I'm looking for a device that plays and records video on the computer (Such as Cable, stuff I recorded on a VCR, and even gameplay footage from game console) I don't plan on playing the games on the computer, just record them, but would be cool to have my cable hooked up the the computer and watch and record shows and stuff...even picking up Cable signals would be nice. Also something easy to set and use, and doesn't slow the computer down in Windows 7. I can't figure out what is best to get.
the best solution for playing multiple video/audio formats on your pc, isn't to download a player like KM or VLC. It just better to install a codec package. That way you can have something that just integrates within you system. K-Lite is nice, CCCP is also solid, but I fine Shark007 to be the best. It has a really easy interface. KM Player is a disaster, It consistently crashes, and when you uninstall it, it breaks ALL of your codecs, nothing works afterwords.
Now that Power DVD 10 will play most MKV files, it is the best media player software, it has by far the best picture and audio quality. True Cinema feature makes even AVI files look more vibrant than ever before. I use that, media player classic, or KMPlayer on a usual basis. I also use DivX web player 1.5 to stream megaupload links and watch other stuff. Now that Vidxden came out with a download app that streams video from download links, with the VLC player, I'm experimenting with that. Cool?
I have Power DVD 11, (basically same as 10) ad Arcsoft Total Media Player 5, they both constantly out perform VLC player with MKV files. They both offer a bit better picture than KM Player. Power DVD 11 removed individual tweaking controls. I mostly use Arcsoft. Arcsoft def wins if you're trying to stretch a full screen show, like the simpsons, or batman the animated series, into a widescreen, their "smart stretch" destroys. Stuff only ends up looking stretched on the very edges, which blends in
VLC Player doesn't ever seem to handle MKV very well, I always noticed white noise pixelation and freezing, and stuttering, where other sofwares play my files just fine. Lots of luck smart ass!
@RogerBarrettLives i never had that problem VLC plays fine on system must be something wrong with computer maybe reinstalling it will help or upgrade to latest.
are you using VLC to watch MKV files daily? 7-20 GB files? h.246 and DTS audio? The player works fine, it just doesn't perform as well as other software do. Non the less, even if it worked without a hiccup, and never had pixelation, there is just no way that the audio is ever gonna sound as loud as it does in Arcsoft. Arcsoft has the best, loudest audio, and great pic quality and lots of settings. Arcsoft can stretch a fullscreen show to widescreen, and it looks awesome, vlc.. NO
Nope, sorry, I have good computers, arcsoft never crashes for me. I doubt you've used Power DVD 11, or Arcsoft 5, both up to date and current. You just talk shit and try to mislead people. I have VLC player too, along with Media Player Classic, and KM Player, ect. You sound like an A/V noob. I've uploaded and steamed mkv clips with DTS audio, in stereo or native 5.1 surround using the Divx Plus Web Player. I know what I'm talking about in regards to the capability of media players!
Just did a 1080p MKV shoot out... VLC vs Power DVD 11 vs Arcsoft 5. Software is maxed out with all the extras, and newest updates. Arcsoft mopped the floor with the rest, to be frank. The picture quality is unreal, you have full tweak-ability. Audio is incredibly realistic, picture quality is vibrant. Colors are a lot less drab, and not at all washed out looking. Accurate skin tones! No media software is perfect, but Arcsoft with the latest updates is best. Incredible audio and picture options!
if you think that KM player is good then try Mirillis Splash PRO HD (it dosn't have a lot of options but it makes 24FPS video look like 60FPS video which i like a lot)
Hey 3Dgameman, I purchased the Hauppauge wintv-hrv-850 today. I set it up but when I click on my live TV in windows media center, it gives me the error.."Video Error"...Files needed to display this video cannot be found or are not working correctly, please restart windows media center or restart the computer..
Have you heard of this? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appriciated.
@Tharicus i had the same problems and here is what i done.install all drivers and software for card, goto media center and setup tv imput by scanning for channels and let media center find the hardware, then update display drivers again for best playback results.(made a difference for some reason).
I Have an HP DVB-T TV Tuner card... will that worK? I tried to set it up several times according to the guide but never seemed to work.... oh by the way, I only use antenna and im in Ireland as of the moment.
actually i recently took off KM player, i loved it until it kept crashing on MPG clips..and MPG2 . Now ive found a player that plays everything..and that is SM player.
I have looked for a list of media formats that kmplayer can play to no avail. For me this is key!!! I do not want to have to install and use a piece of software to discover what it does. I was interested up 'til this point. I also could not find out what codecs/decoders were bundled.,if any.
My overall rating for this software (and I didn't even have to try it) is a 1 out of a possible 10... and that's just because I found some good reviews when I googled it.
Chris TV doesnt work cause the damn program wouldnt let me register it... i couldnt find the option anywhere. Beyond TV looks really good but it changes the color scheme with Windows 7 to Windows Basic, and it doesnt work with my tuner card. My card came with the software but the color scheme keeps changing when any tuner program is running in Windows 7... any thoughts? Thanks :)

