. and no, angkor wat is not a fake history.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1
I'm not saying about angkor wat is a fake history.
But I'm pretty sure for MT copy from cambodian is a fake.
The History of angkor wat doesn't mean The History of Cambodian fighting style.
in fact to day cambodian fighter must to go to thailand for training MT .

@Chetah01 also we do Wear the same clothing but the words are similar because Thailand and Laos is close they speak same but some different words for example sabaidee means hello in Lao but in Thai its sawaidee and the letters are same but the ones who look the same is the Khmers but they are totally different letters
TehBuddaChris 4 months ago
@Chetah01 if you think it the same its not we have different techiniqes im in MuayThai and im Laotian but when i did some MuayLao its different its only some similarities in our culture we do different basics and clinches
TehBuddaChris 4 months ago
@TehBuddaChris Sorry but you are completely wrong. i didnt just do "some" muay thai or muay lao, or khmer boxing, i have done it for ten years. i live and train here. Muay lao is 100% identical to muay thai and the only places lao fighters fight are cambodia and thailand, so the rules have to be identical.

@Chetah01 I don't think it's that stupid. they don't really make and sell muay lao shorts. also, I live in Thailand, and pretty much everyone in the video trained and fought in Thailand, so we just wear our Muay Thai shorts.
Chetah01 5 months ago
@Chetah01 You guys should all stop arguing Thai and Laos we are neighbors, just across the river from eachother. Yeah its a big river, but that shouldn't divide us. We are more related to than the other asians. But we should all treat eachother the same viet, cambodian or not Create our Brother hood.
MsGeorgeAB 5 months ago
@Chetah01 Thailand and Laos share a lot of history and culture. My ajarn who was from laos and taught this art as Muay Thai in Canada used to tell me that over half the thai population was Lao. he said there was not really much difference between Muay Thai and Muay Lao. He used to teach things like head butts for self defence, and I found out recently that head butts were still allowed in Muay Lao. BTW why do you think wearing Muay Thai shorts is stupid? Just curious.
doragzed 3 weeks ago
@doragzed Definitely, we share a lot of history cuz Thailand and Laos used to be the same country. No offence with Lao ppl. But don't forget. Modern Muay Thai just invented mixed with other boxing styles example european boxing and still keep using the same techniques from Muay Boran. I think ur teacher got it wrong one thing about the history. Not Half of the population was lao. but yeah they ancestors were lao. Using Thai shorts to promote Muay laos isn't right to do .......
Chetah01 3 weeks ago
@doragzed like Koreans ppl that still using Japanese image to promote they Channels , TV programs with some purposes. They even tried to spin people's head by using Japanese name and culture on their channel for example Fuji tv but it's actually run by koreans. I know that Korea been under Japan awhile. This kind of behavior from Koreans can be found a lot on Youtube. Search it out. I'm a half Japanese-Thai. and it's distracting my eyes to see this behavior.

celebrations plus I met quite a few people who had trained at the school in the past including local businesspeople and politicians (hence the tour of the hidden part of the museum) It has always been a regret that I didn't return and train with them, but there are plenty of years left so one day I hope to go back. There didn't seem to be anything that appeared to be 1000 per cent superior to other styles but just the idea of being the only westerner to do it appeals to my romantic nature lol
raff32 10 months ago
I am pretty sure that when I go back I will just be able to ask around a few businesses in town to get some directions to them. The teacher told me that they trained in the grounds of one of the monasteries around there so I reckon a day of searching would do the trick. As for their stuff coming from china that was either the impression I got or what I was told (too much of that rice whiskey isn't the best for the memory). There were approx 20 students doing the demo during the new year
raff32 10 months ago
Hi again, I actually have no idea where their school is. I played with them during the procession on Laos new year and got drunk with them afterwards (although the girls who were with them during the procession were shoving lao lao down my throat the whole time lol) They seemed to be pretty well known with their teacher getting alot of respect from everyone we met in town including the police and politicians who gave me a personal tour of the museum with the moon rocks etc.

muay Lao don't fight like that. It's more like Kung fu
lanxang817 11 months ago

Actually, not only does Muay Lao fight like that, this video was shot at the National Muay Lao training center. and the main guy in the video is the head coach for the Muay Lao national team. If you watch videos of the SEA Games, and there are many online, you will see this is exactly what Muay Lao is. Have you trained in Lao? If so, with whom and where?
brooklynmonk1 11 months ago
@brooklynmonk1
From what I was told they only did public demos during new year.
raff32 11 months ago

HI Brooklynmonk1
i like your videos.
just so to let you know though, Laos martial art is call Lai Lao and it is NOT like this (which is a bad version of Muay THai).
Best regards
Ganesh74 1 year ago
@Ganesh74 Just so YOU know, this is Muay Lao and it is the national sport of Lao. and not only is it exactly like this, but this is the National Muay Lao training center. Lai is a Tai word which means the same as Muay in Thai. So, when you say Lai Lao it just means Muay Lao. In Shan State I did a number of videos on Lai Tai. you can find them on youtube. Lai Tai is a derivation of Kung Fu brought from Tunnan when the Tai people migrated down and became Lao, Thai, and Shan.
brooklynmonk1 1 year ago

All three forms of kickboxing are excellent but the only one that gets world and internationally recognized money are muay thai and many other kickboxers have no problem with using the term muay thai, whether you are Laotian Khmer or Indian etc - as long as you make money!!

im guessing it just the country name but my uncle is 1/2 thai and 1/2 Laotian, he says theirs some moves that muay lao doesnt have
jarrodyo 1 year ago
@jarrodyo your uncle is right. ive been doing some reading and the style we know today as Muay Thai was developed out of Muay Boran (literally "ancient boxing") and that was formed from different regional styles across all of indochina which would include present day Laos and Malaysia and Cambodia.
Doug19752533 1 year ago
@Doug19752533 i practically said this in the video. its not news. muay boran was teh style which fought until 1925 when boxing gloves, ring timer and rules were standardized. the style of boran and later of sport muay thai were used in lao, cambodia, thailand and burma. in cambodia it is bradal serey. in burma lethwei but they have a lot less rules.

