I am amazed.... 1. Because it took me about 3 minutes to realize that Mr. Adams was ,once again, screwing with mind and 2. Once I realized his goof .. I couldn't understand it anymore.
Summary: aye-aye lemur of Madagascar (Madagascar broke out from Gondwana). Venomous snakes and spiders. Dr. Struan Keith Sutherland of Melbourne. Komodo dragon of Indonesia. This was very informative, I might even pick up that hitchhiker book of his. Really nice approach, not preachy at all like a lot of far left nutters. THis man is highly intelligent, and really brings his point across well. :)
I'll leave you all alone now to enjoy Mr. Adams. You are free to your views. But what I am saying is correct. Compare to German or Russian literature. @uberhandle You are right that his writing is not on par with other writings, but that does not make him any less intelligent or his writing any less enjoyable. Of course people like Chekhov and Dostoevsky were better writers than Douglas Adams, I don't think anyone disputes that. Most writers cannot write like Milton but that does not make them less relevant. Jonathan Swift wrote at Adams' level and he is much more than a footnote.
@uberhandle, there's a difference between disliking someone's work and brutally bashing it, and I think the line has been sufficiently crossed. First question by a loony Marxist who assumes that things like gas are too cheap and do not reflect its true cost. The fool does not realize that its capitalism that keeps things at their true cost. It's Marxism that does not know how to value anything, because when everyone owns everything, then no one owns anything, and nothing has value.
what are you talking about? This is nothing about capitalism, communism, Marxism, he's talking about the price of gas not reflecting its true cost because it REALLY DOESN'T. When you buy your gas you are probably paying for the cost of its extraction, refinement, and, cost of transportation. What you are not paying for is the economic damage that occurs when it causes acid rain. You are not paying for the loss of habitat that the oil companies destroyed getting you that gas.
Here might be something you might understand. Chevron is being sued for like 100 billion dollars by Indigenous peoples in Ecuador for fucking up their village. It isn't until legal systems makes these guys pay for what they do to the planet that the true price of gas is realized. That is the true price of gas that this loony Marxist is talking about.
Douglas was not only a great writer, he was an outstanding speaker. There are very few things (movies included) where I have been gripped for almost 1.5hrs. And probably the most informative 1.5 hrs I have sat thru. It's a tragic shame that he died so young. I recently re-watched the original BBC series of THHGTTG and about 2 mins after it ended I found myself here again.
Life is a cruel fucking joke. As soon as you get used to the idea of being alive, you die. I hate the fact that I was ever born. Im resentful towards my parents for being here. I never wanted to have to go through this terrible practical joke of all of a sudden out of nowhere, popping up in this world and being alive ..... and then before you know it, time flies and youre dead the next moment, and knowing all along that its coming. Its NOT COOL to be forced to go thru this.
@emilshere You dont like life?? Wierd... Im not trying to be mean or something dude but if you realy dont like your life then why not go and kill yourself?? Its that simple!!! Get it????
@emilshere are you sure? are you some kind of life-death traveller, capable of will ever after death? show me how you do it, because i'll be pleased to learn!
Of course, now we know that the Yangtze River Dolphin is extinct as we know it... I remember I had the Wide World of Animals CD as a kid, and I would watch the River Dolphin and Anaconda videos over and over... haha. You will be missed, Mr. Adams, just as much as any of the species on our precious Earth.
THIS is why i don't buy into creationism. Sure it takes an hour and a half to get to the point, but still faster and FAR more informative than reading the bible.
Do you really think he would have bothered to learn your language?
Oddly enough, not, you funny little blank-faced thing.
Don't forget that tea was once an endangered species ; )
That's why they sent in the gunboats.
Look, wherever people speak English, charm, gin and flattery will work on the survivors.
Harvest humor from the misunderstandings, and watch while he flatters you by insulting three separate cultures while speaking in English and saying "we".
@voidz I also think that there were more important questions to be put, like more to the subject, but he did have answers to give, even to those questions, like the thing with the towel and he made a good point about digital watches :)
I love when he talks about food in his books it always makes me hungry (Best part of mostly harmless was the Sand witch parts) If he was alive right now I hope he would have had a fine food review show on the discovery channel "Douglas Adams tells us how to dine and dash at the worlds most expensive restaurants and where donuts come from as we tour " Douglas Adams Guide to Earth dining"
Such truth conveyed with such subtlety! What appear as anecdotes about animals are parables on human nature. This man was a giant, in stature and in intellect.
lets say hypothetically if tomorrow we discover the partical that is dark matter and prove it and some how we prove what is driving dark energy and prove it, what do we do the day after tomorrow ?
This is a person that I would like to have been able to sit down with and have a talk with over a few beers. Unfortunately this will never happen. However I can still imagine what that would be like and say;
"So long and thanks fort all the fish"
(because if a topic is "fishy ", you know what you better look for)
[And the reason that there are 42 rules of cricket is just a coincidence, right?]
Happy 42 Day! As I enjoy my cup of tea today, with the cream added before the water so that the milk does not scald, I wonder if L. Ron Hubbard could create his own religion, then why couldn't Mr. Adams? C'est La Vie. So Long, Douglas, and thanks for all the brilliance
Happy 42 Day! As I enjoy my cup of tea today, with the cream added before the water so that the milk does not scald, I wonder if L. Ron Hubbard can create his own religion, then why can't Mr. Adams?

