I salute you for understanding that people need to be involved in government. You are correct. But people ALSO have a responsibility to UNDERSTAND the system of government we have in this country (something Michael Moore evidently fails to understand himself). We are a representative republic, and we elect people to represent our views and support the U.S. Constitution.
@RoPaul69 The problem is that we, the people, are NOT voting for the people who get into office but, for the people who financed their campaigns. Are you aware that Goldman Sachs financed both MaCain's and Obama's campaign? That is why no one will go to jail over the most recent bank scandal whereby 800 BILLION dollars was stolen from US taxpayers. Watch Zeitgeist sometime. LEARN from it. You will NEVER look at things the same way again.
Tonya - I just watched your video...and I certainly hope that you investigated a lot more into the misinformation which Michael Moore put into his movie. When you watch anything Moore has produced, please keep in mind that he is a skilled movie producer with a leftist agenda. Cuba does NOT have superior health care. The "facts" Moore uses to support his film are incomplete and do NOT come from trustworthy sources.
I'm glad that the video opened your eyes. The world is not what it used to be. Unfortunately, not too many can see it because most are watching TV being entertained instead of getting informed. My daughter had cancer when she was a baby and thank God that we are in Canada. She received the best of care from Sick Children Hospital in Toronto and is now cancer free.
You got to understand that the US people are the most pussies & scary asses in the world! France & other countries poeple get what they want because they stand up to the corrupted governments & fight hard and they win. The goverments are scare of the people! US peeps are pussies cause we let the government control us like robots & slowly take what ever freedom we have left! We are worst than England now than before the pilgrims arrival to the US... Pussies pussies Pussies! lol...
@LALOMAN18 no actually it'sbecause the us is capitalist and selfish and over-masculated. Countries with good health care respect one another in everyway and are socialist. Wich means fundamental health care for everyone and respect for women when it comes to mysogenist lyrics in music so we don't play it. We respect other races and cultures. The US only cares about power. the us sees that power from lieing cheating bullying and violence. Also the us people are very uneducated just turn the tv on
Communism was very popular here in the US during the 1960's. There was universal health care and FREE yes FREE college for all! What happened? the US started to look communist and since the government had to pay for it they didn't want to anymore & there excuse was that Communism is BAD! lol...
Why we can't get free health care? Its because Nixon and kaiser permanente created a sneaky bill that would put power to the health care insurances to charge what ever the fuck they want. So long Universal health care. Its all about greed and thats why the US is falling down on its own impire of greed! We are now the weakest link arround the world. straight to bankrupt!
Communism is good... "share the wealth & you will have Free universal health care". Examp... Cuba! France etc....
It's just good vs evil. Money and greed. Anyone in polotics, besides Ron Paul, is fuckin evil ma thats it. We need a war....here! yes and the fed reserve, we fought a war in 1812 against the same "idea"(slavery, be it debt or labor) but in 1913 the Fed was re-enacted and the income tax was IMPOSED on us to pay the interest we'd now owe to a private foreign run bank mob.
Property tax is an interesting subject too. We pay it to the foreign banks that bailed us out of the depression. Buy guns!!
you don't need a player on your site to sheir this fed, you can just embed this video, so they'll see a small YouTube vid, don't know if they can select full screen, however here is the message important, not graphics. Just google HOW you can embed this vid, there is a code for it. Bless ! [for the sneeze and the message].
that was almost disturning, i mean good manners and hygiene, nothing wrong with, but remember kids play outside all day, touching the ground, touching objects hundreds have touched, and rarely get sick.
I don't know about Miichael Moore, but maybe there's some fiction in his truth, and some truth in his fiction. Not a fun of him though.
Populist propaganda always has a big-guy-vs-little-guy motif. It's always as though Wally Wall-Street wants to take his bag of gold coins and crack our skulls with it. What is interesting about the health debacle is, we are already encouraging and importing doctors and nurses at record rates, and yet Moore (Obama) advocates making health free to the consumer, adding 57 million people to the mix, ignores the obvious supply/demand problem that creates, and denies there will be rationing.
Michael Moore films are pretty much always a study in propaganda. In "Roger & Me," Moore explains how big car companies are stinking rich and honest-joe union workers are always getting screwed and entire towns like Flint, Michigan are getting emptied out because car bosses are mean and greedy. In "Fahrenheit 9/11," Moore tells us that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden were wide-eyed, innocent brown-guy patsies, and the real bad guys had names like Texaco, Halliburton, Bush, and Cheney.
