  • Gay white men of the early 1970s treated women and people of color as less than entirely equal? Well, gosh. How very much of their time - without clairvoyance for how things would be 40 years later.

So glad the lesbians have moved to the front of the LGBT line - after the lesbian separatists split off from "the movement" rather than actually dialogue.

And, a bit less of the "we" stuff. There is NO Borg hive mind at work here.

  • @TheDrewManXD yeah sure maybe we got off on the wrong foot why not I'm Louie

  • @TheDrewManXD oh pipe down you silly goose post the same thing to others down there, the ones who are having those interesting "fuck you" conversations you whinny pussy I in NO way wanna be apart of your gay little "club" you call a community so pipe down

  • @skitzofranik999 can i speak to you on a mature level perhaps?

  • She sounds like she's trying to do an impression of Sylvester Stallone.

  • @baddave62 Trenton community college WHY

  • Man this fuckin dike looks rough holy shit she HATES cock!!!!!! Really looks like she spent her entire life smoking in motorcycle bars but in all seriousness folks fuck religion and fuck special interest groups such as LGBT

  • @skitzofranik999 At which hospital do you practice brain surgery?

  • @skitzofranik999 your a disgrace to the atheist community to hate others.

  • She is inspired. :-)

  • Fuck religion.

  • @Jesus

    Fuck off.

  • Damn It, she is right about the tee shirts.

  • What a bigot! For someone who claims to be tolerant, she sure hates white males. Also to recommend a coven as a religious alternative for atheist is not what the atheist movement is about. To remove Christianity, Judaism, and Islam as an atheist belief, then support a religion that worship trees and elves? People like this should keep their mouths shut until they learn what being contradictory means!

  • If God loves all his children, he gives them all the opportunity to accept his love and that his only begotten son died for our sins. So, therefore we shall accept those who deny that choice. We do not condemn them, for they may already be condemned? We are children of the Light, of the Good, the Pure. Yes, it is not this black and white, but we cannot gain peace and harmony by causing more misery for those who don't choose a Righteous path. We were given a Freedom of Choice. It is divine.

  • @norevelation While I applaud you for holding your tongue, I find your reasons for doing so patronizing and disrespectful.

  • @DarkJakable Very well. Why is this?

  • I was raised in a Christian home. I was raised that being gay or an atheist was just another sin, such as lying or stealing. I was taught that to bash any person for their sins is wrong, no matter how grave. That is completely heinous and contradictory to the word of God. I was taught to love each person just the same, and at the most tell them that they are loved, and are prayed for to find the right path. Who am I to make claims on behalf of the creator?

  • @norevelation It's arrogant and egotistical to claim your path is the right path, and especially to tell them that you are praying that they be like you. Also, we know we are loved by the people that actually matter and actually exist, it's weird to tell strangers you love them..

  • @YourLoveLetter I see, by what you've said only proves that you are arrogant and egotistical as well. I don't see how your difference is better than what I am.

  • @norevelation Oh but I have an excuse, im a sinful atheist! What has your religion done to change your sour attitude? Seems like nothing.. maybe we are all just the same with or without religion ;). For future reference at the most you should refrain from saying anything related to religion what so ever if you are trying to get along with atheists.

  • @YourLoveLetter Your statement on its own is flawed. Furthermore, you keep coming back to the assumption that I've been mentioning religion. And honestly, your words read full of a certain denial. You seem just as smug as some religious people. No, rubbing shoulders with the likes of you is something to grate teeth over.

  • @norevelation you have been mentioning religion...spewing religious doctrine is mentioning religion. If you dont want to socialize with atheists why exactly did you comment on this video? lol. And how did you come across it anyways, just curious.

  • @YourLoveLetter I have no idea how I got here. It may have been a featured video, I don't think it was a related video. Doesn't really seem like my avenue, anyway.

  • @TheAnonymousAspie "Feminists scream ... LGBT barely makes rational points" ... please follow up your fact claims with evidence, otherwise your fact claims will be rejected. "nothing like communism" ... are we talking about the same Stalinist communism that, from 1941 to 1959 build over 20,000 Russian Orthodox churches? "You will win, win the downfall of society." ... slippery slope arguments are a kind of informal fallacy.

