well, we shouldn't be looking for the government to take care of us. Like Thomas Jefferson and B. Teenagers are not very good forethinkers or planners and they have little ability to process cause and effect
@AndrewACE24 I am a teenager, and I'm in college at 17. Drugs help some people come up with great ideas. The person who discovered the benzene ring structure was on LSD at the time. Just as well, what gives you the right to tell me or anyone else what they are able to put into their body?
Marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States. It is a dry, shredded green and brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves derived from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. The main active chemical in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol; THC for short
As a more concentrated, resinous form it is called hashish, and as a sticky black liquid, hash oil.* Marijuana smoke has a pungent and distinctive, usually sweet-and-sour odor
Marijuana is usually smoked as a cigarette (joint) or in a pipe. It is also smoked in blunts, which are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana. Since the blunt retains the tobacco leaf used to wrap the cigar, this mode of delivery combines marijuana's active ingredients with nicotine and other harmful chemicals. Marijuana can also be mixed in food or brewed as a tea.
Scientists have learned a great deal about how THC acts in the brain to produce its many effects. When someone smokes marijuana, THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body
THC acts upon specific sites in the brain, called cannabinoid receptors, kicking off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the high that users experience when they smoke marijuana. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors; others have few or none. The highest density of cannabinoid receptors are found in parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thoughts, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement
Not surprisingly, marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty in thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that marijuanas adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.2 As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time
Research on the long-term effects of marijuana abuse indicates some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term abuse of other major drugs. For example, cannabinoid withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system3 and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine.4 Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse
Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which make it difficult to quit. These withdrawal symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 23 days, and subside within 1 or 2 weeks following drug cessation.
Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite its known harmful effects upon social functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities.
the strongest evidence links marijuana use and schizophrenia and/or related disorders.6 High doses of marijuana can produce an acute psychotic reaction; in addition, use of the drug may trigger the onset or relapse of schizophrenia in vulnerable individuals
Chronic marijuana use, especially in a very young person, may also be a marker of risk for mental illnesses, including addiction, stemming from genetic or environmental vulnerabilities, such as early exposure to stress or violence. At the present time,
However, at this time, it not clear whether marijuana use causes mental problems, exacerbates them, or is used in attempt to self-medicate symptoms already in existence.
A number of studies have shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia.
Marijuana increases heart rate by 20100 percent shortly after smoking; this effect can last up to 3 hours. In one study, it was estimated that marijuana users have a 4.8-fold increase in the risk of heart attack in the first hour after smoking the drug.7 This may be due to the increased heart rate as well as effects of marijuana on heart rhythms, causing palpitations and arrhythmias. This risk may be greater in aging populations or those with cardiac vulnerabilities
exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Marijuana smokers show dysregulated growth of epithelial cells in their lung tissue, which could lead to cancer;8 however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers.9 Thus, the link between marijuana smoking and these cancers remains unsubstantiated at this time
Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 5070 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than does tobacco smoke. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increase the lungs
Nonetheless, marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, and a heightened risk of lung infections. A study of 450 individuals found that people who smoke marijuana frequently but do not smoke tobacco have more health problems and miss more days of work than nonsmokers.10 Many of the extra sick days among the marijuana smokers in the study were for respiratory illnesses.
Research clearly demonstrates that marijuana has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a persons existing problems worse. In one study, heavy marijuana abusers reported that the drug impaired several important measures of life achievement including physical and mental health, cognitive abilities, social life, and career status.11 Several studies associate workers marijuana smoking with increased absences, tardiness, accidents, workers compensation claims, and job turnover.
Marijuana admissions were primarily male (73.8 percent), White (51.5 percent), and young (36.1 percent were in the 1519 age range). Those in treatment for primary marijuana abuse had begun use at an early age: 56.2 percent had abused it by age 14 and 92.5 percent had abused it by age 18
The latest treatment data indicate that in 2006 marijuana was the most common illicit drug of abuse and was responsible for about 16 percent (289,988) of all admissions to treatment facilities in the United States.
Behavioral interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational incentives (i.e., providing vouchers for goods or services to patients who remain abstinent) have shown efficacy in treating marijuana dependence. Although no medications are currently available, recent discoveries about the workings of the cannabinoid system offer promise for the development of medications to ease withdrawal, block the intoxicating effects of marijuana, and prevent relapse.
According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, in 2007, 14.4 million Americans aged 12 or older used marijuana at least once in the month prior to being surveyed, which is similar to the 2006 rate. About 6,000 people a day in 2007 used marijuana for the first time—2.1 million Americans. Of these, 62.2 percent were under age 18.
