lol no shoot for like 115 degrees. its perfect because its right in the middle of 110 and 120 so yea. plus Doug Dix who is the owner of Deer Fern Farms also does that sand his uros love it. check out his website.
I am thinking of buying a saharan. A juvenile red phase. i have a 75 gallon for starters. is that ok? i wanted to ask also in your opinion, do you handle them? My beardie is a lap dog
i wouldnt go for 140 in a Set up they might get that kinda temp in wild at times but i bet they are prob sat in their borrows at around mid-day or when sun is at its hottest . Go for 120 - 130 only at basking spot and with the hotter end of viv keep above 100 during day and let the cooler end be more around 80 .
my uro sara jane hates it when i watch her eat. when she notices me, she drops her lettuce and hides in her house! Then she looks at me as if to say "nah nah nah!"
your hotter end sounds good , with a longer viv say around 48x2x2 you will prob be able to get your cooler end down abit easier i would say around the 80's would be better .
XD this reminds me of my own uro (one of them, anyway). He likes to chomp into several pieces of lettuce/greens at once and then attempt to chew it. Six years old and he still hasn't learned.....
@kylestlcards Well i got mine online for a GREAT deal but he turned out to be sick and a runt but i got him for 35$ and 40$ shipping, they are normally about 100 dollars maybe 20$ less than that. And my setup was about 150$ inluding cage and lights the minimum for a single adult is 4x1x1 cage
my beardy did that, he had a parisite, no lizard should go into shut down untill after 1 yr of age, check ur UV lights, they can stop giving off UV without burnning out, and take him to the vet, and ask them to run a culture on his fecies, just in case :)
Yeah pretty much all lettuce just takes up space in their bellies. Its like a human eating celery, takes more calories to digest it then you get from it. I feed mine bok choy and its got all the good nutrients.
awsome i have a mali uromatryx .. which i just got a week ago.. awsome pets real easy to care of.. plz send me some messages and tips on takin care of my uromatryx

nutrition powder just isn't as healthy as eating a proper variety of greens. She is super cute! my baby loves to climb too, although I don't put anyting more than a few inches high in her cage. The other day she managed to climb 5 feet up the side of bookshelf(its only 1.5 inches away from the wall)
not trying 2 be mean, but she shouldnt be eating lettuce, it has no nutrition and it needs 2 be smaller. also, u shouldnt have a climbing thing, uros cant climb {{no matter how good they think they r}} their center of balance is off so they fall and hurt themselves
The leaves are coated in nutrition powder to supliment any vitamins that she isnt getting. She is also fed on Live foods and Dandelion Leaves which i grow in my garden, her favourite. As for climbing ive had her for 3 yrs and not once has she fell off/over nething, she loves to climb up her log under the basking bulb and sit for a while absorbing the heat :]
Hi sorry for the VERY late delay, i havnt been on here in aggges. Shes a Acanthinurus and for beginners yes they are very suitable. She maily eats continental Lettuces which is coated in a Vitamin and Calcium powder, i buy her live food every few weeks as she LOVES them :]. The females tend to be smaller than the males, mine is a female. Ive seen the same species and mine but a male, and he was gigantic i was amazed!!!
heyy i wanted a lizard that dont have to eat living things. i got told this would be the lizard for me...do you think?
are they friendly or are they like them boring ones that hide all day and only come out at night?
are they hard to look after and how big do they get? how often do you hav to feed them and what do you feed yours? and wot species of Uro is this? its well cute!! sorry about all the questions :P
:) I love to watch 'em eat. :) I love how you have your tank set up. Mine is pretty bare...I wanted to put some fake plants in there but worried if they were safe - are they? I have no idea. Yours has such a cute belly!!! Is it a boy?
hello there...ye my uro is a female! about a foot long now! [=. With the fake plants im pretty sure that they are safe to put in, i hav some to cover up my UV tubes wires and shes had no problem wiv them. Also when i got her, the previous tank she was in also used fake plants, and the shop owner was very gd at helping me with her...so i guess yes they are safe [=. hope it helps!

Im thinking of trying to get a uromastyx and do u think a 20 gallon long with be big enought? or should i get a new tank?
ADIOfan8 2 years ago
no you need something AT LEAST 4 foot by two foot.
uros need at least 140 degrees on one side and 80 degrees on the other and you can't do that with a 20 gallon tank
a 20 gallon tank would kill the uromastyx slowly and painfully.
TACGNOLTACGNOL 2 years ago
140 degrees is too hot. shoot for around 120-125

your correct except the tank shouldnt be at least 140 it should be that or lower ... 120- 135 is the av. range and thats on the basking spot

mmamaster971 4 years ago
You shouldnt give them lettuce. Give them dark greens like kale. Lettuce doesnt have any nutritional value.
wallsk8r 4 years ago
it actually looks like romaine lettuce which is nutritious unlike iceberg lettuce
mattsass3 4 years ago
Are you sure romaine lettuce is nutritious(spelling?)?
From what i've hearded all lettuce has no nutrition.
