  • Sorry, but that´s not a member of pink floyd

  • one of the greats performances of this song with de unbieliever robert but IU don't understand why was down de stage....

  • Forgive my ignorance but who is Wyatt ? Thanks

  • @Fl0yDian86

    he was "soft machine"

after that solo in "Rock Bottom" un chef d'oeuvre

  • @Fl0yDian86 a live legend

  • Wonderful! And congratulations to the cello player !

  • when (and if) I am dying - would be good to hear this....xx

  • My God Caroline Dale is incredibly beautiful!

  • Amazing! Who came up with teaming these two legends together? Inspiring!

  • Not that David Gilmour isn't brilliant - but I was hoping to hear Robert Wyatt sing the whole song. We all know he can easily hit those high notes.

  • @BionikTuning It just so happens that he suffers a number of ailments- in case you haven't noticed he's in a wheelchair. He invited David to the concert, so clearly it isn't disrespect or failing to learn the lyrics or anything. Who gives a fuck whether or not he's reading from a sheet anyway? He sings it properly and that's all that matters at the end of the equation.

  • greatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • wyatt>gilmour, well honestly wyatt>99% musicians from british rock environment.

  • omg a 2006 video in widescreen =D

  • This is amazing!! I'm a new soft machine fan, I just heard of them earlier this year. It brought tears to my eyes!!! Davids voice never changes!!

  • this just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up - two legends blending together - true masters of the song - from RW's opening vocals then DG's guitar - rises head and shoulders above the riff-raff of today

  • I like how David Gilmour's solos are always fairly true to the original recording.

A lot of guitarists do solos so completely different to the studio recording the song is almost unrecognizable.

  • @at90percent he does the exact same thing in many live shows, this is a pretty well known riff/guitar solo so he knows the fans want it

  • Comment removed

  • @SRNF That's what I was saying. I said David Gilmours solos are ALWAYS true to the original. That means he does the same thing in every live show. It's a well known guitar riff, because it's what he did on the record. He knows enough to play it live too. Not every guitarist does this. Terry Kath, of Chicago, when he would play the famous guitar solo that everyone recognizes on 25 or 6 to 4 would play something completely different each time. Nothing like what was on the record.

  • @at90percent but he does not do that for all songs.

  • what is the black electric guitar? Gretsch?

  • @fendertwin777 yup it's a Gretsch :)

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • this is terrible, if you gonna cover atleast learn the words and dont sing from notes man...this is not a seninar

  • @KMD55X shut up dude, he was weakend by a 4 storage fall... do it with no legs left ... plus he is old

  • @koala381 i didnt ask for a history backup, i commented. if i want history i will do my own research.

  • @KMD55X just take some information before criticizing this man

  • so fucking awful its untrue,,,,

  • the cello girl gives me the biggest wood

  • Can anybody tell me how to get that high pitched acoustic guitar sound? It doesn't sound normal...awesome performance by gilmour as usual..

  • David Gilmour and Robert Wyatt are gears in a big beautiful machine.

  • If you don't rate Robert Wyatt get a lossless copy of Soft Machine (one) and pan the balance. He's playing and singing two different songs. He was 18-19 years old.

Amazingly talented fella.Must have been a huge influence on Mr Costello. :)

  • mygod this solo is awesome...it's not so perfect but his emotions filter through his guitar and the notes he touches. emotions and no technique: this is Music.

  • this was eally touching, David Gilmoure, he can afford it¡¡¡

  • Never disappoints with the solo..gives me chills!!

  • Robert Wyatt singings brings warmth and just fits well with the lyricism . It's great to hear Gilmour playing a pure BB King like sound without his psychadelic pedal rack. An overall great acoustic version.

  • ssssshhhhhh.....listen, then feel....... music is always friendly to tears...

  • The looks between Robert and Dave are the looks between two friends who have knoww each other for so long. The Soft Machine lived and lives for longer than one man was able to walk. Floyd owe their entire existance to TSF and noone knows it more than Dave G.

