i was 16 when this happend..the year before i bought a system u jersey....i still have that jersey...i am still very sad over fignons death...he meant alot to me, i just ordered his book called (we were young and carefree).. rip fignon.
it was amazing to watch this live...I was hyped up for days afterwards..I still have my original on VHS and allow myself to watch once a year..in order to save the tape and to just remember this tour. I sill love the images and the music and it still inspires me to ride even now ...at the ripe old age of 47. Thanks for uploading this. Now I can watch it when ever I want.
Thank you for uploading. For me the 1989 Tour de France was the most exiting ever. I think that only the 1947 edition came close, because that one was also decided at the very last day. I miss this sort of racing. Attacks and no earplugs made it exiting to watch. Nowadays it has become to calculating and predictable.
Alot have knocked down the aBC coverage, but hey, you could still see that the '89 Tour was one of teh best in history with all the drama, speed, and surprise turnaround by Lemond. What music too huh? JOhn Tesch's greatest keyboard tunes.
It does suck butt that those dog fuckers at ABC and their terrible coverage of the greatest Tour EVER. I am still angry more than 20 year later. Sam Posey and Al Trautwig should be shot. These ABC bitches talk as if they have discovered the Tour de France for the first time, and are discussing it with the viewers as if they were children. Also Phil Liggett was rarely given a chance to speak about the Tour. That offended me most.
I love the Tour De France, and it really was because of Greg Lemonds victory in 1989. I remember going to the racetrack with my dad, and one of his work buddies was there and told us that Lemond made up the time in the Time Trial to win the Yellow Jersey. It really was a huge upset, and I watched the Tour De France every year since then.
I also loved ABC's coverage of the Tour. The music that sounded almost from the movie "Commando" was just great, and it really added to the telecast.
haha "commando"!!! yeah, this seemed like a great year to watch! i wish i was older than a few months...watching this stuff gives me chills...i could only imagine what kind of goose pimples would arise if i actually watched it in 89..
Sam Posey was such a great announcer. Specialized in the Indy 500 and other motor sports like Motocross (Carlsbad GP and "The Superbikers")..... And yea I remember him doing this Tour de France.
Sam Posey SUCKED. He calls cyclists "bikers" ... Phil Leggett is the ONLY voice of the Tour de France.
ABC's coverage of the greatest Tour rivalry in history just sucked. It was an atrocity and a crime against humanity for ABC to have covered the 1989 Tour de France.
me too, i did start training in this year and got so much motivation. within a year i joined the next byc.club and did really intensive bc sport up to the middle 90ies...was so much freedom, fun and suffer and so much good time in the nature instead of an office...baah beam me back.
Thanks lmacorp!! Great material! I love the little interviews in between footage of the race. The Tour 1989 was really one of the most exciting sport event ever.
