One thing that wasn't touched upon in this game review that I wonder about is the class system. In the first game you would play as a class then at a certain level you could upgrade to one of 2 classes, and then again at another higher level. Does this game offer that?

@angryguy306 I love Vandal Hearts and I didn´t like any of the Disgaea games, neither Final Fantasy Tactics XD it´s not that Disgaea isn´t a great game, which it IS indeed and I would recommend it to people who like this genre (and the dialogues are pretty hilarious XD) but it isn´t my kind of game for many reasons. Just because it´s the same genre it doesn´t mean you have to like all of them XD

Besides, I think he already played all 3 Disgaeas and the spin-offs XD

I liked Vandal Hearts, and most other turn-based strategy RPGs, but I disliked Disgaea a lot due to the extremely irritating, bratty characters and cookie-cutter gameplay. Throwing a couple very minor unique game aspects into it doesn't mask the rest of the cookie-cutter gameplay.

@angryguy306 This game is generic too, I agree. The difference is that this was a ten dollar game that nobody's claiming is great. Disgaea isn't much better. It's one of the worst strategy RPGs I've played. Especially for the time they came out.

The characters in that game are also easily the worst characters out of every SRPG I've played, and are up there for worst characters I've seen in an RPG period. They're extremely irritating and bratty. There's nothing likeable about them at all.

@angryguy306 The gameplay for FFT was arguably the best for the genre when it came out in 1997. Disgaea's gameplay was extremely dated when it was released SIX YEARS LATER, and imo still worse than FFT's.

I didn't say people didn't like Disgaea, I said I didn't like the characters in the game, and found the gameplay to be very dated at the time of it's release. That was especially true for the sequals. Disgaea has handheld-level gameplay and graphics, but was released on a console.

VH 1&2 actually had a more appealing story line, and was way longer, and the graphics shockingly for a PSX title are way more gorgeous than this. I guess for $10 you can't really expect perfection.

They Should make a legitimate Final Fantasy Tactics 2 for the PS3! none of that crap they released on the game boy advance!

They should keep it faithful to the original, but just have improved graphics, and sounds! They would need to be careful and not fuck it up like they did for Tactics Advance, the gameplay was one of it's strong points, so no need to change it too much!

And Square, while you're at it, remake FF7 on the PS3! Keep it exactly the same, but update the graphics to next gen!

Final Fantasy Tactics forever! The original on PS1 is still by far the game (strategy and all others) I have played the most! I have logged thousands of hours in dozens of new campaigns, I have played it on my ps1,ps2,ps3,psp and even on ePsxe emulator on PC. I even tried the updated version War of the lions for psp, I love some of the add-ons like new characters, 16:9 aspect, and the new job skills, but it loads sluggish before special moves in fights. Overall the Ps1 version is still the best!

Vandal Hearts 2 have a weird system where you move at the same time as the enemy which means you have to attack the square where you THINK they will be. This is incredibly frustrating and I can't really recommend the game.