Even when the Muslim terrorists are, well, terrorizing, there's always a pat explanation: we Americans create terrorists by being where we don't belong, which is kind of interesting considering that our military has forces in 130 countries. Or, we send the CIA, hire and train these dudes, then abandon and alienate them. (Wasn't that one of the Jason Bourne movies?) In "Bowling for Columbine," Moore posits that kids shoot up their schools because guns are too easy to get.
our health care is not "taken care of" because we ARE democratic. drug companies get rich because they take HUGE RISKS and dump LARGE SUMS OF MONEY into extremely unstable ventures like producing a new drug that may cure an ailment that is now incurable. DRUGS DON'T MATERIALIZE OUT OF THIN AIR. and what happens after socialized health care? what about the free market? what about democracy?
I loved this movie. It completely blew a huge hole in neoliberal/neoconservative/right-libertarian arguments against nationalized healthcare. Including that annoying ass "people in Canada wait 10,000 years for surgery" and "you have to have a 7 month investigation by bureaucrats before you can be treated" lie.
Right-wingers would be hilarious if they weren't so dangerous. Thousands of people die over their stupidity and ideological hidebound zealotry.
Im racist against all micheal more supporters no matter what color they are. Seriously she basing her views on the other western healthcare systems BASED ON A FUCKING MICHEAL MORE DOCUCRAPMENTARY. How can you not laugh at her ignorance?
The Canadian part is pure bullshit. Nobody is refused a place on the lists, they just die before their turn is up. Im Canadian so dont even think about arguing. Micheal Moore is a demagogue. If you buy that cheap BS, its because your dumb and probably poor. Thank you.
a system that consumes the very people it should be helping...a system where doctors can be selectively discrimitative towards reimbursment options btw various health plans....it drives profit margins but dosent provide better quality care....its why certains hospitals fail and others flourish when the populations they serve dont have favorable revenue mix...most expensive health system unilaterally is the least efficient..........
When I was pregnant i went to the ER 4x and they dismissed me b/c it wasn't "severe" and i didn't have the $150 to pay for each private doctor visit, i went to Cuba and was diagnosed w/ severe problems that coud've affected my child, I only weigh 103lbs being 4mth pregnant,(I weigh 135 b/f getting pregnant). all the medical treatment was free and I did not go to the tourist Hospitals, treatment was execptional even though the Hospital was neglected the attention and treatment weren't.
So are u saying that just bc you live in the US, the healthcare system is perfect? Please dont speak so foolish. 75% of the goods in ur home that u buy are non-American made. Does that make u anti-american? Think about what u say b4 spitting off super patriot rhetoric
We are the US of A! Name one country better! If you feel that you can find something better...by all means leave!!!!! How f'ing selfish can you possibly be!
Poll after poll in the US shows that the majority of Americans are in favor of having a single-payer government sponsored health care system, just as they have in every other industrialized country in the world. Leaders in both major political parties are opposed to this, including both major party former presidential candidates McCain and Obama. Nader and McKinney support the wishes of the majority of Americans. If we had a functioning democracy, Obama would support this too, but he does not..
In America-HEALTH is PROFIT, and that's because you're the worst republic in the whole world. You are spreading "democracy","human rights",and people are dying on your streets because they don't have money for basic health care!So ironic, like your own existence...
How many people die in your country every month because of your idea HEALTH=PROFIT?It is sad...
There are things that money cant buy...Human life, at first place. You don't seem to know real meaning of word "morality" and "life"...
Correction. Nader was the only candidate for single payer health care. Obama and McCain were against it and still are. By keeping the solution alive, Nader deserves a medal.
Private health insurance is a private tyranny that only exists in United States. It's a rather barbaric system that tells you you're health is only worth what you can afford.
People in United States should get behind, and support, HR 676. If you don't know what it is learn about it! GM & Ford are going bankrupt because of the rising cost of health care. If United States had single-payer system, the companies wouldn't have to worry about it.
but my best guess is that a couple of "free market" enthusiasts didn't want to engage my position on universal health care in a meaningful and substantive manner.
The truth is that a single payer system would actually help companies doing business in the United States.
Belgium has the best health care system in the entire world you can bet your life on that! Not only do you get the money back from your co-pay but you also get money back on your medications!
