  • why is it bad to have that yellowish coating on the lens? shouldn't it be there? is it forming by time? can anyone show me examples of pix taking with and without that yellowish layer? thx!

  • @fulesmackofule It's not a coating, it's in the glass, mostly in the rear lens. And it is Thorium, not Barium, Uranium or anything else.

But today you don't care for the yellowish tint, because you can remove it easily with Photoshop, as the video demonstrates.

  • Did you Photoshop the lens to show more (or less) yellowing? The before/after photo shows no sign of hand or lens movement, just a difference in lens color.

  • Great Tips, Thanks you very much sir.

  • wtf??? they used uranium to make a lens? thats wild

  • All that thorium

  • Does anyone know which bulbs you can use? Sun is never shining where i live ;)

  • About a year ago, I was able to remove almost all hints of yellow from a radioactive 50mm f/1.4 S-M-C takumar using exposure to a 15-watt UV light for 8 days.
