@TheMetalhead804 Last time I checked most metalcore bands used a lot of alternate picking between palm muting and harmonic scales to give it that 'melodic' sound. Think Unearth for example. Either way I'm sure we can both agree any band that resorts to the same riff over and over again shouldn't produce music.

There's talent in almost all music, wherever you look, alot of the simpler hardcore bands like a day to remember excel at things like songwriting and live performance, playing wise alot of it is simple, but still well written. Bands like emmure are very rhythm based, and songs written entirely on an open string need good dynamics and a tight performance to work well.
I don't have full evidence to support that. My best friend who is friends with a LOT of hardcore bands that are signed, so I took his word, apparently knows the guitarist and the person that sells them their music. And apparently, a lot of bands do that. But honestly, it depends on how you're looking at the music. A Day To Remember does not excel at "songwriting", maybe performance, but it is not "well-written." The songs are almost entirely in the same key throughout the song, nothing original.
I could go on about ADTR, but I'd rather not because you probably won't understand. And Emmure? If I told them to play a syncopated riff in 4/16 in the tempo of adagio, using the chord progression F#m, Dm, and Fm... they'd look at me like, WHAT? You can tell a band doesn't know theory by how unmusical, simplistic, and dull their composition is. You can't be "rhythm based" just because you change the same chord progression through a song. There's no counter melodies, nothing to accent the music.
I have no doubt that your right about that, but to be honest Emmure don't strike me as the type of band that set out to be well educated musically. They make slow and low, heavy as fuck, dirty, angry music and they've made a fucking living out of it and they sell a shit load of records and work hard. I enjoy listening to them when the mood strikes me and i respect what they do and how they do it.
do me a favor, if you really know theory and are studying theory, then they would've taught you how to break down a song and pick out the theory to understand it. Listen to "Through Osiris' Eyes" by Pagans Mind. There are changes left and write, beautifully written chord progressions, key adaptions, great usage of modes/chords, incredible harmonies that you just don't expect, so much more theory involvement. That's how music should be written. It actually develops feeling.
I don't buy it, i'm not even going to explain why i don't. Your sitting in front of a computer thousands of miles away and i don't know you so i'll take things with a pinch of salt. And no, ADTR are amazing songwriters, they're songs are fucking anthems they write tunes that are catchy with some mosh thrown in there and it works for me and alot of other people. If that isn't good songwriting then what it is?

yeah man, and every other core band... if they weren't "Brutal,d00d" they'd have no fan base. The best way I represent it, is looking at it this way.... if you take a... Cadacross song, for example, and play the entire thing on piano, it'd sound wonderful because the theory is incredible! But if you took a deathcore song, and played it on piano.. it'd sound quite identical to a cat being tortured.

There's talent in almost all music, wherever you look, alot of the simpler hardcore bands like a day to remember excel at things like songwriting and live performance, playing wise alot of it is simple, but still well written. Bands like emmure are very rhythm based, and songs written entirely on an open string need good dynamics and a tight performance to work well.

I don't have full evidence to support that. My best friend who is friends with a LOT of hardcore bands that are signed, so I took his word, apparently knows the guitarist and the person that sells them their music. And apparently, a lot of bands do that. But honestly, it depends on how you're looking at the music. A Day To Remember does not excel at "songwriting", maybe performance, but it is not "well-written." The songs are almost entirely in the same key throughout the song, nothing original.

I could go on about ADTR, but I'd rather not because you probably won't understand. And Emmure? If I told them to play a syncopated riff in 4/16 in the tempo of adagio, using the chord progression F#m, Dm, and Fm... they'd look at me like, WHAT? You can tell a band doesn't know theory by how unmusical, simplistic, and dull their composition is. You can't be "rhythm based" just because you change the same chord progression through a song. There's no counter melodies, nothing to accent the music.

They make slow and low, heavy as fuck, dirty, angry music and they've made a fucking living out of it and they sell a shit load of records and work hard. do me a favor, if you really know theory and are studying theory, then they would've taught you how to break down a song and pick out the theory to understand it. Listen to "Through Osiris' Eyes" by Pagans Mind. There are changes left and write, beautifully written chord progressions, key adaptions, great usage of modes/chords, incredible harmonies that you just don't expect, so much more theory involvement. That's how music should be written. It actually develops feeling.
