Well here we are on the 30th anniversary of Harry Chapin's death. Strangely, I was on the long Island expressway that day just behind the fiery wreck. I drove by thinking how sad and how quickly a life can change or be lost. It wasn't until later that afternoon I heard it was Harry. It brought a hollow helpless feeling to my gut. Now 30 years later and hearing of the anniversary this morning on the radio, that feeling came racing back as fresh as it was 30 years ago. Thank you Harry for the mus
@MrKonablue I had just seen him in concert at the old Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh just about two weeks before. Needlessto say, I was equally shocked when he died. What a performer....
How can I describe how the song Taxi makes me feel.... I hear the song and see the video and all I can say about it right now is thank you Harry Chapin, thank you for capturing a time in "my" life that I can always go back to when I hear your song....
Song popped into my head this morning....seems how timeless songs will do that at the strangest times. Artistry and lyrics that can move the listener like that don't come along often. Stirs alot of memories from the era which the song was produced. Chapin made a great contribution with that song and it will live on for a generation.
Glad to find this. The song is a part of my soul and has been for many years. The visuals suit this quite well. Deep thanks, and respectfully,.....Brian

Hide behind or within our "Handsome Homes, live in a dillusioned world of substance abuse (drugs alcohol, sex etc.) and perhaps we will lose the lives we all deserve. We are what we make of ourselves, help those who are in need when we have extra, give hope and love when needed. .....Peace and love to all

@jojodot I grew up in Palms, California in West Los Angeles. I would walk to Palms Jr. High listening to my transistor radio and this song would come on "Boss Radio" 93 KHJ.
In the mid-eighties, as a college kid in a Media Arts program, I worked weekends at a radio station, midnights. I was there alone all night, on air, and so if I wanted to go outside to smoke a joint, I'd put on fairly long song on -- and more often than not, it was this one, because I really liked it. ....Little did I realize, some two-plus decades later, I'd be 'Harry'. ....But that's cool. Another man mighta been angry, another man might have hurt... but I guess I can deal with it.

