  • Phnom penh before was name the city of pearl . It was written in history .

  • I heard phnom penh before was very famous in Asia , they

  • Ce n'était pas la France qui détruisait le Cambodge,

C'était le roi même qui détruisait le Cambodge en association avec Pol Pot quelques années plus tard...

  • not a criticism, but for any one who knows Phnom Penh intimately, the film shows the car driving in all directions of the compass. i guess Samdech only wanted to showcase the city to the outside world.

  • the car moves pretty slow am i correct?

  • Phnom Penn had a population of around 50,000 in 1965; ten years later it had increased to around 2 million due to refugees escaping war and bombing in the countryside. Very nostaligic clip, nice clean looking urban area.

  • Nice! The bad thing is Cambodia actually is not luxurious than before. T.T

  • I like the video. thanks

  • Yes Harry8292, I like your comment, I never see Any King made movie Y don't he made movie instead made the country fall to the jail without wall ..good person he kill. God his wife his son all play movie. Yes@Burntice745 Phnom Penh was look very good before. but many people now say Phnom penh now very development. How do u think?

    .

  • this is a stage show. they probably had a curfew so they could make that film

  • wow great to see how phnom penh looked like before....

  • The acting is ... somewhat awefull. But, IT'S SO COOL. I'M PROUD TO BE CAMBODIAN.

  • nice

  • So Crowded , I dont know what the Hell happen Now its like a bomb exploded with Honkings, i dont know how you guys sleep

  • Take out a few infrastructures, throw more litters and beggars, remove the old cars for newer cars and destroy the roads. There you have it, our present cambodia. Be proud because Hun sen and his CCP will push our country to the next level in the next..... hmmmm...? 20 years?

  • WOW! everything back then looks so clean and beautiful

  • Wow...it was a lot less crowded and peaceful back then. But who would knew that in less than 10 years....well....

  • omg i dont understand wat they saying

  • in the video, the street has more cars than what phnom penh has today.. All thanks to Polpot for destroying your own country..

  • @webnavigator000 I know Phnom Penh is turning out to be vietnam with all those Motocycles

  • @webnavigator000 What are you crazy?? There is so much cars now you can even go any place %100 grid lock. Traffic would be better if Cambodian did not drive with the me first attitude. They will drive taking up both lanes because they are so worried they may get passed if they chose the wrong lane. The richer the Cambodian the bigger A hole he is when it come to driving.

  • Home sweet home! I miss home and if i have to go back to the past i would do it the city look so clean and so pretty . not to many homeless on the streets what happen to ask now? .. that remain to be answer...

  • Great to see this old french comitment to investment in Cambodia. What a pitty it was distroyed. Cambodian people can still be found living outside of the capital, that is now 80 percent vietcong. I had the most wonderful experience riding my bike through the jungle mountain, back water of Cambodia and living with beautiful memories from that experience in 2009. See my clips nigel walker on YouTube. Khmar villages sleeping in nature lone rider.

  • we used french as an official language in that time

  • The pilot's name is Prince Sisowat Chivorn Monirak, the little kid was Prince Norindrapong, the only brother of present King Sihakmoni (son of Sihanouk and then princess Monique). I went to see the movie when I was in High school, they speak mostly French. Prince Chivorn Monirak also played in The Killing Field as Khmer rouge village chief who gave his son to Dith Pran to take care of.

  • @sivhengu Thank you very much. I wondered who these people are and now I know. Besides, what is the title of the whole film?

  • @ewa184

The film called Apsara and produced by King Sihanouk. Most people in the film was either related to the king or a high ranking officer.

  • @sivhengu Thank you for your information.

  • Anyone know the names of the pilots?

  • I wish khmer never go through Khmer Rouge. I bet if we haven't been through Khmer Rouge we would have been one of the most powerful country in South East asia. But ever since the khmer rouge khmer have been improve dramatically. i love khmer.

  • It was looking so peaceful and beautiful Cambodia back then, with that Jeep love it man. I would like to drive throught my country like that! Wht bout the rest the movies who have them?

  • I agree with everyone. It look so different. I hope that one day our country returns to something that resembles that time.

  • respond to PAULINBIN360. Sihanouk he try to do everything in his power to stabalize the country. He is a very good king. Soon after country was free from the FRENCH, he built school, factory, road and many many more. It just so unfortunate that our country was in the middle to the super power ( soviet , china, usa). The king try his very best to be neutralize. Politice very compkicated.