I think we in Britain should thank our lucky stars that we have the NHS, I'm tired about people badmouthing the NHS when it was such a good invention from our 1960 Labour government. We here in Britain take the NHS for granted - At least I haven't ever thought bad of teh NHS...
Hey Miss T - I care about health care, too. As someone who had been a professional but became a low-wage worker after an injury, I found out that the lowest paid people are at way higher risk for injury and illness and have the least means to care for themselves. When an epidemic ignores class lines, let the complacent rich split hairs about how we pay for universal coverage. We can expand it once we have it, but if we debate every angle of it, we will never get it period.
i watched this film today. It was infureating. I find myself thinking, with the greed corps blocking our every move to do something good for all of us, and the massive ignorance of people who only take the tv's word for things ( i do include my own grose ignorance) Well, i wonder if this is even fixable. i think should i stay and fight or cut and run?Im gonna try to fight but Im going to get me and the kid's passports also. Norway seems nice.
Obama has rejected single payer health care for all. He is in the pocket of the insurance industry. Ralph Nader is not. If you need to be lied to, enjoy it.
Nader has the same chance of passing a single payer health care system as he has of being elected President. All he's done is undermine candidates who would move us in the right direction for the last 3or4 decades.
I share your frustration with our government's misguided and destructive use of resources. SICKO is really wrenching, and brings out good points about the misbehavior of the insurance companies, but there are other ways to provide more access to better healthcare. Will there be homebirth? Or prevention? And it will be sad-- national healthcare will subsidize drugs to the tune of thousands of dollars a year, but if you need supplements/massage, you'll be out of luck.
the U.S.A is NOT the greatest anythng ANYWHERE-never was!it started by killing and stealing frm the NativeBrother[thanks4giving],
stealing blacks from Africa, enslaving us into building AMERICA and whatsup with th statue of Liberty?conspicuously left out of the praises that black people sing about their
"AMERICA The Beautiful"! perhaps King Obama will bring a drop a truth to tht phrase...
yes,Canada is wonderful-except where th cultural arts is concerned.Jews here say ZERO for th black artist.
Nader has some ideally better ideas, but in this election, after Bush has shredded the economy, exhausted the military, weakened the checks and balances that protect us from despotism, and brought the US into hatred and contempt in the rest of the world---
Obama is the one to vote for.
The need to protect ourselves from McCain's tax-cuts for the rich, ignorant, and power-abusing VP Sarah Palin is so great that even REAGAN appointee Charles Fried has voted for Obama!
and i hope that when you speak about war over seas your talking about your messed up government, because as all americans know Canadians dont support war, we send our guys over to fix your governments mistakes, and as for the criminals i know your deff talking about the states seeing we have a low crime rate in canada, maybe if your government would make guns illegal you wouldnt have as much crime, in the end what im trying to say is michael moore speaks the truth americans dont wanna hear
Gun control is good. But Moore makes a compelling case that ending poverty makes a bigger difference in reducing crime in "Bowling For Columbine", another must see movie by Michael Moore. "Farenheit 911" also.
I'm Canadian and live in the USA now but was raised in Canada the health care system in the USA is brutal, the system in Canada doesnt have long lines like ur all saying, we never pay a cent for anything, as for you guys having more doctors than canada have you ever thought its because ur population of the USA is far more larger than canada? Canada has more than enough doctors, we have to many actually, maybe you should read a bit more before you discuss foriegn health care
Im sorry TonyaTKO, but you are LATE with this video. I saw SICKO last year and I was trying to get people for Dennis Kuchinich would have implemented a single payer health care system similar to other developed nations, but most likely better.
Neither one of the candidates supports a health care system that pushes out the private health care insurance companies.
just wait till the RFID chip come out.and it will come out... YOU DONT HAVE A CHOICE IN THIS MATTER..(look at your passport if ya dont belive me). if you talk your trash.. they just turn off your chip. and tanya gets TKO'd
M.J. said it best... "all i wana say is they dont really care about us!"...
did you know 100% of the united states is BELOW sea level. and that is why we have a NAVAL court system.. hence the " birth canal"
your not a person. your a PRODUCT... thats why you have a Product ID number. i mean social security number. thats why when the goods come out, they come down the panama canal..i mean the birth canal.
ask your self. how many people will be OUT of WORK if they cure cancer?? ..JUST CANCER...
M I L L I O N S !!! that means BILLIONS in lost cash.. no TRILLIONS !!!