The Monitoring the Future survey indicates that marijuana use among 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders—which has shown a consistent decline since the mid-1990s.
everything that ever went wrong in my life is the governments fault, and everything i ever did that i wasnt supposed to be doing, is the governments fault, and every time i ever got fired for giving people disgusting courtesy and bad service,
let me tell you something right now, if you were a carpenter, and i hired you to build me a deck, i want the job done professionally. its why i hired a carpenter.
if you build me something that i could have done myself, and i break my foot, it aint the fuckin governments fault that you owe me for my medical bills !
its YOUR fault for passing yourself off as the professional that you are clearly NOT,
and its YOUR fault for building a cheap piece of shit !
just like its the governments fault because natalie halloway decided that she was 18 and could do whatever she wanted, and went down to aruba and got murdered by the violent ass criminal natives, right ?
18 is just a kid, they dont know any better, and they are immature.
but, its the government's fault that when your 18, you think like a dickhead for most part, and when your 30 ya look back and laugh at yourself back then, right ?
america has 2 years to shape the fuck up and get the idea of legalizing weed and other dugs OUT of their fuckin heads, or im going to make my first steps on getting the information i need to work the system, to leave.
the cops got one of the most powerful, and EASILY the fastest full size sedans out there, they got M16s, M4s, all kinds of pistols, and shot guns, tazers, tear gas, stink bombs, and armored vehicles..
and they want to fuckin play chicken with some fucker who has a cheap pistol ?
The war on child porn has also been lost, thankfully Libertarians like Mary Ruwart and Sean Gabb are now arguing that it should be decriminalised.
Ruwart points out that prohibition of child porn increases the price of child performers as well making it a greater incentive for parents to use their kids against their will and that wheras coercion should be criminal, children who choose to freely engage in sexual acts have that right.
Google "Ruwart Child Pornography" and "Sean Gabb Gary Glitter
Double speak. Out of one side you say thankfully people are trying to decriminalize it. But out of the other side you just said that you support the prohibition of drugs and child porn.
Child porn has nothing to do with decriminalizing drugs. What makes child porn immoral is that children are forced into this against their will. No one is forcing drug users to use drugs against their will. Thus libertarians would support legalizing drugs but oppose child porn. The basic tenant of libertarianism is that you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.
Well, lets see then, the result of that particular piece of Libertarian bullshit is that wheras the state has no right to stop people turning themselves into thieving junkies, it has thew right to bang people up fro looking at computer images.
In point of fact Pure Libbys would have to argue that wheras the manufacture of cp should remain criminal, the consumption should not be, unless the person consuming it goes on to commit an offence related to it himself.
To argue otherwise is to claim that somebody watching footage of a burglary is as responsible for the crime as the burglar which is about as illiberal as it gets.
Which is why, of course, we hear lots of crap about how the "war" on drugs has failed but little about how the war on child pornography is also dying on its feet.
Its pure hypocrisy, bullshit and corporate spin that is governing these ideas, not rationality and logic.
everyone knows the government controls the drugs and reaks richly from it why do you think the heroin trade has multiplied after 911 when us soldiers moved into afganistan you think they ould have destroyed the crops yet the opisite effect has happened the us governmnt is making alot of money in iraq (oil) and afganistan on the missery of others under the false flag of terrorism
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
even though friedman is against the drug war, i'm definetly against his stance that hard drugs should be sold by the private sector. In my opinion is too much of a capitalist libertarian
i meant capitalist as in super-capitalist, ie: no outside scrutiny and active regulations on the actions of huge corporations. Complete economic freedom means coroporate giants taking over the lives of everyone else. Freidman wants this.
1st: the power to regulate drugs needs to return to the states not the DEA
2nd.: States should not punish those who use drugs society doesn't like. Consenting adults should be able to use drugs if they like. Any crimes committed by them can and should be punished as normal. Drug crimes are caused by the illegal nature of it causing: a) unnaturally high prices, and; b) violence by folks who can't turn to the courts or police to settle disputes, enforce contracts
Some of the greatest minds the human race have been drug users . Francis Crick was on LSD when he concieved of the double helix for DNA ! Carl Sagan smoked pot regularly !
Drugs is BIG BUSINESS controlled by CIA. It has been since the 70th. It generates HUGE FUNDS for "strange" politcal actions. Why has the Opium harvest dramatically increased in Afghanistan since it has been "freed" by the "Noble"?
Read Alfred W McCoy and Daniel Hopsicker. Google Barry Seal.
I just regret that I never had the opportunity to meet him. He is my hero and champion of freedom. A man who believed in liberty and stuck to his ideals even when no one would listen. It's sad we will no longer be able to hear him talk sense into us and do a little government bashing. Oh well, at least we can watch the reruns on youtube =)
Because no matter how right the voices of reason are, the ones voicing lies and misinformation are always louder, and they prey on the emtoions of the ignorant, who, sadly, outnumber the enlightened. Worse yet, the ignorant and the misinforming are both in the positions of power. In time, I hope, people will understand and learn to think for themselves. Then, and only then, will we come to terms with reality.
Hey ZRoach: Nicely stated. You are absolutely right. I keep telling every sane person I know that it is imperative to vote. I'm so fucking sick of driving down the interstate and watching K-9 Units mauling every speeding ticket recipient that gets pulled over. The police have become fucking gangsters ever since they were told that they get to keep all cash and property seized in this bullshit drug war.