  • SHIPBUILDING

  • So hilarious that there are actually comments saying that Gilmour is more prolific and inventive than Wyatt... Might want to look into the history of both of their careers; you'll see that Wyatt has made more albums and has been related to more masterpieces of art than Gilmour has dreamed of.

  • @Clutnuckle Lets not get into these kind of discussions, as far as comparing the 2 goes or trying to find out who's better. Wayatt has always been the experimental and the artful innovator, while Gilmour is a soul man with an amazing sense of melody. They both have their appeal with music lovers. Fact remains, they were and will always be very good friends, from the times when Soft Machine and Pink Floyd shared the same stage in the late 60s.

  • @Roaltar Yeah sorry, that was a completely meaningless quarrel to bring up, the comparison was unnecessary on my part. I was probably just mad or something lol

  • @Clutnuckle It's all good:)

  • I find it funny that Robert Wyatt has to read the lyrics off of a piece of paper. This is obviously not such a big deal to him.

  • Fantastic!!!

    Thanks for uploading this xx

  • god bless 'em all! gave me so much joy!!!

    Eleven

  • There's a fine line between laughing and crying!

  • If only Soft Machine was more popular... I don't blame Wyatt for leaving when they decided to play instrumental music, his voice is still beautiful to this day. It's nice to see David Gilmour, an artist who is much more well known and respected than Wyatt, giving him some recognition. I'm just sad that Wyatt broke his legs, he wasn't too bad a drummer, either.

  • God Dammit that is awesome

  • I probably have listened to that song at least 10.000 times, pre-album versions, studio versions, live versions, learned every note of it on guitar, but it still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it!

  • Props to Kayorn for this. Immaculate.

  • When you add a legend like Wyatt to a legendary master piece like "comfortably Numb", I don't think there are words to describe what the out come will be........Thanks for posting this video, kayorn.

  • Caroline of Chello totally melts my heart man. Adorable is she!

  • Robert Wyatt?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • @dragaodosangue ..why that comment, you show yourself up as a complete and utter tit, with absolutely no knowledge of proper musical heritage...idiot.

  • good practice guys, now let's do it for real! lol! no but seriously that was the shit.

  • good practice guys, now let's do it for real! lol!

  • Just let me say this who ever plays or sings with David Gilmour is because that musician is a very talented person and Robert Wyatt is a very talented musician and person

  • @ppaury ...exactly....and an amazing rock drummer before the accident, soft machine was amazing

  • Da treffen sich zwei Titanen..... Was Robert Wyatt schon seit ca. 35 Jahren im Rollstuhl musikalisch leistet ist gigantisch. Jedes Album immer besser. Und David unglaublich bescheiden und hochmusikalisch, im Gegensatz zu diesem exzentrischen Selbstdarsteller an der Bassgitarre......... (P.F.)

  • awesome version-Robert Wyatt plays 'the doctor' perfectly...

  • such a moving performance.

  • The best version of this song EVER!!!

  • welcome robert thanks david for carry him with you

  • Robert Wyatt have his own style to sing it give to this song more tragic touch (and without Wyatt it was very tragic but now it's special I can't explain it ...) .

  • Robert Wyatt is one of the biggest artist of music history.

  • haha bashing R. Wyatt? Listen to Fictitious Sports by NIck Mason and Carla Bley and then we'll talk about this Genius. .. Dondestan, Shleep, Ruth is Stranger than Richard.. NOthing Can Stop Us.. Rock Bottom.. Matching Mole, Soft Machine.. Some people are lucky to make one good song.. this guy has been making good, legendary albums since the 60's.. so.. u know.. more respect! :P

  • Someone said it before, it is not about the speed, it is about the feel of it all ... Gilmour is a guitar god and no one has its sound signature or sound ...

  • i love roberts delivery in this video but i find it weird that hes not on stage with david.

