  • Came back to say that after listening to this beautiful song again - the words of this song and his singing are just simply beautiful. It made me cry today. I am amazed that this song is from 1973 it sounds like it was made yesterday - simply beautiful and thank you so much for putting this song on here.

  • I heard this earlier this afternoon and is has been in my head all afternoon so i had to look it up. I like this song.

  • As músicas de hoje são merda pura! A década de 70 foi a melhor!!!

  • Linda música!

  • What a great voice Peter Skellern has! Wish I could sing like that. I can't, but check out my own songs on PeterFardellSongs if you like!

  • The arrangement on this song is just simply superb - dont come much better

  • Charted 50 on Billboard in the US. It was played a ton on my local MOR station, WIP in Philly in the fall of 72 into 73--did very well among the easy listening audiences-- and then never, and I mean never heard from again.

  • Memories of the first time I started geting into the local 'hit parade' as an 11-12 year old. Always remembered this song - a beautiful ballad. Also makes you realise A) good music is timeless, and B) time literally flies......

  • I'm just thankful to finally have the words!!

How I love pretending I can play the piano at the end:)

  • Skellern's first hit song was this song, "You're a Lady" in 1972. His album Astaire is pure magic. ♪♪♪♫♪ Lovely song ♪♪♪♫♪ Be Cosmic, ☸ڿڰۣ—☸ڿڰۣ—

  • beautiful song,iloved!

  • Just beautiful, takes us back to the simpler times in the seventies. This song got very little airplay, pity. Lou Christie did a worthy version of this in 1997, but this is still the standard. Thanks for posting.

  • @2n918 It did reach no. 3 in the UK charts. But I agree, he didn't get the attention he deserved. Maybe it had something to do with one of the songs on his first album: It was called 'Song for the Critics', in which he referred to them as 'parasites'!

  • This takes me back to being a kid. My Dad played the trombone beautifully and this piece always gives me goosebumps. Not heard it for so long so now I am a very happy bunny.Truly a fantastic song forus hopeless romantics.

  • Beautiful video for a very beautiful song. Thankyou.

  • @greenshirt1000 .. I agree and enjoy it a lot . thks for having people like you ..

  • I seriously think this is one of the best songs of the last 40 years; but you never here it on the radio. I guess it doesn't fit any genre or perhaps any era. It's also very evocative of the north.

  • @edmund184 I indeed listened to it on the radio. And the station is, I am pretty sure, German radio station SWR1. They broadcast some brilliant music, especially at night.

  • WONDERFUL My dear bairesco...

    thanks for sharing....

    Greetings from POLAND

  • The Trombones are singin... and I salute Mr Skellern. Another top10-on-planet-earth-song.

  • I ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS HAS SOME OF THE FINEST TROMBONE PLAYING ON ANY POP SONG THAT WAS EVER RECORDED.

the trombones really work on this because like peter they are truly romantic.

  • Peter Gabriel never did a version of this!

  • Wonderful Video!

  • Certainement une des plus belles chanson d'amour que beaucoup de femmes rêvent de recevoir en cadeau!

  • I love this. it´s one of my favourite songs. it´s pure romantic. thank your for this video. beautiful.

  • anyone heard peter sing that`ll do? Would love to hear it again but cant find a recording anywhere.

  • Did he record this? The well-known version is by Peter Gabriel.

  • thanks Whigwood. must have been having a senior moment!!! Of course it was Peter Gabriel.lol.Still cant find it anywhere on you tube. Do you know the song I mean? It was recorded with the Brighouse and Rastrick brass band.I think it is called "that`ll do" Thanks for puttin g me straight.

  • @rojan101 - Type Peter Gabriel that'll do in the search box and...bingo!

  • In the 70's, when I first heard this song I, pretty much ignored it, background, wallpaper music! I played it on my radio show for the first time in 30 years.......OMG! WHAT A CRACKING TUNE!!! .....& what a great selection of pics to go with it! 100%.

  • what a beautiful song,my dad bought this single for my mum back in 73, mum sadly passed away now, but just found this clip and had never realised how fantastic it is( now im 46) R.I.P mum,

  • @crump1963 ....Dad allways truned up the radio for Mam when this came on ;-)

  • @crump1963 How refreshing the honesty. Funny what music can do.

  • @TuneInTurnonWakeup Cheers.....i think one of the reasons he bought it was he played in a brass band and it kind of hit two chords for him ... Mum and the music.

  • @crump1963

what a loveley thought for you..I bought this myself,im 51 now but still ove these tunes, may ur mum rip..my dad too died pases away 20yrs ago and his fav was kate bush and wuthering heights..bless you!

  • @crump1963 God bless you, your daddy and your mum's soul !

  • @crump1963 Lovely!

  • This is my favourite song of all time. Skellern - an underated genius. M

  • cunninlynguists....... good stuff tho

  • Love this X

  • Releasrd in 1972 and still one of the best. Always reminds me of the first girl I really fancied!!! She was a good friend but nothing more :-( . Ah well cest la vie as they say. Pax to all from Ian Smith.Xxx.