2 things in this world that you absolutely WILL consume nomatter what your attitude is about food
1 is water, and the second SUGAR
the problem with obesity aint the fuckin sugar, its the TON of EVERYTHING. and that FAT in it.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
and the quality of the food in other countries, is nothing i would fail to adapt to.
some of the shit you CAN get here in america WILL give ya fuckin stomach cramps, block up your arteries, make you weigh as much as 2 "standard"
sized people,
i seen american food right with FAKE sugar, and "olean"
some kind of synthetic oil,
sounds like "castrol GTX" for cars
to me LOL
and i cant even go get a fuckin jar of peanut butter without getting E-coli
so much for usa.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
america has 2 years to shape the fuck up and get the idea of legalizing weed and other dugs OUT of their fuckin heads, or im going to make my first steps on getting the information i need to work the system, to leave.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
and staggering hypocrisy at that ! im not looking for a redneck ! lol
im looking for a place that atleast cares 2 measley inches about their people, and runs a modern state, and cares about having a clean place to live.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
and i'll also give some rise to the idea that part of it is because of your wimp border patrol that lets every fuckin idiot in the usa
which is another reason im definately considering my options on leaving a lot better than i used to
infact, a few years ago i called quantas, british airways, i looked a bunch different country websites, some were even more appealing than the usa.
and what am i going to do ? move in with some rednecks down in tennesee?
a few years of peace for nothing !

