Freakwater were once maybe the first artists creating what came to be alt.country. Nobody ever did it better --- not Uncle Tupelo, not Wilco, not even BR549. Authentic as the Carter Family, and Freakwater, they got a lot more to say, at least to me.
Freakwater took the stage and before they said hello or anything, one of the women got on the mic and said, "I just want you to know how much I hate our President." Huh? Did she think anybody cared what she thought? Then we had to endure their show while waiting for what we actually paid for.
still have a Freakwater 4 track live tape from the board at The Starry Plough in Berkeley. CA. Curse my name for never getting it on computer or on torrent. Great group, great tunes, that night in 1997 or 8 they were clearly not happy with their set but it was amazing regardless. "Shoulda moved to nyc......" I never was that cool either. Great news on the upcoming recordings. I won't forget.
I ran in to Cathy at the grocery store and totally fan geeked on her.
According to her, Freakwater is not over and there will be another album one day.
Check out her solo album - it's also really good.
Though she wasn't as interested in talking to a stranger (stalker) when I asked if it was supposed to be the next Freakwater album and she just recorded it herself.
She totally did - run out and buy it - err find an independent record store that will order it for you.
Open minds and an admiration of good complex works yet simple things in life, any SMART person would appreciate this! I love it for what has been lost to the world! GOOD JOB!
I done drunk the Freakwater. Miss the band, the girls, since leaving Chicago for East Tennessee. Glad to find this here, just great. --Bob, ex-Farmageddon guitarist (from the band account).
Saw them open for She & Him in Atlanta. Freakwater had to be the sleepiest groaner of an act I've ever witnessed. One of them commented "it sure is quiet" and I thought "well I wonder why." The lobby was packed with people who endured the first two songs and had to get away from it.
Great, great band. Broke up, I think. I got to see em in New Orleans about 10 years back, talked w em a bit, and they played my request, a John Anderson song called Wild and Blue. Very nice gals. And i WAS always partial to the blonde, Janet Beveridge Bean.
Wow. Weird to see David Gay again. I babysat his kids and dated his friend Lance. He used to drive a hearse with a siren on top. Met Catherine only once in 1995 at some bar in Chicago. The whole album is still good.

@jttxyz I watched a Freakwater video and saw your comment and thought "why does this person think anyone cares about this dumb comment?"

Good tune, Incredibly stupid thing to say to an audience you're about to perform for.

Sounds like there's no Freakwater in 2010. I'm sure they had a good time while it lasted.

I agree. If all country was like this I would listen to it all the time. Fortunately freakwater has enough music to pick up the slack.
This band deserves more respect out there in country music land