hey, my account is pretty much about video games. So i wanted to make videos off my xbox 360 for tips and tricks of games. Have any suggestions what i could use to record my tv screen? thanks
Beyond TV is top rated along with Sage. My experience goes back to 8 years of Tivo, right up to HD, and three versions of Beyond TV, with Beyond Media. The BeyondTV program is nearly as good as Tivo, and in some ways a little better. The nice thing about building you own system is that you can fix it yourself. That is it, the rest of building your own system is not so great. They are noisy, hot, power hungry, and very expensive. It would cost a whole lot less to buy a Tivo with 3 years service.
a great free internet tv software is readon tv its free no crap channels either. movies, usa tv shows, adult lol and sopcast KM player is a pretty good player.
I just played around with KM Player and my TV Card and let me tell you - it was perfect. It has more options and customizations than any other player I've seen. And it's free.. You can't go wrong.
I've used VLC for a while now, and it was fine; I considered it the best. I just got KM player and it rocks even harder. One thing I didn't like about VLC is it's designed for streams (not so good for avi's, etc.) so it has no actual frame skip, where KM player does. From the look of the menus it has all of VLC's functions, including tv tuner support. You ROCK. Thanks so much!
I tried sagetv, but couldn't figure out to take tv snapshots, if there was indeed a tv snapshot feature.
That's basically what I'm looking for. Feel free to correct me and call me out on it, but I'm really looking for something to take screenshots from my tv tuner device.
i like media player classic for the fullscreen interface and scrolling volume but vlcs better for skipping and resyncing audio, from the screen shots KM doesnt look very good for music :S
I really like your videos, just found them today. I am subscribing! How would I make an audio library in KMPlayer? It says "this folder does not have a video file" when I try to add audio.
its codecs and they are like a video/sound language like us we speak english arabic and other languages. the codes are like avi, xdix, mp4 swf and other stuf
yea. VLC player is awesome i think its my default. And as for 720p /1080p media i like media player classic but some people hate it for some reason...it works well.
I got a Kworld PE310 DVB-T which has a High-Performance Philips chipset. Bundled software is average, does the job but Vista Ultimate is better. The IR is a little flaky too. But performance and picture quality is tops, and that's what matters most.
Wow, I was just about to ask about KMPlayer. I downloaded it a few days ago after seeing Desktop mode running, which looked awesome. Unfortunately, due to something in Vista (I forgot what it was called), Desktop view mode doesn't work.
can you do a review on the Nvidia GTX260? iv heard alot of ppl talking about the 280, and wanting a review, but id like to hear about the 260... is it any good? hopefully u can do a VR :P Thnx
hey, you normally only do ati graphics card revies and the 4850 was released today. Can you do a review on the new 4850 and 4870 cards? Also, do you have any thoughts on the cards at the moment?
Well I use Media Player Classic 6,49 which don't need to be installed. Just have to download it, and then you can se anything by using it. Even High-Definition DVD's/Blu-Ray
I was wondering. Do you have a job, is this your hobby? Or, possibly, do you live of the products donated (lent?) to you? :o I'd like some clearing up on these questions.
its so weird hearing you say "hello my name is rodney reynolds" and not say "with another video review" but keep up the good work. by the way this was and excellent idea.
how should i contact you with a question (text response video or email?)
great reviews keep it up
oh and if you get the time i am looking into 2 motherboards the 790i and a intel x48 which one would you recommend? ( i would preferable like to run sli but i will settle for crossfire)
I really have more of a request than a question. The request is could you review the Antec 1200 case please? I was just wondering why you haven't as of now (unless I am just a moron who can't find it). I noticed some people have posted comments on your Antec 900 review vid and asked you to review the 1200. If you can't review it the could you give some feedback about the case. What you may have heard about it and whether you belive that it is a nice case.
I've had sooooo many requests for me to VR this case. I contacted Antec and the said they will try and get me on for review. So All I can do is wait until they send me one for review.
Cool vid thanks, and yes I agree about a good overclocking tutorial. I have 3 systems I'd love to overclock, but don't want to risk burning anything out.
I'd like to know more about overclocking. I've seen your tutorial but I can't seem to find a reliable source that explains the relationship between everything you are tweaking. FSB, Multiplier, Voltages. (and while we're at it, how do you tell when a voltage is safe and what will happen if it is not safe when you boot?)
Hey 3GM i have a question, My motherboard supports upto 8gb of ram, i have installed 4GB and in the bios it only detects 3072MB, However in Vista 64Bit it detects 4GB. Is there something wrong with my computer.
I'm looking for a device that plays and records video on the computer (Such as Cable, stuff I recorded on a VCR, and even gameplay footage from game console) I don't plan on playing the games on the computer, just record them, but would be cool to have my cable hooked up the the computer and watch and record shows and stuff...even picking up Cable signals would be nice. i've read reviews, some said it worked flawlessly, some said it sucked horribly, but most said the latter
however i don't really want to watch tv with it, but instead, i want to know if i can connect my consoles to my computer and see if it works like a tv
again, i know nothing about this stuff, so excuse my ignorance!

So is KM player similar to VLC I'm assuming?
sirfatalx 3 years ago

What would you suggest for good quality audio headphones.

Well I use Media Player Classic 6,49 which don't need to be installed. Just have to download it, and then you can se anything by using it. Even High-Definition DVD's/Blu-Ray

I like this new series :)

You could try Leadtek WinTV 2 as well. I haven't tried it on other TV Tuners, but it is free and really good.
KMPlayer is a great player, but a more customizable one would be the long lasting Winamp.

KM Player and VLC player are the best.

Just gotta put another good media player here which is VLC. No codecs installed, it just works right out of the "box" and yes it is free.

I was wondering. Do you have a job, is this your hobby? Or, possibly, do you live of the products donated (lent?) to you? :o I'd like some clearing up on these questions.

I have 3 systems I'd love to overclock, but don't want to risk burning anything out.
chimera15 3 years ago
I'd like to know more about overclocking. I've seen your tutorial but I can't seem to find a reliable source that explains the relationship between everything you are tweaking. FSB, Multiplier, Voltages. (and while we're at it, how do you tell when a voltage is safe and what will happen if it is not safe when you boot?)

gonna go checkout kmplayer now, thanks.