Good movie. Profit drives America, nothing else. Somehow we think that institutions care in America, but if you don't pay, you get nothing. Not even health care.
The problem is the insurance companies. Before existed health care was better & not as expensive. Universal healthcare in the U.S. would be costly because of the many illegal immigrants that would drain our economy & the individuals who choose not to take care of themselves. In addition look at our gov run agencies, they are not that great. The dmv. social security office etc isn't great. The paperwork & wait time would be phenomonal. Medicare & Medicaid is expensive & that is for a select few.
You don't know you are talking about. I am on social security and medicaid. The government is doing a great job taking care of my heatlh and dealing with my case.
I wish everyone had government managed health care.
I NEVER had to wait in some long line to see a docter and I only pay 50 cents for medication. I pay 3 dollars to see general docter.
Maybe where your located the lines are better but unfortunately that is not everywhere. As for the expense. I am not saying it is expensive for the people on medicare it is expensive for the state. The cost which will be paid by taxpayers. If more people were added, then our taxes will increase, they are not going to eat those charges. My resources for Medicaid and Medicare is from "American and Texas Government" by Neal Tannahill.
So sycjoe, you whether give $300 a month of your money to private insurance company than then just pay that amount in extra tax and have the government send it directly to your docter?
You have to pay one way or the other. People scream that they don't want to pay higher taxes while forgeting that the higher taxes will negated by the fact that you no longer have to pay premiums and co payments to your docter and insurance company.
Private insurance(middle man) does not work for free.
I have insurance with my employer. I don't pay anything for my medical insurance. The copay is taken from my pre-tax money put in a flexible pay account. Also when I did have my own insurance I only paid around $150. I also got the care I needed. I have severe allergies so I tend to go to the doctor often. I rather have the $5000 credit put in my pocket instead, which is what Mccain offered. I am also not a favorite of insurance companies.
Most of the money but not all. We also fund many other things that I don't agree with. I also have no issue with funding people with disabilities. It's the individuals who don't have disabilities that choose to take advantage of the system and individuals who choose to indulge in risky behavior know the consequences of their actions that I have a problem with.
When was the last time you tried to get healthcare without insurance? and illegal immigrants didn't ruin our economy and it won't be fixed by making them leave. That's what the politicians and the corporations they serve would like you to think so you won't notice that THEY did it.
I would also like to add, that most of us that work hard to survive are not getting a check in the mail from the goverment and are not happy with the chunk already taken out. Do you really think if everyone had things for free, the time you wait in line would be speedy. There would be more people in those lines. Things would not be the same.
America is much different than Canada. We have FAR MORE doctors here than canada does. There would not be long lines.
Plus we could focus on preventive health care cut in people needing to see a doctor.
I wish everyone could recieve medicaid and medicare
Truth be told, sometimes people being afraid of health care cost delay seeing a doctor making the illness worse and then they end having to see a doctor much worse.
Sometimes cutting cost here and there leads to BIGGER cost latter on.
We may have far more doctors but we have far more people and our doctors are overworked. Getting in an appointment is a pain and the office hours are not usually reasonable. People have to take off to go to the doctor. One time my allergist was booked one month ahead. I would not like to see how it would be if everyone could go. Maybe it's because I am in a major city. I do agree people should not wait until their are on the verge of death to take care of themselves.
Each working citizen makes National Insurance contributions for state pension/unemployment benefits etc, a portion of this goes to NHS. I pay...sorry they TAKE 9% of my salary each month.