Anyone knows the main difference between Muay Thai,Muay Lao and the other forms?
tearo 2 years ago
Muay thai, Muay Lao, and Bradal serey are exactly the same. yaw yan and san da are a bit different. Yaw yan (philippines) san da (china) they both use more straight kicks like in kung fu or karate. they use spinning back fist more and a lot less elbows. sna da kicks with the tip of the foot instead of with the shin. san da throws only from the waist. muay thai, muayy lao, bradal serey all throw from the head. yaw yan you can use almost any throw you want except you cant take him over your head
brooklynmonk1 2 years ago
Oh thanks man, what about San Shou?A friend of mine told me that in San Shou there's a lot more Leg sweeps.
And do all of them have the same clinch?
Oh and one thing,I'm taking Muay Thai classes but our teacher doesn't give any importance to all for clinches, you've got anything for me to get my clinching better?
tearo 2 years ago
San schau and San Da are just two names for the same chinese kickboxing art. yes there is a lot more throwing, seeping in sna da san schau than in muay thai. in fact the wrestling part of it iss often practiced as a separate martial art. to learn the grappling you need to find a tecaher who works with the clinch.
brooklynmonk1 2 years ago
Thanks for the info again..
To be honest I like more grappling than striking!
I am fascinated by Aikido and russian Sambo and have plans to practice them both in the future..
The Grappling aspect of San Da/San Schau,is it anything like Shuai Jiao?Because I saw that and I liked it!
tearo 2 years ago
teh grappling component of san da san schau is swei jao, exactly the same but swei jao is sometimes practiced as a separate sport.

In your video , the person behind you in the red color singlet , is that a boy or a girl ?

if they are wearing a singlet then they are female. in thailand women couldnt even enter a ring till a few years ago for religious reasons. now some places have special rings for women, some dont allow women at all and some are coed. in lao, aparently, they allow women to train alongside men.

Im Thai from the Isaan province, which
we are Lao ethnics. I can vouch that Muay
Lao is not weak. I tell you why , the best
fighters in Thailand are Isaan. Ive seen Lao fighters come over to my town and demolish our top fighters who have fought
in Lumpuinee. Nakorn24 bro if Lao fighters are beating Thais thats all that counts. I agree with brooklynmonk1 Muay
Thai and Muay Lao is the same.
Thongsai 3 years ago
I agree again. the best fighters come from Isan and the bulk of them are lao or Khmer etnics. the gym i train in in surin, all of the fighters are either lao or khmer ethnic. i think only the coach is thai ethnic. do you live in surin City? do you know adjan sok chai? i did a movie with him. hope to get it released soon.
brooklynmonk1 3 years ago
i am lao but i think muay lao is weak. i havent seen any lao fighter beat any top fighter yet...and i never heard of muay lao until now.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
Muay loa cant be weak, it is EXACTLY the same as muay thai, no difference in strength. you havent seen any muay lao fighters because there are only 38 professional boxers in lao. the only places they fight outside of the country are usually thailand and sometimes cambodia.
brooklynmonk1 3 years ago
same as muaythai but the training is different thais train 8hrs a day 7 days a week. what i notice about the lao trainer are that. he doesnt use the tummy pad for your stomach thats a mistake one wrong move and he could be coughing if someone accidently hit his stomach.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
you aint lao if you haven't heard of muay lao been in lao ever since but never introduce to westerner
bukjone500 3 years ago
yeah, they fight pretty much every weekend in viantiane. have you lived or trained in lao?
brooklynmonk1 3 years ago
never introduce or did but fail? there was never a lao champion. and do you even know who open the camp up in laos? its a thai man name keo he promotiing it with m150. the lao sea games fighter are all keo fighter. and who r u to say i am not lao? you know me? just because i dont like thier style of fighting i am not lao? i live in a free country call america i can like and not like whatever i want. u a communist? take that communist attitude somewhere eles.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
i never said you werent lao. i asked if you ever lived there. and you didnt answer. also there is no camp in lao. it is the national boxing stadium which was not built by a thai man. it was built by the government. you dont have to like muay lao. i never said that.
brooklynmonk1 3 years ago
i wasnt talking to you. i was talking to the lao wannbe on the bottom page. i didnt say thai man built the stadium..but he coach the lao fighter for the sea games in muay.
Nakorn24 3 years ago
Nakorn24 - I see this guy everywhere talking crap. Can't tell if he's thai or lao. Unsuprisingly he's account is deleated.

seriously learn how to used your youtube page...i cant help but notice everytime someone "replys" to someone on your page you automaticly think der replying to you then get all confused and mad kuz you think their talking bad about you but there talking to someone else..its kinda funny really. But if you get a comment in your youtube mailbox then the reply is to you, if its not in your mailbox but just shows up on the video then the replys is for someone else.

Thank you for the video brooklynmonk1!
When is the second part of the Muay Lao
going to be up? Watching the video I can tell the Muay Lao ajarn is a very good teacher. The camp is solid in the clinch and grappling technique.

you didn't look like micheil Jackson but you did look like Mc hammer doing the running man,you look stiff hitting those pads that why when i hit the bag i record myself ,you suppose to lean back and hips out .also when your knee the bag on the last part your knee suppose to come like missile ,the round house is hard to do, i m having even problem with it
hotpopcorncake 3 years ago
