Sam Beam wrote the song. Gibbard gives him credit for writing it frequently before covering it. He often acknowledges that he also prefers Beam's version.
Is it just me or did he borrow all of the elements for this acoustic version of the song from Sam Beam (Iron and Wine)? I know that Sam covered it for the Garden State Soundtrack, after the Postal Service already did it. This to me, just sounds like a cover of that cover...The basic chords and the way he accents the vocals, even the capo on the 6th fret. The only difference is he didn't speed it way down, or finger pluck it. If this song is going to be played acoustic...I prefer Sam's version =X
idk about that. It's similar but if you he basically plays all the postal service songs the same way acousticly. Different chords but same general sound. I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing it this way before Iron and Wine covered it either, but I honest I don't know that for sure
@spanovich That's because Iron & Wine covered it in the same key and using the same chords as the original Postal Service version. The only difference is that Beam used a guitar instead of synthesized sounds.
the second night they also had a bunch of selfish annoying jerks who disrupted the show to ask the performers for things. i'd rather not experience that.

bahahaha. i was one of the "selfish annoying jerks". but guess what, i walked away with ben gibbars lai, and my friend had jenny lewis'. soo, im fine with my behavior :D haha
yeah, it's exactly that kind of behavior that makes concerts not fun. you're there for the music, not a hand out from the performers. if i'm ever a professional musician, i will never give things out to people like that who ask. it's just stupid.
Best show ever!!!!

if you check out other versions of this, the capo is on 5, and the chord progression is much different than then Iron and Wine version. Just saying

Sorry, but I think you're wrong, this song was written by Ben Gibbard....
"Such Great Heights" is a single released on January 21, 2003 by The Postal Service
The tracks were recorded in early 2002, and were written by Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello

i know what you mean, it's unbelevievably annoying.
but if you were a professional musician you'd kind of have to, unless you wanted to seem like a prick.
