These are good photos but they do not show the mess. Miles and miles of junk piled up on the sides of the streets. Everything these folks owned, their furniture, appliances, carpeting and last the drywall on the interiiors. It could not be more disgusting especially everything is coated with a smelly, slick filthy film. Some houses have had foundations collapse in, that is horrific to see, gaping holes where basement walls should be. My nephew lived about 2 blocks from Ellis Park. All gone now.
Until she passed away in 2003, my mother lived on 8th Street NW (behind Pierson's Flowers and Garden Shop). I imagine all of that is under water. I'm a Cedar Rapids native (although I live in Denver, CO now). I have no family members in Cedar Rapids any longer--but it is still home!
My parents, brother, and aunts house's are wasted!!! Water was up into their second floors... I HOPE FEMA DON'T MESS UP HERE LIKE THEY HAVE DONE IN NEW ORLEANS!!!
I grew up on 8th St between Q Ave and Ellis Lane, the edge of Ellis Park. I went back last summer nad everything looked exactly the same. Wonder how that house is doing now.
It would be nice to see a June 11th 2010 recap.....

Hard for FEMA to screw up when they're hardly doing anything in the first place.