It's not perfect and as a result a two tier system has emerged where some people choose to get private health care to avoid the long waiting list, restrictions on some drugs etc.
My friends in Canada and Whales told me that their government is looking to make their healthcare system like ours. They say thier governments are having problems supporting the universal healthcare.
Tonyo how would you feel if i came knocking on your door asking for money because i ate burgers and fries all my life and now i have a health problem?
Or how about a guy who has a habit of having sex with prostitutes and now his luck has run out and he has an STD. Do you want to pay for his treatment? Of course Mr.Moore is going to show you the worst cases to tug on your heart strings and get you to fall for this junk.
Would you want the Gov taking money away from you to help out these ppl?
I watched SICKO and it got me pissed. The prisoners we got held in Cuba get better treatment than the average or below average citizens here... I think the reason that U.H.C. will never EVER work here is because there are way too many lobbiests. I'd pay extra tax for it because my paychecks are being deducted anyway and that's without the certainty of treatment. I wanna move to France!!
im in france and planning to settle down here.. i guess the language is the only thing that gets to me.. otherwise this place rocks.. especially the hospitals!
As a healthcare worker in the USA I see ppl admitted to the hospital who are discharged after minimum treatment due to lack of health insurance, and then ppl who are given every test under the sun, when its not needed, because they have good health insurance. Some Doctors when asked to consult on a case, will first ask, "what health insurance do they have?" By the way, I'm glad you are feeling better.
Yes it is. I was raised in england, and you do not have to worry about being ill no matter who you are or how long you have been in the country. I watched this movie and was truly appauled. Especially when ppl from the NYC 9/11 incident had to go to Cuba to get help for their health issues after helping their fellow citizens in a time of need. They got excellent care at no cost, that they couldn't get in the US.
i live in the uk! but i am from albanian when i lived in albanian my grand was soo sick and she payed so much to go to the hospital, i was too young to understand and she died becouse they dident give her inuff medicent and when i came to the uk when i was 5 my mum had kidney problems and they dient charge her a penny! she gose there everytime! and no money is wasted! and when i came or get check up i have no problem we evan get free injections at skwl so we dont catch a disese.
AND THEY ONLY THING BAD ABOUT it is that there is a big waiting list thats it but too many old peoplke complain about it!!! i dont i get mine for free!!!
I never got to go see it. I might move to canada if I dont move to NC in a few years. My relatives are from cananda and they tell me that health care is a lot better then america.
Interesting that you bring up fire departments. Think of how it was in NYC in the 19th century when you had to pay them out of your own pocket to put out a fire, and if you didn't, they would let your house burn down. A good analogy of how health care works today.
u know! a lot of people were in denile about the movie. now as for the federal reserve EXECUTIVE ORDER 11110 WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITHIN 48 HRS. THE FEDERAL RESERVE IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL BUT MOST PEOPLE KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT IT. TKO WAIT TILL U FIND OUT HOW DEEP THE RABBIT HOLE GOES UR IN FOR A HELL OF AN AWAKENING. HOLLA BACK. LOL
I wanted to see it because I kept hearing how informative it is . Michael Moore tells it like it is. I want to see that new one about religion where Bill Maure is the host.
That's a good documentary. I saw it a few months ago online, and it was kind of sickening. Anyway, though I do support it, I'm not complety sure if an NHS will work for this counrty at the moment. However, I truely believe that insurance companies need to be held responsible for making horrible denials. I don't get how thousands of dollars can be taken from our hard earned money each year, then we get denied coverage for something that could be life saving. They get paid to deny. That's just murder
check out naomi wolfs - liberty video interview and look on cspan and check out the proposal to impeach president Bush. They dont address healthcare directly but they do speak to how this supposed democracy is already a socialist society. We're in bad shape, I think Obama's plan will help. Its not natl healthcare but its a start.