SUCH A POWERFUL MESSAGE.....We all have.... or will have... that one person in our lives.... The one that got away.... The one that left such an impression and yet we put them ..at the back of our mind.....until we meet again !
This has been the story of my one true love for almost 40 years. Thank you Harry for telling the story that has played endlessly in my mind and heart and continued to keep that love alive..
Beautiful... will someone please please please remaster and re-issue Mr. Chapin's Heads and Tales in pristine hq audio??? His entire body of work deserves to be preserved and treated with fondness and respect!
What an awesome video. Thank you for sharing this. I like this mix with Harry's vocal more upfront and the blended vocal counterparts with the strings. It still sounds as great today as it did for me back in high school in 1972.
Every song of Harry's is a story filled with so much emotion that we can't help but think back on high school sweethearts, innocense and love gone wrong and days gone by. A true master at songwriting or were his songs his life story? Thank you Harry for the many hours I have spent listening to your music and wondering about days gone by.
I thought of your Taxi song Harry this evening sitting in a parking lot having seen my son off at the airport. I felt sad. The rain fell on the windshield...it was gray outside and I sang out loud - "I go flying so high when I'm stoned". Thank you for the memories of when our sad times were excuses to be exquisitely creative - transported to places where romance haunted our senses and made everything kind of beautiful. I miss those difficult, tender years. I miss your music Harry.
That's lovely. Interesting to hear a slightly different version. I asaw HC in concert in Portland in 1976, having loved his stuff since "Tax." I still do. Guy makes me cry. And occasionally laugh.
This is one of the best songs ever written I was never much of a chapin fan in the 70s' but now in my latter year I;ve really learned to appreicate his music, by my name I'm sure you all know i'm a huge beatle fan, So going to college in the early 70s; I listen to lots of british bands...Zep, Badfinger ect...but mainly the fab four...But again I have to say this a very well written and well put together song,,,thx for posting it
@MrBeatles5 --you are correct --one of the best songs ever written--in the midst of all of the wild rock going on in the '70's its amazing that this tune was a hit-- its not rock at all-- but we all liked it then-- and its really that much more appreciated now--RIP Harry
To me, this was Harry's masterpiece. He was a great person and humanitarian...I am sure his spirit is flying high right now in spirit land, as we we speak.
The song that put Harry Chapin on the map back in 1972!Still sounding great after all this time,& its quality can never diminish!Songs like this is what makes Harry Chapin immortal!
Harry Chapin was a wonderful human being who gave me hope when everyone around me appeared to be real jerks. He never did the credit he deserved but perhaps that made me admire the Harry Chapin even more. He remains one of the few people besides my Mother & Father that I have truly admired. Cheers to all htree of my heroes!!!!
Great video and sound! I used to listen to this classic at night... on some far off radio station... lost in the shadows of yesterday..... Beautiful song!
All these years later, I'm smiing at the concept of so much communication taking place in the duration of a $2.50 fare...how far would that get you these days?
Taxi is such an enchanting song. It has always been one of my all time favorites. The sound is so classic. Taxi and Wild World by Cat Stevens both give me the chills. Harry Chapin is one of the all time greats!
Harry a Brooklyn boy made good. From Brooklyn Heights actually where his family owned a small grocery shop on Hicks St off of Cranberry - now a small park is named after him blocks away by the promenade.
This is an amazing short film, and conjures up exactly what I saw in my imagination when I first heard it. The silhouetted images and bleeding colors remind me of the Robert de Niro 'Taxi Driver' film. Captures the real feeling of melancholia of two people who's dreams
have decayed into mundane and turgid routine ("I go fly so high when I'm stoned").
yes i have felt this this song is similar not in music but in lyrics to ambrosia's "how much i feel" in that some people no matter how u try u can never forget
Reunited by chance with a deep felt lost love, who walks away after tossing him some cash. "Harry, keep the change". We do often get what we ask for really.
@richiebear1969 and The Sequel. Cat's and the Cradle was his mainstream hit but far from his best. Not sure I've ever heard a Harry Chapin song I do not love. An incredible story teller taken far too soon.
I remember this song in the early 70s on the FM dial back when they played the whole song. AM radio was what everyone listened to mostly but if they played this song on AM then they would have cut the hell out of it. I dont remember ever hearing a cut version of this song? It just wouldnt have been the same. Takin tips and gettin stoned surely would have been cut. LOL...........
Just imagine, what songs we will never here. Harry was a magician.....and we will wait....till the music magician sends us those beautiful songs in another place....
from march 1972, i was in 9th grade. a close friend of mine tommy donlon got hit by a car and killed on 24july 1972. we were 14- when i hear this song i cry because if i could only have the months back before he died. i miss him so much. any song from 71-72 makes me think of him.its funny how music takes us back to good times. tommy donlon 14sept1957-24july1972.tommy at my hour of death please come and take me down that tunnel, maybe he met harry, who knows. from march 72, what a song.
When I first heard your dads song in 1972 I could NOT change the station. In July of 1009 this song still keeps me listening, I could NOT pull away then or now! In my heart Harry Chapin is very much alive, de Craig
5* .....Still a classic sound even after so many decades. So are Sequel(to Taxi), I Wanna Learn a Love Song, and W.O.L.D. He & Jim Croce left a legacy of great songs. Too bad their lives end so prematurely otherwise there would be so many more songs of theirs to enrich the world.

@richiebear1969 and The Sequel. Cat's and the Cradle was his mainstream hit but far from his best. Not sure I've ever heard a Harry Chapin song I do not love. An incredible story teller taken far too soon.

@richiebear1969 are you kidding. this is the best thing he did.

@richiebear1969 Both songs are masterpieces on their own, and really shouldn't be compared. Both are great stories, and I'm sure you enjoy both.

@muzweli13 "Cat's In The Cradle" is okay, but "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens is a masterpiece.

LOL...........

from march 1972, i was in 9th grade. a close friend of mine tommy donlon got hit by a car and killed on 24july 1972. we were 14- when i hear this song i cry because if i could only have the months back before he died. i miss him so much. any song from 71-72 makes me think of him.its funny how music takes us back to good times. tommy donlon 14sept1957-24july1972.tommy at my hour of death please come and take me down that tunnel, maybe he met harry, who knows. from march 72, what a song.

This still sounds so good!!
When I first heard your dads song in 1972 I could NOT change the station. In July of 1009 this song still keeps me listening, I could NOT pull away then or now! In my heart Harry Chapin is very much alive, de Craig

I have submitted a dispute to YouTube so that they can play the soundtrack to the film.

That would be great. I guess some believe the world may explode if people are able to listen freely. Thanks for posting this.