i want to be governed by those i elected,
NOT some fuckin non profit organization lead by some guy who got the idea to start up a fuckin club, and call himself the leader of it.
fuck the non profit organization who has HIRED employees like any other business.
i VOTED for the politicians.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
there are non profit organizations that advocate everything under the sun,
doesnt mean im going to tollerate them reaching their goals.

im not trying to equate drugs, with any other kind of crime.
im not using any sort of gateway theory, between 2 different kind of drugs, OR 2 different kinds of crimes.
the kind of a person who does drugs have a criminal mindset, period.
that is why they do what they do, because they dont care, about themselves, you, i, or anyone.
that sort of a sub-culture will always exist, laws or no laws.
with laws, i see how im safer, because then, i have somebody to complain to about it.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
do you know what they call america ?
the United States of Dope, the United States of AIDs, the United States of Retards,
and for the longest time i been extremely defensive, trying to defend the usa, but ya know what ?
since you stab me in the back, and leave ME holding the fuckin bag, FUCK YOU.
and since they call america what they do,
that SHOULD fuckin show ya, just how much the world loves america, and agrees with america
LMAO almost none at all.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
and to put it plainly, im getting sick and fuckin tired of your attitude, infact i been fuckin fed up with it.
your attitude fuckin sucks, and so does america already.
it aint about marijuana, its about YOU WANT
it aint about gay marriage, its about YOU WANT
there are a whole host of countries
(infact most) where these things still remain illegal, and they dont have a fuckin attitude EITHER
of the countries that atleast allow gay marriage, STILL dont have a fuckin attitude.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
the cops got one of the most powerful, and EASILY the fastest full size sedans out there, they got M16s, M4s, all kinds of pistols, and shot guns, tazers, tear gas, stink bombs, and armored vehicles..
and they want to fuckin play chicken with some fucker who has a cheap pistol ?
fuck that !

i pay my taxes, and i want my fuckin tax money spent on my country !
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
and i wont have to have to shop around for one either, out of the near 300 countries in the world, my criteria accounts for about 100 of them !
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
the point of a law is REGULATE, this is the direct result of the LAWS bending.
if the government dont want to enforce the laws, ( a service i pay for every week )
i'll go to a place where the laws are enforced, and a country where the government isnt fuckin scared to stand up to a bunch of fuckin Yobo Hee Haws,
and tell them NO !
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
what is on paper, and the reality are 2 different things.
the fact is we would have less crime, if we didnt have any laws at all.
well im not going to fuckin live in a anarchy state, i'll fuckin pack my bags and leave first !
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
i also do not want my kids around drug addicts,
i got 3 adopted kids, and a girlfriend that i will be marrying soon, sometime.
drugs are NOT something i was fuckin shared with my kids.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
its a reduction of crime reported on paper, NOT necessarily a reduction in
THE FUCKIN STUPID, ANNOYING, ABUSIVE AND REPULSIVE BEHAVIOR.
AntarcticaMan81186 2 years ago
Being a drug addict is NOT living a normal life ANYWHERE that i know of
and i am NOT willing to allow drugs to flow freely through my country, unscathed, unquestioned and unchallenged.

On another related video here I have been arguing with a libby who sees nothing wrong with the consensual banging of 4 year olds.
He also wants drugs legalised. Strange how these go together isn't it?
egapnala65 2 years ago
Of course, Libertarians like Mary Ruwart and Sean Gabb are both questioning the prohibition of child porn as well as drugs now.
Ruwart argues that the criminalisation of it inflates the price of it and thus provides an incentive for children to be used against their will.
Google "Mary Ruwart Child pornography" and "Sean Gabb Gary Glitter" for details of this next great step of the Libertarian agenda.
Consensual Paedophilia is the ultimate end of Libertarian philosophy as logic demonstrates.
egapnala65 2 years ago
He makes perfect sense to me. Remember how effective prohibition was.
happyinnanaimo 2 years ago
Yep, 1905, 41,000 tonnes of Opium globally distributed.
Today, less that 10,000 confined to a very small area of the world.
The only people who can't make sense of those figures ae those who want to make a killing out of drug addiction.
egapnala65 2 years ago
The war on child porn has also been lost, thankfully Libertarians like Mary Ruwart and Sean Gabb are now arguing that it should be decriminalised.
Ruwart points out that prohibition of child porn increases the price of child performers as well making it a greater incentive for parents to use their kids against their will and that wheras coercion should be criminal, children who choose to freely engage in sexual acts have that right.
Google "Ruwart Child Pornography" and "Sean Gabb Gary Glitter

