  • This guy has som many true points about martial arts. Sadly though a single form is often flawed. learn two or three in combination and each reinforces the next. Excellent point Mark! I like these videos because it reminds people that martial arts isn't just a sport.

  • You don't get all the breathing thing with TKD, you just hit it! But it has to be said that breaking is not just about applicable power but about concentration, focus, technique etc. And yes, I have heard that boards don't hit back but the guy breaking them does!

  • Your all misguided people! Learn of people who have experienced REAL life violence

  • I personally respect Jiujitsu so does Ueshiba Morehei(founder of Aikido) who have been doing Jiujitsu since he was a kid. After decades of learning from various Jiujitsu master, he found himself with dilemma where he encounter some major problems in jiujitsu i.e multiple attacks, weapon attacks, lacking the 'ki' power etc. That was when Aikido was born.Aikido influenced so much by Jiujitsu but it is not for sports, MMA or UFC.It should be used wisely under certain circumstances.

  • to all haters of martial arts try fight us martial artist hahaha hiding in the of a gun how poor is that

  • Run....oldest defense known to man.

  • Big up mr miller - i think we took our tkd black belt grading together a good few years back. Fairplay and ur 100% right.-straight in no playin about.

  • lol, i like this guy!

  • LOL id gotta say though if u let someone do that ud be SCREWED BUT HAHAHA thatd be funny as hell

  • famous quote by Chun-li in "Bloodsport" bricks not hit back. I don't agree with board breaking myself. Body hardening is good training though, not for showing off. Good vid..thanks Mr. Mark

  • alright i think you have a good offence but a shitty defence... i saw one of your ifl fights...

  • not me its another MM sorry but cheers for your input

  • Ive trained with Mr Miller he's a great instructor!!

  • chi'd breaks dont require warmups when mastered.

  • legend

  • fuckin hilarious

but true i like fuckin beatin up mother fukers who try shit

    i will fight u and beat u

  • :)) oho, I love this one! good point, Mr. Mark!

  • Maybe the real thecnique is to ko someone with the "onion breath"... ; )

  • hahaha my dad has the onion breath , foul i tell ya lol anyways this guy is really good! i wouldnt mess with him!!!

  • What he is demostrating is exactly why I like watching his breaks more than anyones on youtube,(Except myself of course). No practice swings. He just blasts his targets. Love it.....

  • well ya know......... that is a good question... i don't recall... i'm mostly drunk, so its possible.

good point in vid though,What is your core style by the way??

I do krav maga, muay thai, and jiu-jitsu (shodan)

  • What style of Jujitsu do u do if you dont mind me asking. I do seir yoku. (traditional). I do Krav Maga too, which i find way better than jujitsu, for self defence anyway.

  • Bjj is what ive been studying

  • Right, nice one

  • hold up, why practice this....in another one of your videos you basically said how bad it was to be on the floor (which is basically what 90-95% of bjj is)

  • Your right its what you say but as i keep getting told how can i comment on BJJ i have done some studdies and still stand by my comments, The more BJJ i learned the more i see how dangerouse the mentality of going to ground is for the street, evade and counter strike i feel is the best way

  • But if some one picks a fight with you on the street their probablt bigger then you... how do you defend and strick when then can take your hareset punch

  • I would say your right 99% of the time on size but nobody can take being finger thrust or thumbed to the eye or you could strike the throat every situation will be different but dont rely on BFT as the means to stop them just use any means available

  • thanks for the tip

  • does that unneccesary preparation include wearing white Japanese underwear (GI) when you train to fight when you are english and not Japanese...when you aren't going to wear it in the street??

  • What!!! Dont you wear yours out clubbing?LOL

  • well yea

  • don't forget taking your shoes off because while training you have bare feet.

  • what relevance has breaking to self defence.Just practice pre emptive strikes, padwork and lots of sparring at all ranges.

  • Brilliant!

  • Thank you Mark! Love this video, straight forward simple and well put!

  • don't try to look clever, it's not in your genes.

  • i like this guy, he make alot more sence than anyone else i hear on here

  • yeah that is the one thing that i always found ridiculous on some martial arts. The need to break wood or brick or whatever to show power. I find it much more interesting to know how to control a situation without that oodo bogus magic energy crap. =D

  • this is so true. if it is a way to get attention or to impress any onlookers, its probably not combat applicable.

  • this guy dissed jujitsu and got it a lil out of context but this is PERFECT!!! i agree one hundred percent!!! i never got the point of breaking, all my life doing martial arts and i was always bemused as to why people broke stuff. it shows nothing, it shows that after countless seconds you can accelerate your body and make a stabilised brick shatter. that is not martial arts, that has little to do with fighting, more to do with showing off and a lack of understanding. five stars!