We are the "government". We pay taxes (and fees) for the school system, infrastructure, politicians, medicaid and medicare, social security, and etc. You and I. We pay for these services.
I don't like michael moore. I agree with angryamerican, he doesn't make fair documentaries. The first movie I saw of his was "911" but then I watched a few others including one he did a few years ago when his views were different. The things that he was against now and for then, you can totally tell he 'doctored' and misquoted people and the clips he used to be in favor of how he feels at the time. I saw a film some1 did on Michael Moore and it just showed him as a big fat ass hypocrite.
I live in Canada and I was in grade 8 or grade 7 when I watched it. I was horrified, its sad and I wish they do something about it... Like health care is the most important thing ever, I don't understand why they egnored it.
I think the movie was good. I also think it would be nice to have universal health care, but NOT right now! Our economy is so bad right now, we can't afford to pay for everyone's health care right now. After we get the deficit under control; UHC would be AWESOME!
First a NHS is not "FREE" you are going to pay for it in taxes.
Second what Sicko did not tell is the long lines waiting for healthcare, the healthcare lotteries that some of their citizens play to get a chance to see the doctor. The plethora of Private practices that have opened illegally because of long doctor wait times.
The Fact that architect of their NHS opened his own private practices and that its bankrupting the country.
The U.S. is a republic not a democracy. We are the BEST country in the world. Universal healthcare is not what its cracked up to be. Do research on Canada, France, and Bahamas to start. When I lived in the Bahamas, I was always told to go to Miami if I ever needed medical attention.
I watched it last year, and it was absolutely shocking. It's difficult to believe that our country is taking worse care of it's citizens than countries that we consider lesser.
you were wondering why we don't have people that represent us in government, why we have people there who don't live like us or look like us. The reason why is simple: we don't live under a democracy. There never really was a democracy in the US. What we live under is an oligarchy: rule by elite, not rule by the people. The fact that most Americans don't know that is one of the main reasons why things are the way they are here, since people don't know what they are dealing with.
cnt... to get all the medical care they need in life threatening or serious situations...
we often hear about right for life... yes, we all have right for life and we all contribute to society somehow... so we have right to get at least the basic medical care.
while I am not for healthcare bills covering flu medicines, etc. I think there should be some sort of coverage for serious illness. Noone can predict if they will develop cancer or some incurable illness and I think everybody should be taken care of in such case... I think our (czech) system is kinda good... the employee (or in case of youngsters and unemployed) the government) pays the insurance for everybody. Sure it has some flaws, but everybody deserves... cnt.
It can be truthfully said that it is the business of a volunteer fire department to save lives and not to make money, because these noble souls do not make money and many firefighters start out as volunteers.
I have lived in towns with volunteer fire departments and with paid men, and believe me, I slept better knowing that the men who were guarding the town were very well-paid and well-trained; and I urge any town with a volunteer fire department to go to a paid system.
Remember, the populist will always identify the mark (a businessman, an executive, an investor, a landlord, etc.) and try to convince us that this man doesn't deserve his wages. It will always be an uphill battle to counter this simple but flawed argument because it is presumed the majority will favor the poor by denigrating the rich in the same way we don't kick puppies or make fun of crippled children. Thus the word populist. It is popular to mock the wealthy and talented.
I've seen it and honestly, it made me want to relocate. I didn't want to watch it at first b/c everyone told me that it was sad but a true eye opener. However, I'm glad that I did watch it b/c it does show the TRUTH about healthcare in America.