  • It is a clever song. How many singers now would consider a brass band as backing group?

  • thanks for giving back memories

  • Lovely song! Lovely pictures! Fine video!

  • Oh bless you for posting this...it was out just as I was leaving school ... not just nostalgic but atmospheric too....

  • I'm 17, I heard this song for the first time today. I don't particularly think the video goes quite with the song but I do love this song so much already.

  • I am 54 now, and last heard this song before I went to college in 1973!!!

  • I last heard this song in 1972. I finally found it on you Tube. 37 years......Ain't the Internet wonderful?

  • yes this song reminds me of a very warm september when I started high school in 1972..almost brought a tear to my eye hearing this again on the net

  • I was just back in high school for oh...about 4:36. I haven't heard this since 1973. I had given up on ever hearing it again. The music brings that young heartache back, reminds me of my friends when we were sophmores .... even the nail polish I wore back then.

The opening horns...the choir...the syncopation. The music and the choir are just as moving as the words......laa la la la.

Thank you for sharing, I'm so glad that I found it.

  • I am a 65-year old American woman and I had never heard this song until I heard it played on the radio when I was in a restaurant in Brussels. I wrote down the words and looked it up. So romantic!

  • This song brings back the early 1970s to me and much regret too, at good times now gone. But then I have always had a soft spot for sad songs.

  • 1973 : j'avais 11 ans et j'adorais cette chanson...

    2009 : je pense à toi...

    Alain

  • I have the old 45. Thanks!!

  • Walking home in the snow. Orange street lights. The girl in the brown boots (I never did ask her out). God, this music is time travel.

  • Love it Love it Love it. When I met my husband he had this on a vinyl single ..the oldies will remember them...:-). I loaned it and never got it back...so Im really happy to hear it again. its a beautiful song and a wonderful singer singing it. Thanks for it and all the other great songs and videos you have posted.

  • Hit in the Netherlands when I was growing up. I think I was 12 or 13.....has always stuck in my mid. Great song. Thanks for reminding me of the Lynsey de Paul song too....had forgotten about that one.

  • To soraya DéZoRmEs... De la part d'Abel Gance..

  • This song haunts me, don't know why just one of those things that you take on board when you're five.

  • I was 4 when it came out. Funnily enough I don't remember it, but can recall Sugar Me by Lynsey de Paul that was a hit at the same time.

  • Holga korbin was my first love Hayley Mills a close second

  • An unlikely top ten hit at the height of the glam and heavy rock era, but there again the Brighouse and Rastrick Band had a huge hit at the height of disco and punk.

  • Love the song but like the video even better. Brilliant!

  • thank you so much for posting this timeless classic. I was born and raised on the south coast of England but this to me just brings fabulous visions of wet northern cobbled streets slate-roofed terraced houses and dark grey skies.............just fabulous!

  • I so loved this wen it first came out and Dear Terry ( Wogan ) obviously feels the same as yes he playd it the other day!It will neva date.! a real classic !!V. emotional song and tune !!!

  • What a timeless, absoutely beautiful song.

  • Heard this on Terrys radio show this morning (radio2) - Love it!

  • So did I, classic song

  • i remember this striking a chord with me, even as a kid - fabulous song, thanks for posting

  • Quel bonheur! Merci à You Tube de me l'avoir proposée!

  • this was a bit off beat even for the time...70 i think....but shows something with style and class can just cut through

  • Brass bands, choirs, a classical style singer, a shame this type of single wouldn't work now where indie bigots and Simon Cowell dominate our music scene.

  • I agree. If your not a skinny teen you've no chance.

  • Brilliant

  • This song reminds me of a very nice person. She's always in my heart

  • You were stone drunk when you posted all this, weren't you?

  • Estoy lejos de tí, pero puedo soñar contigo.

Mi delirio que te adora en esta vida y en la otra.

  • And still I dream she'll come to me

That we will live the years together

  • Hmm....that choir at 2:18...goosebumps. Could almost well up a tad. Nostalgic, very special .. alot of memories here.

  • Buffy Ste Marie did this Skellern song ages ago on a TV show. Anybody got it?

  • This song is sooooo nostalgic of the 70's, I can imagine what I was doing when this playing. It is such a romantic song. Thanks Peter Skellern.

  • I think I heard this song only once in seventees. I'm so glad I found it again.

  • I was actually wondering who actually did this song. I had first heard a French version titled ''vous ma lady'' which was a duet with Brigitte Bardot and this other guy I forget the name. Went out of the country, heard this song on the radio a few years ago, and just found out now. I wonder who did the original?

  • I thought P.S. version was the original.

  • They played this on WIP in Philadelphia back in 1972. Always liked it. It actually charted 50 on Billboard--not bad for the states. Very nice video. Thanks for posting!

  • beautiful...!

  • My first time hearing this lovely song. No fine wine here, but this tune made it go down so much smoother.

  • look this is as it is, from a music loving, skateboarding (30 years)bartending reformed drunk this song has always been pretty good, but thank you soooo much for the fantastic art that accompanies this..drove me to a glass of fine red and a small hankercheif to wipe but one tear away. Again thankyou