That is beyond disgusting. You are beyond disgusting. I dont have to hope you will burn hell. Cause you will.
girzwald3 2 years ago
Yep, and so will every asshole whole believes corporates should be abvle to make shedloads out of drug addiction.
By the way check out the term irony. It is Libertarians who are declaring both the war on drugs and the war on child porn redundant.
I support the prohibition of both myself.
egapnala65 2 years ago
Double speak. Out of one side you say thankfully people are trying to decriminalize it. But out of the other side you just said that you support the prohibition of drugs and child porn.
Hypocrite. Liar. Disgusting individual.
girzwald3 2 years ago
The word "irony" is a most interesting one you know. Try looking it up sometime.
Are you Mr Garrison from "South Park"? "You go to hell, you go to hell and you die!!"
Never met a redneck before, delighted I'm sure.
egapnala65 2 years ago
Child porn has nothing to do with decriminalizing drugs. What makes child porn immoral is that children are forced into this against their will. No one is forcing drug users to use drugs against their will. Thus libertarians would support legalizing drugs but oppose child porn. The basic tenant of libertarianism is that you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.
yoshitora2001 2 years ago
Well, lets see then, the result of that particular piece of Libertarian bullshit is that wheras the state has no right to stop people turning themselves into thieving junkies, it has thew right to bang people up fro looking at computer images.
In point of fact Pure Libbys would have to argue that wheras the manufacture of cp should remain criminal, the consumption should not be, unless the person consuming it goes on to commit an offence related to it himself.
egapnala65 2 years ago
To argue otherwise is to claim that somebody watching footage of a burglary is as responsible for the crime as the burglar which is about as illiberal as it gets.
Which is why, of course, we hear lots of crap about how the "war" on drugs has failed but little about how the war on child pornography is also dying on its feet.
Its pure hypocrisy, bullshit and corporate spin that is governing these ideas, not rationality and logic.
egapnala65 2 years ago
Drug use still needs to be demonized whether drugs are legalized or not.
kosimpson 3 years ago
everyone knows the government controls the drugs and reaks richly from it why do you think the heroin trade has multiplied after 911 when us soldiers moved into afganistan you think they ould have destroyed the crops yet the opisite effect has happened the us governmnt is making alot of money in iraq (oil) and afganistan on the missery of others under the false flag of terrorism

This comment has received too many negative votes show
even though friedman is against the drug war, i'm definetly against his stance that hard drugs should be sold by the private sector. In my opinion is too much of a capitalist libertarian
redskull2006 3 years ago
If I may ask you; can you imagine a communist or socialist libertarian? Or a theocratic libertarian? Libertarians ARE capitalists.
baetores 3 years ago 2
i meant capitalist as in super-capitalist, ie: no outside scrutiny and active regulations on the actions of huge corporations. Complete economic freedom means coroporate giants taking over the lives of everyone else. Freidman wants this.

The war on drugs needs to stop
1st: the power to regulate drugs needs to return to the states not the DEA
2nd.: States should not punish those who use drugs society doesn't like. Consenting adults should be able to use drugs if they like. Any crimes committed by them can and should be punished as normal. Drug crimes are caused by the illegal nature of it causing: a) unnaturally high prices, and; b) violence by folks who can't turn to the courts or police to settle disputes, enforce contracts

he's not saying drugs are good, he's saying it's better to legalize it rather that keeping it illegal.

Drugs is BIG BUSINESS controlled by CIA. It has been since the 70th. It generates HUGE FUNDS for "strange" politcal actions. Why has the Opium harvest dramatically increased in Afghanistan since it has been "freed" by the "Noble"?

I just regret that I never had the opportunity to meet him. He is my hero and champion of freedom. A man who believed in liberty and stuck to his ideals even when no one would listen. It's sad we will no longer be able to hear him talk sense into us and do a little government bashing. Oh well, at least we can watch the reruns on youtube =)

His ideas were way ahead of their time and in todays era are starting to be seen as the path we should have taken from the start.
He left an indelible mark on society and will be greatly missed.

Bravo, Professor! Why aren't more people listening to voices of reason such as Herr Friedman? How many more billions will we flush before we wise up?
pepper123 5 years ago
