  • hey Fgks, this is a great song, but what the FUCK is wrong with this version? its extremely louder on the left side and can barely be heard on the right fucking ruining the song. You're a fuckup for ruining such a great song.

  • @MrCaduceo new headphones MrCaduceo. then go kill yourself

  • OMD on tour in North America go to "omd.uk.com" for tour dates and other information!

  • I remember when I first heard Genetic Engineer. There was a TV show in Calgary Alberta called 'FM Moving Pictures' (IIRC) that was a local cable show that highlighted up and coming music. I heard Genetic Engineer on TV, and then sat in front of the TV on the repeat broadcast with a tape recorder and recorded the audio off of my TV because I didn't have the $ to buy the album at that moment (or maybe it wasn't out yet?).

Genetic Engineer & Telegram are two of my all time fave songs, ever.

  • great video.

  • LOL its suppose to be a typewrieter? all these years i thought it was a lawn sprinkler!

had no idea there was a video for this great song. an amazing band.

  • @newwavepop "sometimes you never can tell" what effect you're hearing

  • Never saw this vid before-guess Virgin in Oz pushed Telegraph a bit harder as the main single..

  • I have no problem with rubbish videos as long as they are HONEST rubbish videos - and this is!

  • What an awesome bloody video, it's about time I saw this!

    :D

  • I understand the ripping of the book into two whole books as a reference to mitosis where the cell divides itself into two new daughter cells.. after division, the cell begins its process of division right from the beginning again, which is represented by the two men starting to type again. The video ends where it begins, just like cell cycle.. I like it!

  • @AviLuvsU and the spiral staircase is like the DNA helix.

  • when using the toilet do not use my cv, use the toilet paper. Nobody likes to have printed sciences nobody can read except using a mirror.

  • lots of sybolism, like when the children rip the book, it "clones" itself.

  • see that chair at 2:09, i used to have a red one like that

  • Sounds a bit like "Computer World" from Kraftwerk.

  • Great song! I have played my musictapes over and over again with loads of OMD songs! Reminds me of my youth!! Great times!!

  • Dazzle Schips - great album !!!!

  • prophetic

  • I really like this OMD song but for some reason it always gets forgotten about for some reason

  • These people were sooo much ahead of their time...their songs so prophetic

  • I remember when my uncle played this song to me in kindergarten. I was only 6 yrs old and I remember the Red colored tape cassette. I stole it from him and wore the tape out, it broke later into my 7's. I always remembered loving this album the most and later found it on CD just by a strange chance. Today it sounds just as fresh and original as it did when I heard it in 84.

  • 'The Dazzle ships' was a really amazing album. The album was an attempt at art rather than a get rich scheme. I wish more musicians took that approach.

  • capturing the future, yes capturing a little of the environment of future times before it happens, with clarity.. and then sharing that expression of talent. i'm grateful

  • Timeless topic and brill music!

  • Die Klamotten von Andy erinnern ein wenig an Mr. Bean,Oder?

  • this is an awesome OMD video!! my favourite yet!

    ^_^

    I also really love Souvenir

  • Brilliant song and a FANTASTIC album. Dazzle Ships is groundbreaking, From Radio Prague to Of all the things we've made it is a classic. OMD still rule.......

    This is Helena........

  • It was nice to rediscover this album.

  • Ah parts of West London I know- great song! Like the speak and spell voice!

  • awsumxxx

  • This made me miss the 80's.

Bands were still creative and not industry-produced.

  • I've had 2 Dazzleships discs. Last year or 3 ? they went back into print. Got online and bought all OMD there was. Glad I did.

  • babies/mother

    Hospital/Scissors

    creature/JUDGEment

    butcher-ENGINEER

  • even with Kraftwerk and other synth bands there was never Andy's beauty and voice and the whole concept for Dazzleeships and it was such a complete albumthis and telegraph still my fave songs from da 80's.If I hadn't lived in Los Ang I woulda missed all this great stuff.American Radio is stillfoo up.This is original, fun, poppy and so innovative. This sound was nowhere else!