  • ToraJutsu01 - this guy mark is pointing out that he trains to break without a prep,.. it's BAM! so,. the point is this.. do you want to train with mark and let him practise on you? or would you prefer it if he hit something else? i understand wh people dont get breaking, because most of it is rubbish. however the point is this,.. good breakers have to pracise on bricks because if they hit people without pads in sparring they'd probably end up in jail. breaking properly is TOTALLY martial arts...

  • What a truly funny video,tk is rubbish as a self defence system as when you strike someone to defend your self or not you are liable to get locked up.I do judo and this is excellent for self defence,as you can stop a fight very quickly with a heavy throw into the tarmac.I have been doing judo for 15 years and have never felt the need to look at other martial arts for answers like you.If you think you can stop a fight with 1 punch....dream on.

  • if you think you cant!! maybe your right!!! but many many people train to and can. I also know judo so to say you would not look at another art is like staying in your room and never leaving but telling yourself your the fastest runner in the world. How would you know

  • jjgeek1234 - is this some kind of joke? like we read earlier there was a guy killed with one punch to the head in a road rage situation on the M11 last month, your sports training has shrunk your world - of course you dont understand how a single blow can finish a confrontation, there r 100's of things involved 2 consider 2 b successful at this,..eg forged hands, correct attacking tool, animated body mass, target area, timing,..it goes on and on,..but some people got good at it..like u at Judo

  • to jjgeek1234, you should look up Jim Harrison. He is a Judo master and champion, Judo was his first art, but he went on to become a master in Karate and Jujitsu. As an undercover cop, he was given the chance to apply everything. He has actually shot and killed people, broke someone's pelvis with a front kick, fractured someone's vertebrae with punches, ruined a pro boxer's career, and much, much more. Guess what? He always tries to keep the fight striking and off the ground. Do you know better?

  • Again meh, be a performer if you like. Be a sports competitor if you like. Learn self defence if you like.

The problem is that people get these confused, not that they practice them to begin with.

  • Very well said! If you can't use it, lose it.

  • i like that saying, im gonna steal it :)

  • HAHAHAHA Great take down!!!!

  • the was a polar bear in my pool on the weeking but luckily i watched this video before i jumped in the wrestle it.

It was also lucky that i filled the pool with jelly crystals becasue it made the jelly wrestle taste great.

i beat the tiger and we went out on a acorn to celebrate.

    the end

  • i like your style

    so calm

  • right but cool down please thats simple truth that breakers are just breakers most of cases:)

  • this new ykd movie thats coming out is going to 1st promote tkd as a joke, but then the publicity is going to shine spot lights on the forgotten real martial art that Mark Miller has studied for 25+ years! Hands like mallets, fists like hammers, destroying technique used on 20th century battle fields.. tkd is coming back, because mma and cage fighting is big right now, if only everyone knew what one of the firt mma's was in the 50's and 60's !

  • Very well said!! Thanks for posting.

  • LOL, hilarious and soooo true!!!

  • you are absolutely right

    great videos.

  • Hear hear. Good point well made Mr Miller.

  • I agree. If you have to take a few seconds to muster up enough nerve to strike, it's not functional.

  • Mark. I have the exact problem when demonstrating breaking. People saying "Tiles are easy, bricks are easy, etc..."

Well done for making this video and good work.

  • Thanks mate, just wondered who you train with??

  • I have trained with a few people but i have stopped for a few months to practise on my teaching.

I am finalising all the bits to start my club.

I am currently teaching at a few schools but will have my own club as of hopefully April.

I will post some videos of breaking and demonstrations soon. It pisses me off how the non-believers have to f***ing be nasty.

  • Quality video

  • THIS IS GREAT! Thank you Sir!!!

  • i see this guy does fight, in some other video so no need to answer my question b4

  • mark mller, i think breaking things is just party tricks , but i saw you offering to fight ppl so you must be commended but why dont you just do some boxing to prove yourself. karate guys usually loose

  • party tricks is bobbing for aples no? funny an electrician is usualy better at electrics than a plumber and vice versa, karate guy looses at boxing, boxer looses at karate, thanks for commenting

  • Someone attacks me I crush their balls or gouge their eyes. Serves them right for attacking me!

  • I don't know if you realise it yourself, Mark, but you truly are the David Brent of martial art-videos. Truly hilarious, this is.

  • I was waiting for him to walk off camera and wack a pile of bricks after that.

  • yeah to be honest all the "psyching up" and yelling is just for show they wanna make the audience think its somethign that it isnt...there is no secret flying dragon lightening chi death touch to breaking...im with you 100 percent man..

  • I've taken JJ for years and I've also studied other Martial Arts. Yeah one fault of BJJ is that it in only 1 no 1. but that still doesnt mean you cant use it n a street fight with multiple oponents.....you just have to incorporate other matial arts with it. A favorite of mine is Muay Thai and Krav Maga. I think MMA is the way to go.