  • @MrSopheapsem Sihanouk is a traitor who supported the North Vietnamese Army and the National Front Liberation of South Vietnam.

That is why Khmer Rouge started.

I say this as a proud American Vietnamese

  • Killing of the khmer people 100% is Sihanouk and his wife Monik and absolutly Sihanouk make cambodian down to under the ground.

  • A cet époque là, le français était le plus parlé en langue étrangère

  • thank so much for sharing

  • back there, people prefered to speak french? It sounds very nice.

  • This is dubbed in French but I'll bet some people back then did. My grandparents did (:

  • when i see i this i feel bad of my dad. 1975, my dad was teenager, but he is not lucky. at that time it was civil war. All people were living in the hell. They married with someone that they never met and never love. Im so sorry of what we had before. But now is too late. All cambodian r living in the jail without wall. we r living with corrupt leadership. I hope one day we can wake up from this bad dream.

  • @metchandara

If your parents didn't love each other why did they still had you?

  • @rainvedio2005 if u want to know how they got me, u should ask ur parents. u don't need to ask me how? because ur mom fuck so many guys before she got married with ur dad and then produce u from the shit ass...Lolzzzz

  • @rainvedio2005 During pol pot time, people had no choice of whom they picked. Pol Pot forces you to marry whoever they want u 2. If u don't they kill u.

  • @metchandara Hunsen and his accomplice is keeping cambodia in this "jail"

  • thanks, the cars look a little later than 1955. no?

  • my mistake, the film was actually 1965

  • @sidmann fucking sucks that they used french! kmer is more beautiful

  • @ballm0use the movie its from is also in khmer, its just that the version i have is dubbed in french. the movie is called apsara also featuring a small part where sinsisamouth appear in it which i also uploaded

  • @sidmann thanks buddy

  • @ballm0use yes, dear. Khmer is so beautiful at that time. I love Cambodia n all u guys..who belong to Khmer nation....!

  • @ballm0use no french is more beautiful¡¡¡ :) but i have nothing against your country :)

  • @tckiwi the car that`s a Mini Moke made in England

  • Ah the simpler days mate !! why fix things when it's already perfect ? today communism spread all over Cambodia like a bacterial colonies.

  • cambodian was so kool back there!!

  • Mr Sidmann ... thank you for sharing these film snippets! They're amazing archival records!

  • Looks alot cleaner than today, and not so much people around the street

  • 80%viet and 20%khmer in today cambodian capital...

  • So we had less people back then, but yet more progress than now with almost double the population?

  • SAD! that's what happen when you kill over one million of intelects and intelligents people. The country plunged into darkness. A 50 years of prosparities turned backward in three yrs. of un-imaginable dispares, instead of a better future. There are ten and thousand of Westerner educated Khmers whose would be more than happy to help rebuild Cambodia.Khmer people have suffer too much for far too long. Enough is enough.

  • omg look how clean and innocent it was...so sad now...gotta start from the very beginning again!

  • beatiful...

  • The country looked clean back then because of less traffic, now too many moto. Seem like the gov't could afford more things then, now mostly from donation. How sad.

  • limpiarlo porque es antes de la reign de Khmer Rouge, y el 'incident" en 1975.. jeje

  • Looks like such a beautiful city...no wonder it was considered to be one of the most charming cities in Asia at that time. Everything looks peaceful and people look prosperous. I think of those actors and people in the background and then think of the tragedy that befell the country 20 years later. I wonder how many of these people survived the pol pot years.

  • This video is from King Sihanouk's movie, named "Apsara", which was made in 1960s. The little boy starring is HRH Prince Norodom Narindrapong. The pilot, Phaly, is HRH Samdech Sisowath Chivanmonirak.

  • i agree, the title is wrong - this is Phnom Penh in 1965 not 1955. The proof is in the Mig 17 jet figther planes which were gifted to Camboda around that time.

  • yeah maybe wrong typing.

  • Deem from your words, you must relate to the royal family or have worked in its government at that time. Even thought, I am not from that generation, I am very proud the progress we have made at the time, and feels sad to witness how much we have lost. Hopefull, we can learns from it, learns our children the true history, not the here say or opinions. And try our best to moves forward. All and all, at least there are HOPES.

  • WOW. Looks like there was more cars on the streets than cyclos.

  • Many things happened in 1955.

  • I think this movie is 1965, not 1955. Prince Norodom Narinrapong was born in 1954, and he definately does not look 1 year old to me.

  • I don't know anywhere in Phnom Penh where the roads are *that* nice today. Thanks for these old videos.