@JesusKrispies Not only that, but he was good, had too much of a conscience to go around starting religions and things. You only do that if you're really keen on exploiting the gullible.
@mittROMNEY666 Some YouTube videos actually require a attention span of more then half a second, and an IQ higher then that of a stone, to understand.
YouTube should def put up a warning so people like you can just go about their day in blissful ignorance.

@RayWilliamJohnston Holy crap. It's Ray William Johnston. Watching an hour-and-a-half-long Douglas Adams video. My mind has been blown.

@OrderLogicMachine who the fuck is ray william johnston?
ReverendNillerz 11 months ago
@ReverendNillerz I had him confused for RayWilliamJohnson, a YouTuber of some note. I missed the 't'.
OrderLogicMachine 11 months ago
@OrderLogicMachine ...Okay, you spelled his name wrong, but still, who the fuck is RayWilliamJohnson then?
ReverendNillerz 11 months ago
@ReverendNillerz Dude, just search for that name. He's a guy who makes videos. What do you want?
OrderLogicMachine 11 months ago
@OrderLogicMachine what do you mean what do I want? Didn't you get the fucking memo from my fucking question?
ReverendNillerz 11 months ago

God the questions at the end were retarded... sadly...
voidz 1 year ago
@voidz I also think that there were more important questions to be put, like more to the subject, but he did have answers to give, even to those questions, like the thing with the towel and he made a good point about digital watches :)

I love when he talks about food in his books it always makes me hungry (Best part of mostly harmless was the Sand witch parts) If he was alive right now I hope he would have had a fine food review show on the discovery channel "Douglas Adams tells us how to dine and dash at the worlds most expensive restaurants and where donuts come from as we tour " Douglas Adams Guide to Earth dining"

Rest in peace, Douglas. You have gone much to soon. In Mind we remain close until the end of the universe.

7orqu3 1 year ago
@7orqu3 We use it to make weapons, destroy human kind and after that... well... We become dark matter? :P

This is a person that I would like to have been able to sit down with and have a talk with over a few beers. Unfortunately this will never happen. However I can still imagine what that would be like and say;

@sententioetexcrucior Presumably because Mr. Adams was an atheist.
JesusKrispies 1 year ago
@JesusKrispies Not only that, but he was good, had too much of a conscience to go around starting religions and things. You only do that if you're really keen on exploiting the gullible.

mittROMNEY666 1 year ago
@mittROMNEY666 Some YouTube videos actually require a attention span of more then half a second, and an IQ higher then that of a stone, to understand.
YouTube should def put up a warning so people like you can just go about their day in blissful ignorance.

How is the book called he is reading from?
nikodormius 1 year ago
@nikodormius Many things are taken from his own book: Last Chance to See (ISBN 0-330-32002-5)
I havent watched the whole thing, if he actually literally reads from a book I might be wrong.