  • wat the..its a musical!

  • i think it was a bigger hit here no20 i believe from the now cult omd album dazzleships and it was on their greatest hits album the first and best one in 1988 althouth it might have been the 12 inch version still think the best option for the first single was radio waves but it never made it even as the 3rd single or any single

  • Was this a bigger hit in England than in America? I never heard this song and it not included in their greatest hits packages es it? I say because dang 100,000 views! Dont get me wrong, its agreat song

  • erasure was much years later

  • Efficient, logical, effective, and practical!

    These guys are great.

  • I bought this album after it came out, it really shaped my

musical taste from that point on. Never heard anything

like that in my life. Really nothing like this in '83 existed. I was only 13, and it still remains as one of my favorite albums.

  • I bought the tape and took it most places with me in the old cassette deck. Like you, it shaped my tastes. Well done OMD.

  • @Lookfishlamp Snap!

  • @Lookfishlamp I had the same thing happen to me,..Only dif was that my friends dad had it on cassette and he quietly took it to his room. We listened to it over and over again. Up to then we had and I hadn't heard music like this. I know that they say and it's true to SOME extent that it almost damned them, but what of all the other ppl like you and I that were turned on to their music? Can a grp afford to only please their current fans or is it best to reach out and see who else is out there.

  • @Lookfishlamp You bought this album -after it came out,,,amazing!!!!

  • this is the most clever concept for a vid I have ever really noticed. I had it downloaded and then lost it when I got a new hard drive. Two genetics books: hillarious.

  • Can you do me a favour please and explain what the video means? Is it merely a load of scenes that are 'sort of to do with' reproduction and genetics? Or it is more than that?

Thanks if you can! Great song!

  • This was way so cool back in the day. I still like this song.

  • that young girl was in grange hill

  • all time fav of mine

  • I am young again. Loved it 1983 and still loving it.

  • 1:18 thats me Esther -ORPHAN

  • thats Esther from ORPhan

  • This is one of the many classic OMD songs on my mp3. This is 8 years older than me but god i looooooooooove it.

  • Anyone notice the voice synthesizer says 'president' instead of 'judgement' on the audio rather than video recording. Can anyone tell me why?

  • Dazzle Ships was a daring experimental epic from a band that recently had a top 10 album in the UK.....very brave of them to venture out like that!

  • Don't get it.

  • un mejor sonido el omd que el de pet shop boys

  • por supuesto!!!

  • el unico grupo que se estuvo a la par con en los 80's con omd fue human league

  • Great!

  • Never realised this was a single...wish they'd done it on their last tour..they did loads of songs as well as Architecture & Morality stuff...could never get hold of Dazzle ships ,had it on order for months...

  • fantastic 80s a great time to live

  • I feel REINVIGORATED , FORGET the recession of 08

  • grupo insignia de otros muchos gracias o.m.d

  • Thanks for putting this up. Finally getting the collection of videos I thought I'd never have.

  • wonderful music feel verry young again

  • Back to early teenage years is a big way....... I feel old!

  • Architecture & Morality

    Dazzle Ships

    Two classic walbums.

  • And the covers design were also good!.

  • My first Lp !!!! Great - thank you !

  • genetic.... engineer

  • Wow! Fantastic!

  • i bought this masterpiece on 12in my fave omd single ever

  • I wrote one time time about learning

  • support Stem Cell Research

  • I used to love OMD SO much. I still do, but now it must have been years since I heard them. 5 stars of course! :)

  • One of the best concept albums ever created: DAZZLE SHIPS. I hope they will bring back this live on tour like "Architecture & Morality" all across the world. It really make sense !!!!

  • Super group. Super Lp. Super song. Super video.

Genetic Engineering to improbe the world.

    Regards from Spain.

  • Geníal!!!

  • my alltime fave OMD track .

