But judging from the brief passage that you read, while I agree that the 'Either/Or' instinct which compells us to 'Draw A Line In The Sand' without reason or purpose is unconscious, as I explain in my own book, "The Need To Believe," we are sentient and can override this instincts. ecclesiastes 1:18 "he who increases knowledge increases sorrow." i have sorrow as do you. knowledge is the will to go through with it even if the burden is more than we can take. this is paramount to evolve and if there is a divine one(s), which i don't think or believe exist, then i do believe this sorrow undertaken will be considered. i'm a big fan of campbell and am glad you brought his interview with moyers to light. check out edith hamilton if you got the time.