  • GILMOUR, not Gilmore ... and DAVID, not Dave ;o)

  • very timid drummer

  • Robert Wyatt is amazing, another level, he is one of the best muscal genius ever, like for example, hermeto pasocual, another genius

  • I did'nt know Wyatt did this! I wish he was'nt trying to imitate Rodger Waters and did it with his charactoristic pixiesoto - it would have suited the song even better!

  • @bloodgy1 What is pixiesoto ?

  • MAGIQUE !!!

  • So amazing!

Robert, M° Michael with David together on stage in one of the best rock song of all time!

  • been a fan since the intro dude, nuf said

  • OMG Has anybody realized how 'fat' was david during that time? now he isn't , it's kinda weird...

anyway, besides the amazing guitar playing of Dave, i think this concert was not exactly one of his best...

  • A beautiful song, in all of its incarnations.

  • Robert Wyatt... Dude this is the thing!!!!

    Soft Machine Still Alive

  • Waters =/

  • Robert Wyatt is a legend, see soft machine and the "chef d'oeuvre" rock bottom ! and "shipbuilding" !!! comandantemurdock is right, learn/listen before talking..

  • people before talk think and study...robert wyatt is a music genius

  • I'm with Wyatt even if this is hard to watch. Comfortably Numb is a shitty song anyway when compared to Floyd in its prime or especially Soft Machine's material so I don't blame him for half-assing it.

  • @stupidstupidpeople Wow dude.....U really dunno nythng bout Music huh!!....If Comfortably Numb is shitty then it makes damn whole discographies of all the bands worthless!!!.....As for Soft Machine...They are gud but they seriously dun hav a song in their repertoire as gud as Comfortably Numb....So Jus shut the hell Up nd go Pick Up a DVD of Floyd tht actually works nd listen 2 MUSIC again!!!...Huh u got me all riled up ;)

  • @paranoidXeqtr If you really appreciated Pink Floyd I don't think you would hold a song like this in such high regard. Do you even own Piper at the gates of dawn? Ummagumma? Saucerful of secrets? Atom Heart Mother? Do you ever wonder where they would have taken the music if Syd had not gone insane?

  • @paranoidXeqtr Also, I don't know any true Floyd fans who can even like The Wall over a long period of time; it's pop, it's filler, the production feels like a cage around the music. I know what kind of Floyd fan you obviously are so I guess I leave it at that. You should really educate yourself before you try to talk like that to anyone who really understands music again.

  • @stupidstupidpeople I've been a DIE-HARD Floyd fan for 25 years and the Wall is my favorite album. You can't tell people what to like, man.

  • @SmokeyMcTrees you are right, I should not be forcing my opinions on others. I think all I really wanted to get across is that fans should embrace or at least have respect for the roots of the band before just diving into thier hits. As a die-hard fan I'm sure you must understand the frustration.

  • @stupidstupidpeople I absolutely do, ha-ha....more then once I have forced my friends to sit through 20 minutes bootlegs of "CAreful With That Axe" to demonstrate how PF did the whole "horror-rock" thing before anybody!

  • "the production feels like a cage around the music."

I think that's rather the point dude. I understand your frustration my man, my favourite Floyd song has got to be Fearless but we must not dismiss material simply because it has become successful or renowned. The Wall has many great moments but then no-one gives The Final Cut a fair shot in my view. Its cool, if someone likes Floyd, who cares what songs they like. In peace. @stupidstupidpeople

  • THIS IS SO GOOD!! damn!

  • @ronaldosucks1 That 'old bloke with the beard is one of the most infuential musicians that has ever lived. the guy is a genius.

but I agree ronaldo does suck.

  • Very special Gilmour is very surprising !

  • esto es poesia en cuanto a la musica, no se ingles pero creo que es lo mejor que hay tengo 44 años y se que es por muuuuuuucho mejor que los beatles para el que me quiera refutar

  • Watch the cello player's hand going... That's some first class skills!!!