  • @TheAnonymousAspie The problem is not that atheists don't keep it to themselves, the problem is Christians who can't keep their religious horseshit out of government. I could care less about the beliefs of Quakers, they leave us the hell alone. It's conservative evangelical assholes who must be defeated. It's the right wing idiot class of fox news retards... and it's people like you who enable their shameless stupidity.

  • I love her articles. They're so very interesting and they're skillfully written and interesting.

  • This is a nice lecture. I hope some of the suggestions made by Greta will be applied in groups across the country.

  • Awesome, not the greatest public speaker but still an amazing human being and impresssive writer!! thanks for uploading!

  • I absolutely loved this talk, very informative.

  • I wander if there is a Gay or Athiest coming day? It be nice for a party and gift and support.

  • I think Feminists, LGBT's and Atheists are the most powerful of influences today. This is evident in youth culture, and pop culture in abundance. We are winning. Amongst the youth, almost no one gives a shit about God, that is the first step.

  • 45:50: at least those leaders of the LGBT realise that now (it had to bite them in the ass hard) hopefully in 30 years from now they would have rectified it. I certainly hope the Atheist leaders don't have to get bit in the ass by it as well before they realise it has to be addressed.

  • I think Pat Condell and Thunderf00t definitely need to watch this lecture.

  • oh Christ!

  • I'm still kind of confused as to what the problem is.

  • There has been atheists since there was religion or superstitions.

  • I disagree with this when "secular" and "atheist" are used as interchangeable. They're not imo. I'm both though :p

  • I did not have much of an idea on the atheist movement. Greta Christina was fabulous!

  • @BuggedBass Why does it matter? Obviously you didn't watch the whole video. Jerk.

  • @kosmicslop Agreed, it's a typical tactic - attack the messenger and NOT the message.

    Thanks for checking the twit.

  • Some people are just happy living in Ignorance those Atheists..

  • I LOVE the Atheist movement to pieces too! A big e-hug to all ya'll.

  • I love her approach to the issue. It is very no-nonsense and open. It's almost like she's having a conversation. Kudos!

  • I really don't think atheism is where LGBT was 25 years ago. No one's raiding secular organizations.

  • @Phelan666 Well, there doesn't need to be a parallel on every level, but there are enough to draw certain similarities.

  • Very nice speech, Greta. Your point on the different types of activists was enlightening.

  • Nicely done, Greta. When/where are we going to have the first Atheist Pride parade?

  • @tnunnster Jerusalem :)

  • Nice tats.

  • Repent Gays

Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.

Romans 1: 26 For this cause YHVH gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

  • @derekdb2

    Jehovah hates oysters, too!

    Leviticus 11:9-12 says:

9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

  • Love when you blog on atheist matters, GC, and appreciate your atheist meme of the day; but ummm I can't uh make it through umm your um talks, much as I'd uh like to because of all those umm dratted useless uh interjections. Better those than the more common plethora of you-know's and like's, but gee umm whiz, girl, can't you uh purge 'em uh from your umm speech??!?

  • @Barrph

Agree with this completely. Love the blog, but listening to all those umms is painful. Hopefully she'll get better at that with more speeches.

  • Really excellent talk that explored things I've thought/wondered/worried about and more importantly ones that i have not. A great speaker melding both her topics as a spokesperson to our benefit

  • Absolutely brilliant. Love it :)

  • This is wonderful! One smart lady. I hope to hear more from her in the future.

  • One criticism I have, on reflection, is the selection of race, gender and sexual orientation as being the only examples of diversity. If you look at even the most "diverse" groups on that scale you'll find almost no people with disability. About 20% of the population has a disability (where 14% are African American). Disabled people are routinely allowed only to have a major platform on issues of disability (Steven Hawking excepted).

