@t3ng92 i suggest you hold off the update, assuming that you haven't saved your SHSH blobs, you cannot update to iOS4.0 specifically, as Apple does not sign anymore 4.0 firmwares, only 4.1, which is not jailbreakable, so just keep your Spirit jailbreak.

@sc4bbedwing Use TinyUmbrella to backup your SHSH blobs first. Then use BlackRa1n to jailbreak. After that, go into recovery mode and then restore to a custom 4.0.1 firmware.

@cl4r3nc3 sorry, the new bootrom cannot be hacked....DO NOT USE THIS HACK ON YOUR NEW BOOTROM IPHONE OR IT WILL BRICK. You can use Sn0wBreeze if you are on 3.1.2 new bootrom but it will be tethered.

Hi, I have added the source in Cydia and installed the Spirit2Pwn package on my 3GS jailbroken 3.1.3 with Spirit (I have checked and it is def the 359.3 bootrom as well). Can you provide step-by-step instructions what I do from there?? How do I create the custom 4.0 ipsw? (I am a windows vista user) Once that's created, I assume I just restore my phone via iTunes holding Shift and selecting restore?

@musik1e do you have your 3.1.3 caches saved? if you don't save them now using TinyUmbrella. The upgrade to iOS4, when that succeeds, then downgrade using Saurik's server to 3.1.3, kick it out of recovery mode using either iREB or irecovery. Jailbreak and then do the above again.

I installed that cydia source and now my went black now it wont do anything unless i restore it on itunes and that will install 4.0 and then I wont be able to use my sim card because it wont be unlocked or jailbroken. what shall i do?

@dellchan installing sources don't affect your phone in anyway, maybe your phone had problems before. You have to install the package for this to have effect, so why don't you try to explain what's wrong? Is your screen black? Try rebooting (Home+ Power button for 8 to 15 seconds)

@musik1e To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One

Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac or PC.

Step Two

Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step Three

After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

@dellchan well, you were supposed to install it, and then turn it off. for this to work, you have to be on recovery mode to restore to iOS4.

@vshizzle1 i'm afraid you're out of luck. Because you cannot get another person's SHSH blobs as they are not registered onto Saurik's server. Saurik's server is filled with more than 100,000 SHSH blobs, and if you get an error after changing your hosts file on your computer to Saurik's server, then none of your SHSH caches are backed up and none of them from Saurik's server can be used on your iPhone.
