One thing i've learned from driving during winter is never go without a shovel. It may sound stupid but a shovel will get you out of trouble no matter if it's snow or ice.

@yaskulka i guess i said so because here in Europe winters are usually not very strong and people think the snow plows always clear the way on time but it's wrong, especially on smaller roads or parking lots. Even though we don't get a lot of snow, it still gets slippery sometimes and it's not hard to find yourself stuck. In my opinion it's always better to be "too much" prepared than not prepared at all but i've noticed people here don't think so.