  • @onesagotoomany The lecture focused on the LGBT mvmt. I would not take this as a blanket statement that the SSA, or any org, does not consider differences in ability within the broad category of diversity. The 1 in 5 statistic is a self-reported number...since some disabilities are not apparent, we really have no idea how many people at the con would classify themselves as disabled. FWIW, I'm a SSA Board Member & I have a disability. (I use a wheelchair.)

  • @onesagotoomany Well that's because there are none. They've all been healed by faith (lol)

    But no you're absolutely right.

  • @onesagotoomany I totally agree with you, here. Many times when diversity is mentioned or brought up, the disabled isn't even on the radar. I work at a local college, and we have a large and very active ACCESS Services department, and that is one of the most popular complaints. Even on posters advertising events and so on, you see the rainbow of races and ethnicities, but the disabled are excluded. Thanks for making me more conscious of that. Thanks for speaking up.

  • @onesagotoomany I dont agree with including disability in the main focus of diversity only because that would open the door for all kinds of other minorities to prioritize... like overweight people, seniors, red heads, etc etc. When you think about it there are all kinds of minority groups like that. You cant possibly please all those sub groups. Women obviously are a huge group, people of color are a huge group and they arent just african americans.

  • @YourLoveLetter Well if you're "focus of diversity" is to "please" "those sub-groups" then you've totally missed the point. Diversity isn't about pleasing those pesky little minorities, who are so annoying with their demands, and, you know, desire to be taken seriously. Gosh, if you start trying to please one, ten more pop up and demand you please them too. Seriously: it is responses like that that show just how big a mountain of assumed privilege that diversity education has to climb.

  • @onesagotoomany it is to please and make them feel included, how is it not? I didnt say they were pesky, I am saying that if you change your focus to the 1000s of smaller minority groups then the accomplishments of the bigger ones will take longer or be less effective. Those are core minority groups that extend to even disabled people...so we should probably work on those first.

  • @YourLoveLetter No, the point of diversity is *not* to please minorities or to "make them feel included". Really I'm sure you think you're being all nice and inclusive and stuff, but your attitude is really offensive. Your role when it comes to *any* disadvantaged minority, is to get the hell out of the way. Not to drop your patronizing manna on their poor little heads, or decide who's big and worthy enough to be blessed by your mighty benevolence.

  • @onesagotoomany i think i would know being a triple minority lol. All i give a shit about is that they let me feel included. That isnt true, if you "got out of the way" like this woman said some minorities wouldnt take the opportunity because they werent socialized to feel worthy or wanted of those positions of power. So really your way would be completely useless in the effectiveness of diversity. To start making people feel wanted and included is most important. And you brought up whos bigger.

  • @YourLoveLetter Well, how very patronizing. I'm sorry, but I can't help but as see your attitude as a big part of the problem.

  • Being a white male atheist, I can't thank you enough for everything you said! Atheists are really starting to make in roads into the greater media and political discussion every month and your worlds speak wonders to our futures needs.

Also, our SSA group has talked about starting a Secular Community Center in the next five years. I'm glad you touched upon that concept in your presentation, and I hope we can be some of the leaders to make this next step in Secularism a reality.

  • @Evansaysblah What does being a white male have to do with it?

  • Comment removed

  • @Phelan666 Great question! Being a white male matters because we are the most privileged (Both historically and currently) in Americas short life and have the been the leader in the suppression of all other less privileged groups (Such as women, blacks, poor, foreigners, etc)

Also, as Greta points out, White Males need to recognize that them stepping aside for new more diverse leadership is actually of massive importance.

To better understand white privilege YouTube Tim Wise

  • @Evansaysblah I posted that before I got to that part. Think that's fairly obvious.

  • Superbly argued, lots to think about.

  • Really wonderful talk. The point of outspoken advocacy and diplomacy is key on. Atheists are reeling from internal fights that are disruptive and waste energy and in fact hurt us. It absolutely a waste of time. And spot on on self-labeling/identity too. And diversity is great.

  • Check meetup dot com and you'll find a lot of Atheist groups in your local area. In fact, the Godless Liberal Social Society of Los Angeles resides there :)

  • When I grow up, I want to be Greta Christina!

  • @brandiXmachina ME TOO! <3