  • Good point, keep training and incorporate some BJJ if you want the other side of your game to be as good as the standup

  • my friends train and teach grapling arts giving many long talks about techs but its always better for them to incorperate striking than a striker to incorperate grapling in my opinion

  • i have tried jj and find it very good for what it is, but this being the reason i find fault in its teaching as its only for 1 on 1 in a combat situation and leaves you 100% in danger if another attacker is within striking range, when on the floor you dont have the luxury of being able to dodge avoid, strike and run if needed.

  • You have a very very good point Mr. Miller. However for the lower level belts I think it is important to "focus" on breaking the board so one does not injure themselves (For example measuring, make sure they time the snap perfectly, getting the right angle). But after repetition and practice, in a real situation it should be more of a reflex. I think that is what is important about learning martial arts, as a "Self Defense" one is not over thinking, but instead uses reflexes.

  • That was one of the single greatest rebuttals I've ever heard. Well done!

  • By the way Mr. Miller, if youre interested in the modern type research of how and why you can break bricks, google "Wolff's law", check out "Wikipedia" explanation. You might find this interesting.

Keep up the good work in your martial arts training.

    Cheers!

  • Great point! But you have to understand, that you gain your "ki" by breathing DEEP, and with every breath, your body creates MORE calcuim deposits onto your knuckles just before you strike. haha! Adding this to my favorites, thank-you sensi.

  • this guy is saying truth. fuck the meditation. i took hapkido and let me tell you: when i take you down, i WILL break your wrist/hand or kick you in your mouth or ribs, simple. and i dont break briks or wood. good point Mr. Miller.

  • The Brit has a damn good point

  • breaking techniques that can be applied (said with your best Beckham accent)

    you mean like this...

    youtube URL > watch?v=kWKuVHHdmXo

of course you will need an attention span that lasts more than it takes to order a pint of beer at your local with Sharon on your arm

  • yes i saw the clip but its clearly not kumg fu but it was ok,thanks for posting

  • Damn you man, I'm addicted to these clips! Y'know why? Cos I can't get my anti-inflammatory until next week, but you make me laugh so much I may not bother with the pain (from my intensive 'sport' m.arts workout)

I write again: PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR CLIPS ARE A WAG!! ps. where are you in Spain? I'm just around the corner in mid-France, maybe I could pop in for tea & biscuits??

  • just outside benidorm your welcome to pop down i will be interested to see(without taking the piss) if you could realy teach me something.if you want to mail me direct il give you my number

  • Mark, beleive me, if was able to do that I'd be on the first plane over -I'd even fight you myself if I wasn't so old and decrepit... I think the problem here is simple, anyone I sent would be so busy laughing they would never remember a damn thing.

keep up the good work - you kill me man.

  • um did i offer you a fight?? so its clear you have a sense of humour but hey im sure it will save your life too in the right situation,oh if you get time learn to read so the reply will match the comment posted ratrher than blahblahblah

  • Ermm I liked it for all the wrong reasons. I'm going to start a 'Mark Miller' fan club, you could take the mantle from Freddy Star...hilarious!!

  • well lets see how we could arrange this!! we meet you can say my teaching is crap so i allow you to choose a guy for me to teach and for you i will choose and in say 3 months they can have a fight and the winnwer is the winner nothing more to say,

  • Now, this clip I did like!!

  • i know this man and he is a very good person and ive seen a meny things for e.g....in real street fights when he was security in Benidorm-Spain...WOW this man is a MEAN MACHINE

  • I like this guy. :)

looking forward to more video's of you!

  • i see spacers on your video

solid striker, great technique, terrific athlete.

    never a master,

  • To master an art is a false concept!! Are you still afraid of spiders??

  • total con job

not a bad athlete, but no true master would permit spacers. spacers are a compromise that separates substance from style.

    he makes money from chumps

  • So which one of my students are you??

  • good point.

  • thats funny

  • i've studied tkd for 21 years and i'm only 26. i totally agree with what you say dude. respect

  • Thats one thing that impresses me about you. These days there are too many fakes out there. I appreciate what youre doing.

  • well i can chop a water melon in half with my fist...bu i cant eat it afterwards thats as far as my breaking skills go......as far as the whole meditation...your too right lol...your good...ppl on you tube just like to hate ...oh and whats a burger bar...

  • ha ha ha yes sorry didnt want to promote mcdonalds

  • Carry a gun, it's more lethal than a chop, and faster too. But I do agree, don't practice something you can't do instantaniously! Great point!

  • nice idea i will post to show you how its not so simple unless you walk around with the gun in hand!!!Remember you always have your hands and feet ready they are permenantly cocked ready to fire

  • good point

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahaha -

    hell yeah, so true man