Buy guns!!

"i tought i was gonna sneez"
that was funny
"i hate to spread germs"
that was almost disturning, i mean good manners and hygiene, nothing wrong with, but remember kids play outside all day, touching the ground, touching objects hundreds have touched, and rarely get sick.

What is interesting about the health debacle is, we are already encouraging and importing doctors and nurses at record rates, and yet Moore (Obama) advocates making health free to the consumer, adding 57 million people to the mix, ignores the obvious supply/demand problem that creates, and denies there will be rationing.
jessemckay 2 years ago
Michael Moore films are pretty much always a study in propaganda. In "Roger & Me," Moore explains how big car companies are stinking rich and honest-joe union workers are always getting screwed and entire towns like Flint, Michigan are getting emptied out because car bosses are mean and greedy. In "Fahrenheit 9/11," Moore tells us that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden were wide-eyed, innocent brown-guy patsies, and the real bad guys had names like Texaco, Halliburton, Bush, and Cheney.
jessemckay 2 years ago

Thousands of people die over their stupidity and ideological hidebound zealotry.

a system that consumes the very people it should be helping...a system where doctors can be selectively discrimitative towards reimbursment options btw various health plans....it drives profit margins but dosent provide better quality care....its why certains hospitals fail and others flourish when the populations they serve dont have favorable revenue mix...most expensive health system unilaterally is the least efficient..........

One payer system is the only way to go.

Obama has rejected single payer health care for all. He is in the pocket of the insurance industry. Ralph Nader is not. If you need to be lied to, enjoy it.

Nader has the same chance of passing a single payer health care system as he has of being elected President. All he's done is undermine candidates who would move us in the right direction for the last 3or4 decades.
prakaklef 3 years ago
I share your frustration with our government's misguided and destructive use of resources. SICKO is really wrenching, and brings out good points about the misbehavior of the insurance companies, but there are other ways to provide more access to better healthcare. Will there be homebirth? Or prevention? And it will be sad-- national healthcare will subsidize drugs to the tune of thousands of dollars a year, but if you need supplements/massage, you'll be out of luck.

Good movie. Profit drives America, nothing else. Somehow we think that institutions care in America, but if you don't pay, you get nothing. Not even health care.
Decapoe 3 years ago
The problem is the insurance companies. Before existed health care was better & not as expensive. Universal healthcare in the U.S. would be costly because of the many illegal immigrants that would drain our economy & the individuals who choose not to take care of themselves. In addition look at our gov run agencies, they are not that great. The dmv. social security office etc isn't great. The paperwork & wait time would be phenomonal. Medicare & Medicaid is expensive & that is for a select few.
sycjoe 3 years ago
You don't know you are talking about. I am on social security and medicaid. The government is doing a great job taking care of my heatlh and dealing with my case.
I wish everyone had government managed health care.
I NEVER had to wait in some long line to see a docter and I only pay 50 cents for medication. I pay 3 dollars to see general docter.
rydar1978 3 years ago 2
Maybe where your located the lines are better but unfortunately that is not everywhere. As for the expense. I am not saying it is expensive for the people on medicare it is expensive for the state. The cost which will be paid by taxpayers. If more people were added, then our taxes will increase, they are not going to eat those charges. My resources for Medicaid and Medicare is from "American and Texas Government" by Neal Tannahill.
sycjoe 3 years ago
So sycjoe, you whether give $300 a month of your money to private insurance company than then just pay that amount in extra tax and have the government send it directly to your docter?
You have to pay one way or the other. People scream that they don't want to pay higher taxes while forgeting that the higher taxes will negated by the fact that you no longer have to pay premiums and co payments to your docter and insurance company.
Private insurance(middle man) does not work for free.
rydar1978 3 years ago
I have insurance with my employer. I don't pay anything for my medical insurance. The copay is taken from my pre-tax money put in a flexible pay account. Also when I did have my own insurance I only paid around $150. I also got the care I needed. I have severe allergies so I tend to go to the doctor often. I rather have the $5000 credit put in my pocket instead, which is what Mccain offered. I am also not a favorite of insurance companies.
sycjoe 3 years ago
Most of your taxes are sent over seas to wage an illegal war and spent on criminal who break the law then on people with disabilities.
rydar1978 3 years ago
Most of the money but not all. We also fund many other things that I don't agree with. I also have no issue with funding people with disabilities. It's the individuals who don't have disabilities that choose to take advantage of the system and individuals who choose to indulge in risky behavior know the consequences of their actions that I have a problem with.
sycjoe 3 years ago
When was the last time you tried to get healthcare without insurance? and illegal immigrants didn't ruin our economy and it won't be fixed by making them leave. That's what the politicians and the corporations they serve would like you to think so you won't notice that THEY did it.

