i thought this was an interesting album. i had it playing, and my friend was in the bathroom he came out , and had the most disgusted look on his face when he heard it playing, he was legit disgusted by the music. im not too sure what causes music to make yeah feel like that, but it was weird. because i enjoy this music
@elmerfudd4516 The message is striving for modesty and the vacancy of conceit. The fox compliments the crow and then asks him to sing. In an attempt to show-off, he loses the cookie he stole and the fox gets it, just so the crow could embrace his sense of self. It's an anti-ego based song.
clear references to the bible as i listen i hear more in there too: the equivalent of prophecies will cease (_not quite happy with some of the "prophetic" utterances that hold sway on the American political scene). A baker from the outskirts of his town, made his life peddling sweets on a ragged cart he dragged around. Omg... there's such whimsy to this song that makes me love this song sooo much.
Oh, and also, I believe it's "The baker shouted threats by canzonette to curse the crafty bird" I see you just put a question mark between by and to curse. =)
So I don't get the ending, does the crow drop the cookie and the fox get's it, which makes the crow go off all melodramatic? Whatever, this song blew my mind.
yeah I know, when I posted this it was before the album was released, so no one knew the actual lyrics and had to go by what they heard, which caused wrong lyrics like the one you posted above.
Nice comparison. They are both great story tellers have you heard "a glass can only spill what it contains" or "january 1979" they're my favorites or "torches together" they remind me a lot of like fugazi or something.
The last verse seems to be a fantasy of the crow(?), a vision of paradise. Paradise=Heaven, where all division cease to be, all will bend the knee. Get it?
It's more likely from Bawa Muhaiyaddeen's story named "The fox the crow and the cookie" which is much like Aesops fable. But his parents sat with Bawa Muhaiyaddeen.
I realise this, but the last verse the singer is well, on drugs (please correct if I'm wrong) and I was wondering the purpose of it. For example was the singer easily flattered? And due to this his life (The food) was lost and he turned to drugs. I don't its a good idea.....
Yes, I understand that the first 6 Verses are about a Children's Fable. I'm not saying it's not but the last verse mentions cocaine and I was wondering why.
Hmm I wonder if I understood the story correctly..
There is a Crow who steals some snacks from a baker.
The Crow goes up into his nest, with the snacks in his mouth.
The Fox speaks with the Crow to ask him to share, but the Crow refuses.
So the Fox flatters the Crow, and asks him to sing him a song, which causes the snacks to drop from the Crow's beak, and onto the ground, so the Fox can eat.
Is there some kind of deep meaning I am missing to the story or something?
@ first when listening to this song i thought it was a random/goofy song like one of relient k's songs until i read the comments about it being about a parable. i like the different style of this band.

Yeah... sigh... I was so excited for the release of this album only to be moderately disapointed. By combining a new folk style with the great sound of old they have compromised both! I would have been fine with them doing a folk album but I don't like the idea of this being the new sound from one of my favorite artists. Oh well, at least they put out three great ones before this that we can still enjoy.
it's a story told by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, a Sufi from Sri Lanka. So i think you are probably right about that considering both his parents are converts to Sufiism.

emnity33, it's a song made out of one of Aesop's Fables. It's point is, not to fall for flattery, or pride goes before a fall.
