Sky DID transmit in stereo on Astra as did many other channels;to get stereo on ASTRA transmissions you had to select Stereo 1 on your receiver with the audio button on your handset which gave the stereo channels 7.02/7.20Mhz and select PANDA1 noise reduction or equivalent soundalike modes on your box to reduce hiss.
...and use scart leads to connect stereo TV's and stereo VCR's and use stereo phono leads to listen in stereo thru your hifi system. MTV Europe was particularly excellent in PANDA1 stereo mode thru stereo hifi systems and stereo TV's!
Also some satellite systems were quite prone to sparklies in cloudy skies/rain/snow,and this was exacerbated when you used 60cm dishes in Northern England ie weak signal strength/variable sparklie count on different channels etc.
This clip was taken from thetvroom (dot) com. All the Sky idents on there are very high quality. If you listen carefully at the very beginning of the clip you can hear the Windows 98 "chord" sound, which is also on thetvroom's clip so it's a dead giveaway.
It used to be the best TV channel in the country, but now it's just shite.

Yes I remember this. Back when satellite T.V. was fresh and new. It was so cool to have satellite T.V back then, I was ten, and loved it!

I remember this one. Always reminds me of WWF in the golden age of Hulk Hogan, Ulitmate Warrior, Bret Heart etc

was this recorded from a BSB setup!!?? videos from the ASTRA system had horrible signal to noise ratios.
Kargaroc286 4 years ago
Nope, was taken from a standard ASTRA setup. If I do remember right, I used a Philips sat-box back then with a VideoCrypt embedded decoder.

Kargaroc286 4 years ago