The Fed is an interesting entity in America that most folks don't think about.
syckindahead 3 years ago
Speak for yourself, I get a check each month from the fed. I love them.
rydar1978 3 years ago
I would also like to add, that most of us that work hard to survive are not getting a check in the mail from the goverment and are not happy with the chunk already taken out. Do you really think if everyone had things for free, the time you wait in line would be speedy. There would be more people in those lines. Things would not be the same.
sycjoe 3 years ago
America is much different than Canada. We have FAR MORE doctors here than canada does. There would not be long lines.
Plus we could focus on preventive health care cut in people needing to see a doctor.
I wish everyone could recieve medicaid and medicare
Truth be told, sometimes people being afraid of health care cost delay seeing a doctor making the illness worse and then they end having to see a doctor much worse.
Sometimes cutting cost here and there leads to BIGGER cost latter on.
rydar1978 3 years ago
We may have far more doctors but we have far more people and our doctors are overworked. Getting in an appointment is a pain and the office hours are not usually reasonable. People have to take off to go to the doctor. One time my allergist was booked one month ahead. I would not like to see how it would be if everyone could go. Maybe it's because I am in a major city. I do agree people should not wait until their are on the verge of death to take care of themselves.

Hey Tonya,

Michael Moore does not make fair "documentaries" with pros and cons of the issue.
In Canada and Britain their are MONTH long wait periods to see Doctors.
Here is a real story of an Ontario man who had a BRAIN TUMOR and he was told he had to wait MONTHS before he could receive care in Canada.
He came to AMERICA and had the operation done:

Socialized healthcare wouldn't work in this country.

I think the movie was good. I also think it would be nice to have universal health care, but NOT right now! Our economy is so bad right now, we can't afford to pay for everyone's health care right now. After we get the deficit under control; UHC would be AWESOME!

It doesn't say where they stand on healthcare, education, labor, equal rights, energy, taxes, the environment or abortion.
Other than that it's very informative.

DO some research into Universal Health care, like tonya said it is not what it is cracked up to be.

I saw it a few weeks ago. It was kinda scary.

The long lines myth has been debunked more times than a McCain/Palin attack speach.

The U.S. is a republic not a democracy. We are the BEST country in the world. Universal healthcare is not what its cracked up to be. Do research on Canada, France, and Bahamas to start. When I lived in the Bahamas, I was always told to go to Miami if I ever needed medical attention.

Well really we are a hybrid democratic-republic but that is just splitting hairs.

na i've never seen it..

This is why I support Barrack Obama.

Barack doesn't support NHS.
cutedude22 3 years ago
That's the one thing I really liked about Hilary over Obama. She wanted to work us towards a NHS.

It's a step in the right direction and can get done quicker.

Of course, the government runs the public school system, the goal is conformity, and as a side effect, functional stupidity
Haven't seen the movie, experienced it personally

cnt... to get all the medical care they need in life threatening or serious situations...
we often hear about right for life... yes, we all have right for life and we all contribute to society somehow... so we have right to get at least the basic medical care.

interesting comment.
while I am not for healthcare bills covering flu medicines, etc. Sure it has some flaws, but everybody deserves... cnt.

It's unbelievable. You guys need a NHS or something similar

Healthcare is a business and the purpose of a business is to make money not save lives
jsphbjmn 3 years ago 2
