1) the two main actors suck monkey balls on acting (specially akira)

2) the story is told very lame, seemed too rushed to be turned into a devilman movie and made it more like a cheap drama

3) not very good service to the fans who read the manga

4) the fights look weir and sound weird (but that final part I admit was awesome)

but good thing both died instead of akira only (that's the best thing i liked about the movie)

1+2) you're right, it's almost always like this with japanese live action adaptations of animes and mangas and i've stopped caring and learned how to live with it when i watch it.

3) hardcore manga readers usually aren't pleased with anything if it's not like they've imagined.

4) that's the reason i liked this movie along with casshern, wierd fights and wierd sounding and looking ambience.

To be fair the 2004 movie is a very poor example of a job well done. It was also a massive disappointment to many Devilman fans around the world. However, I found it did have a few nice scenes in it too - but not enough to save it sadly. I do own a copy on DVD; and it is marginally better the second time around. But, I don't think I've seen any manga inspired 'live action' movie best the animé adaptations - EVER! Suggestions on a post card? ;-)

Azumi was good, though I've never seen the manga so I don't know how good of an adaptation it was....the fighting was awesome though, of course no surprise with Ryuhei Kitamura (of Versus fame) Directing it.

I think the live action Death Note movie had a better ending than the anime because there was no annoying Near or Mello, and even though L 'lost', he still won. Great plot twist.

The visuals are decent and it's cool to see DM and Satan actually throw down since it was never shown in the OVAs, but the hokey acting and lame music kinda sour it.

It's better if you hit the mute button and play some metal music. Like Nightwish or something.