  • First time i've seen this vid. Should have been on the Greatest Hits Video. I bought the newly remastered Dazzle Ships today from Amazon with extra tracks ! YAAY!

  • wow and how the new remastered album is in your opinion ?

  • Excellent. I loved the 12" versions of Genetic and Telegraph, plus another earlier version of Telegraph ! Some good B sides too. Awesome.

  • Dazzle Ships is an amazing Album of original ideas. I bought the disc on the first day of release and must admit that it sounds brilliant 25+ years later.

  • yes I bought it the day it was released, at the time truly awesome, and today still inspiring

  • I absolutely love this song but this is the first time i've ever seen the video.

    Many thanks for posting it.

  • Genetic manipulations today...

  • How true..how prophetic..!

  • Zgadzam się Tobą NadJednostka , zresztą OMD to jeden z lepszych zespolo jakie istnieja ;]

  • ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE! Amazing single with a brilliant b-side "4-neu" from one of the best electronic albums ever! "DAZZLE SHIPS" was influenced by kraftwerk, eno and neu! but took the sound much further on a brilliant concept album dressed in Peter Saville's cryptic art design. Classic. And the lp charted no 5 in UK album charts that is not bad at all."Genetic Engineering' reached no 20,quite an achievement for a song about a subject,so ahead of its time!

  • Noooo qrwa! Jedna z najlepszych piosenek wszechczasów!

  • One of my favs, it must be the speak and spell sample, nice video fgks!

  • Music for your tape recorder.

I Hope you All Enjoy it.

This is Helena, your emcee, today.

  • A B C A B C A B C A B C 1 2 3

  • omd . . . so freaking good, i personally saw them twice

  • Didn't the little girl in the vid become Grange Hill's Jane Bishop in the 80's?

  • the best song of OMD

    :)

  • OMD at their very best

  • i love so much to omd and it's so awesome this video i love the 80s

  • My past... I love it !

  • i love this song :)

  • The British are great music makers. I just love you OMD. You are one of the best.

  • I hear ya. I am from America but consider British music to be more advanced than American music is for the most part.

  • it is amazing to see so many people have and know the album 'Dazzle Ships'. Because this is very rare found, experimental album.

  • This is really great to see. I loved this album as a child and still love it today. As everyone else has said, way ahead of it's time and such a shame that not many people seemed to like it. One of my friends once joked with me when he saw it in my collection "Oh, you're the one single person who bought this album then!".

  • What the hell was that?

  • That was a song by the best band you will ever hear

  • NO........................!

  • THATS HOW TO MAKE COPIES AND COUNTERFEITS OF EVERYTHING, Including luxury items such Louis Vuiton items too, not just that Genetic Book

  • Remarkable how this album holds up today. It's remains high in my top 10 list from the 80's along with Siouxsie & the Banshees' Kiss In The Dreamhouse & ABC's Lexicon of Love...Dazzle Ships (Parts II, III & VII) mix beautifully into ANY Massive Attack track

  • Agreed! Dazzle Ships is a timeless and suberb album!

  • dazzle ships was a great album.pitty the pop heads only wanted more joan of arc etc. omd were far ahead of their time

  • the british kraftwerk without doubt

  • This song is so beautiful...I love this song

  • Pretty much my favourite pop song ever: it's great to see that other people rate the fantastic, subtle, heartbreaking, beautifully paced Dazzle Ships. I saw a stunning OMD concert at the time of that album in Poole. So sad that the response to Dazzle Ships meant that they went downhill (and downmarket) from then on.

  • I used to love OMD , there're from an era that explored, and experamented with music and usually had something say about this big ol' world and all that goes on within. Of corse they relented later on and turned into POP ... when the major lables got there dirty [Let's make a BUCK at the expence of everything] hooks into them. Oh well ...,I guess it dosen't matter anyways .

  • One of the best of the 80s

  • Brilliant, i love the 12" Version so much of GENETIC ENGINEERING. One of the best tracks of the 80`ies.