Also, the strat indeed sounds better for the solo.

  • have to love Robert Wyatt ... if he isnt smoking on stage ... he is chewing while singing..what respect Gilmor has for this man.

  • david gilmour's voice sounds like new. his voice in this song reminds me of the ascent to heaven

  • sem comentários....tudo se resume a isso!

  • @SlimBoyArcadeFire Gilmour fills concerts waters doesnt, gilmour is god dipshit

  • dhronly

Well put. You can listen to Jeff Beck and he will put more emotion into a handful of notes than some can put into a double album.Listen to JB Blues

  • Gilmore is probably one the best living guitar players and perhaps one of the best that ever lived. People please realize its not the speed (although he has this) anyone can do that given enough time. Its the feeling, emotion and soul behind the music and arrangement of the guitar solos. No one does it better than Gilmore Nobody.

  • GILMOUR no gilmore!

  • GMAB Cant spell!

  • you are absolutely right..I am telling this to my friends all the time..music must be from the heart..

  • @dhronly -I completely agree with you. This is a matter of feelings in soul. May be maestro Mark Knopfler can do the equal "battle" of moods and colors. May be Vangelis, but this is a different story. Even Mr. Clapton can't compares with DG.

  • @mangione56 mark knopfler and david gilmour are the best, great tehnic, soul and a feeling!

  • @dhronly I dont care how you're judging whos best, automatically jimi is #1.

  • @superdude13666 BUT Gilmore is easly #2, lol

  • @dhronly

    Gilmour, not Gilmore

  • @dhronly So true, he is a legend!

  • @dhronly you damn right!

  • @dhronly je n'ai pas tout lu et je ne suis pas anglais.... mais évidemment Robert Wyatt est un génie et Rock Bottom est un chef d'oeuvre absolu

  • @dhronly You can't even spell the guitarist's last name yet you're willing to insist he's the best ever? That just adds to the weakness of your overall argument.

  • @dhronlyYes, This.

  • @dhronly Mark Tremonti who just won "Guitarist" greates solo poll stated "My favorite solos tend to focus mainly on feel and phrasing rather than technique. At the top of my list would be Gilmour's Comfortably Numb and Stevie Ray Vaughn's Lenny."

  • Robert is so off he's good - very good indeed!

  • Stop bringing down Robert Wyatt, the man is a musical monster probably one of the best musical genuises of our time. Gilmour respects Wyatt and Soft Machine, which is really great to see

  • You are so right :)

  • Totally agree Mickdog2112.

Robert Wyatt and Gilmour are classic musicians.. Something which is lacking in music nowadays..

  • gilmour for president!!

  • Mr. Gilmour is GOD.

  • I actually thought this was some better stuff of Robert's. A lot of stuff his very thick accent comes through very strong and, at least for me, is very distracting from whatever he's singing.

As far as the guy that said about learning the words, looks like they may have simply handed him a sheet and said will you sing with us? What is the context behind this session?

  • He is a dude from the days wen it truly was sex drugs and rock and roll he got shit faced jumped out a wind hence the wheels ,and he goes on for the love of making sound as for the paper he was a guest who didnt know the words but had the bollocks to get on stage and do it

  • Jeezus CAWTEXCAWTEX, must you show such little grasp of the whole musical landscape? The man is a legend, and not because he lacks anything but perhaps the desire to be a dedicated follower of fashion. If you choose to neglect his contributions, it is solely due to your taste in music. Historically, he is and always will be a member of a long lost group of musical visionaries determined to push the envelope and confront the established business norm of acceptance. You're a putz!

  • What a whiny-ass little punk. Thin-skinned are we? If music is that important to you, stop short changing yourself. Oh, and look up the word patronize in the dictionary Dumbo!!

  • Fyo: "patronize; verb - to behave in an offensively condescending manner toward". Have a look at your comments...what did you think 'patronize' meant? You really don't write very well either 'Dumbo'!

