Bernard is a great fighter but I can't respect him like other greats because of his dirty tactics. He headbutted Tito soo many times in this fight I lost count. He probably wouldve been too slick anyways for Trinidad but those constant headbutts throughout the fight really did Tito in. Oscar and Winky Wright were also victims of Bernard's dirty tactics. The only guy Bernard couldn't beat was the guy he couldn't headbutt who was Jermain Taylor because of his unconvetional style of fighting.

Hopkins was to big and strong for Titio. Tito never had really established himself as a middleweight although hopkins was still a better fighter on technique alone. TItio should have continued to fight at welterweight where his physical advantages can be used more, only difference there is he can afford to make mistakes and be less quick but against Hopkins thows weakness got him KO'd
@Gyro911 Yea well nobody was saying that before the fight. After he KO'd Vargas and Joppy, everybody was talking about how he was going to kill this 36 year old man. Then after the fight people were like "oh Bernard was too big for him". But the thing is Bernard didn't use his size to win this fight, he used to his skill and technique. This is why Don King wanted to take Tito out of the tournament and put him straight in there with Roy cuz he knew the deal with Bernard.

And is also said Hopkins had better overall skill so i agree with you. The size did matter since it made Tito respect his power and be less agressive

Even Roy Jones told Don King fighting Hopkins was a mistake, he was supposed to fight Roy next and Roy told King that Hopkins would beat Trinidad. Hopkins headbutted the hell out of Tito, I counted 19 headbutts, but he also outboxed and dismantled him, both psycologically and physically. Bernard looked so much bigger too, when they stood face to face you could see fear in Tito's eyes. In spite of all that before the fight I never thought Tito loose to Hopkins cause he had looked bad vs Holmes..

trinidad is a great puncher but not a great boxer. i mean winky jabbed him to pieces with ease. hopkins was the perfect kind of guy to beat him, too elusive, too smart, too fast. everything came together on this night for him, and this fight is his masterpiece.

Tito had alot of cojones fighting hopkins, who at this stage in his career was at his best. trinidad on the other hand, had those two wars with odl, vargas and a very physical fight with joppy@ middle weight. if he would have taken some time off before fighting bhop, he would have been more competitive. he basically had only 2 fights @ m/w, and needed more time to get used to the weight. don king knew he was dead meat taking this fight too soon.

@jdector53 We were distraught because we hated Hopkins. He threw the Puerto Rican flag to the ground, and I as a little kid remember being very pissed at this and wanted Tito to knock him out very badly. Of course we were distraught. Most of us didn't think Tito would lose to him either.

Hopkins was to big and strong for Titio. Tito never had really established himself as a middleweight although hopkins was still a better fighter on technique alone. TItio should have continued to fight at welterweight where his physical advantages can be used more, only difference there is he can afford to make mistakes and be less quick but against Hopkins thows weakness got him KO'd

@Gyro911 Yea well nobody was saying that before the fight. After he KO'd Vargas and Joppy, everybody was talking about how he was going to kill this 36 year old man. Then after the fight people were like "oh Bernard was too big for him". But the thing is Bernard didn't use his size to win this fight, he used to his skill and technique. This is why Don King wanted to take Tito out of the tournament and put him straight in there with Roy cuz he knew the deal with Bernard.

And is also said Hopkins had better overall skill so i agree with you. The size did matter since it made Tito respect his power and be less agressive

@Gyro911 It mattered somewhat, but I believe Bernard's counterpunching skill mattered just as much if not more. But its true Hopkins was clearly the bigger man. It's funny cuz Bernard puposely came in smaller for the Oscar fight to prove to everyone he could beat him with skill and not just size.

Even Roy Jones told Don King fighting Hopkins was a mistake, he was supposed to fight Roy next and Roy told King that Hopkins would beat Trinidad. Hopkins headbutted the hell out of Tito, I counted 19 headbutts, but he also outboxed and dismantled him, both psycologically and physically. Bernard looked so much bigger too, when they stood face to face you could see fear in Tito's eyes. In spite of all that before the fight I never thought Tito loose to Hopkins cause he had looked bad vs Holmes..

trinidad is a great puncher but not a great boxer. i mean winky jabbed him to pieces with ease. hopkins was the perfect kind of guy to beat him, too elusive, too smart, too fast. everything came together on this night for him, and this fight is his masterpiece.

Tito had alot of cojones fighting hopkins, who at this stage in his career was at his best. trinidad on the other hand, had those two wars with odl, vargas and a very physical fight with joppy@ middle weight. if he would have taken some time off before fighting bhop, he would have been more competitive. he basically had only 2 fights @ m/w, and needed more time to get used to the weight. don king knew he was dead meat taking this fight too soon.

if you look at that punch carefully, bhop hit tito with a clean shot. But thats not why tito fell. He fell cuz after the shot bhop pushed him.And you know what Tito didn't get knocked out. You know why Tito couldn't ko Hopkins? Because he was discovered to have illegal handwraps like Margarito, thus his power wasn't there in this fight. There was no way Tito should have this kind of ungodly power going from 147, 154, and then 160. He was discovered in the dressing room trying to load up his gloves and kill Hopkins. Hopkins should have killed Tito in this fight for trying to kill him with illegal handwraps. Tito was trying to copy Luis Resto another Puerto Rican who loaded up.