  • By the way, has anyone heard about some apparently legendary performance OMD did on the BBC of their song "88 Seconds in Greensboro"? I heard that there was something bizarre or unnerving about the performance and haven't seen it. Anyone know about this?

  • Wow, what a nice video! Refreshing. I've seen no videos from Dazzle Ships till now. Dazzle Ships is a moving, beautiful, dark album. The video complements the song in an unexpected way, without being forced. Elegant!

  • Bless you,fqks!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! 20 years old, such a catchy tune but listen to the powerful lyrics. At 2:40 book ripped into two, then becomes one. Dolly The Sheep, OMD predicted ewe :)

  • Great song from the album Dazzle Ships. Now if someone can put Telegraph on here, that would be great. That was the first video I've seen by OMD.

  • Actually the Telegraph video was posted in youtube just a week ago:), just look Telegraph + OMD

  • One of the different and best 80` ies tracks. I love this !

  • This was my first single in the 80´s

  • Ba Ba Ba da da. Classic...

  • one of the greatest songs from one of the greatest bands of the 80s. Thanks for posting it!

  • very interesting

  • very interesting

  • New Wave at its best. Nothing beats these guys...

  • Their most underrated single ever (it's not even on any of their greatest hits compilations - how criminal is that?)

  • try the john peel cd ...its very gd

  • "Secret" also missed the greatest hits CD. I have rarely seen a "greatest hits" CD that truly had all the greatest hits. More of a marketing ploy then anything, they sell 2 million of those old ones and then 2 or 3 years from now we will have to buy a 2 CD set that truly has all of the hits. And the RIAA wonder why people P2P.

  • It's actually on the 1988 release "Best of OMD" cd.

  • IBM Selectric. mmmmm I want my vintage computer now Apple

  • i remember seeing them performing this on top of the pops and andy mccluskey trying to lip sync to it lol.

  • Cool!!

  • The Kid A of its era! Can't wait for the Dazzle Ships Reissue....

  • There's something vaguely mysterious and sinister happening in this video (kidnapping? ransom? medical experiments? cloned kids?). Also there are the repeating code words from the Speak & Spell robot voice (clues?). The video's like a condensed dramatic thriller... like the lyrics, it's ambiguous and enigmatic. But what's it all about? What's actually happening? Any ideas?!

  • La mejor canción de omd.

    The best song of omd.

  • top class amazing, brilliant, etcetc.

    can't say enough.

    godlike white music.

  • Great song from a GREAT OMD album, under-rated release from 1983, and panned by the critics--who listens to them anyway! Look at all the "old" technology in the video and I still love that Speak & Spell (and I'm not talking about Depeche Mode's first LP!) device they used to say the words in this song and other on Dazzel Ships.

  • Echo banjo2000, never seen this video before but DS really good.. My copy of Dazzle Ships is just about worn out. Have several copies of the Genetic Engineering 12" as loved it so much. Mind you, just cringed on the video at the end - did we really think that we looked cool in white socks???

  • Thanks. Never seen this video before. Dazzle Ships album was OMD at their experimental best!

  • I like when the two kids tear the book on genetics in two, and they find the book split into two like a multipling cell.

    -MINESWEEP

  • Then there's the spiral staircase = DNA strand... ooh, *symbolism*! ;-)

  • Top band, top song, one of the bset bands from the 80's

  • Great song... Dazzle Ships is criminally underrated...

  • Great song.

  • This is the BEST of Omd song...like your al saying it is underrated compared to other stuff. When i first heard the song i didn't stop playing it, and even at its original release it got to number 20 in the chart, wow! And the message which it carry's is still valid, even more than before. Thank you OMD!

  • this is my fav omd song ahead of its time

  • hey cool

  • Great song - under rated compared to other OMD stuff.

  • I agree but there is a lot of very good omd stuff out there especially sugar tax