  • the song is very special thankyou very much.

  • Yes i agree it's a good song - don't think Robert Wyatt 'sings' it particularly well here though. Rhythm of his delivery is all over the place - like he's never heard it before.

  • oh right. sorry if i sounded a bit aggresive earlier..

  • I'm a big Robert Wyatt and Soft Machine fan, but I don't think this is one of Robert's better singing jobs -- as compared to his beautiful rendition of Biko or Elvis Costello's Shipbuilding. But I'm glad he's still performing and that David Gilmour and he have collaborated again. (Pink Floyd and Soft Machine often played together in the swinging 60s UK scene.)

  • robert wyatt was an important composer and played for soft machine and matching moles, he was an icon of the canterbury scene. however , in 1973, during a Gong's party, he fell out of the third floor window, and became paralysed from the waist down and subsequently uses a wheelchair. since that, pink floyd tried to support him in many ways, inviting him to sing on loads of gigs. people shouldn't forget the importance of this man to modern music

  • soft machine

  • Amo esta musica

  • makes me shiver;)

  • Love this! For all you complaining about the guitar and so on, what is wrong with doing something a bit different? How many times have we not heard the more bombastic version with a stratocaster? And Robert Wyatt is great! Look at his CV and you'll see how influential he's been. Saying he's lazy for having a sheet is just ignorant. He's developed stage fright and says it makes it hard to remember lyrics. By the way, he directed the Meltdown festival that year which this concert was a part of.

  • WTF! what guitar plays Gilmour? the electric

  • he plays his Gretsch....

    It's amazing.

    Didn't you know? :D

  • I love the song and on this occasion I also love the cellist

  • Robert Wyatt really puts a great feeling into this song!

    It's purely amazing!

check out my solo too please! :)

  • two beautiful voices :o)

  • This acoustic concert is the best. Gilmour is wonderful...

    Check our Comfortably Numb version!

  • this version rocks

  • iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii have become confortably numm

    amazing!!!!!!!!

  • Probably the best and the last of true musicians..They are passionate warm music makers..MR WYATT, MR GILMORE..True to the last note..

  • I can't hear shit!!! The audio is so friggin low. This is like eating a sandwich behind a glass window in front of a hungry person. Thanks for the tease. :-(

  • use an earphone

    that's what i'm doing

  • This was the reason I bought the David Gilmour DVD that included this. Nothing against Roger Waters., he is fantastic in his own right, but I prefer Robert Wyatts unique approach to vocals.

  • the purest music I have ever heard (Wyatt... I love him)

  • Why does the audio is so low???...Or is it a problem of my pc?

  • this song is amazing... is one of my favorites song of PF

  • Even though it's off their 2nd worst album?

  • Robert Wyatt is brilliant. If you don't belive me, get the album Rock Bottom

  • Or get Third by the Soft Machine

  • It is so sad to read some of these nit-picking comments below. They are ruthless and hostile towards people and their imperfection. But the beauty and wisdom of this performance lies just in its imperfection; it is in its weakness. Because we all are weak and imperfect. Think about it before you criticize.

  • Comment removed

  • @zmor68 that comment was beautiful........ *sniffs*....... so true

  • NISE!

  • umm ... that "mountainjack" is Robert Wyatt, one of the greatest rock musicians ever. but if you're using the word "random", you may be too young to know much.

  • i'm also "too young to know much", but i know the connection between wyatt and PF/gilmour... and i know enough to know that he is not "one of the greatest rock musicians ever"... quit being so pretensious, let the kid be retarded, and stop throwing the word "greatest" around so loosely

  • Right, good call, and I will resist throwing superlatives around so cavalierly. I should say, "I enjoy Wyatt; he has been quite instructive and inspirational to me personally". I do understand his lack of appeal to the younguns - he's a bit advanced in years. Still, hard to deny the goodness of Little Red Robin Hood (ask Radiohead - listen to The National Anthem).
