@MrThisIsMeToo You're right, gotta love Google for hiring cheap labor for cutting edge work. Also gotta love you for thinking Non White = Cheap Labour.

@Goodness250. Thanks I realized now. It's ok to use the google map on android as long as I don't travel. If I do travel , then it's better to get a separate GPS. That way I don't have to pay data charges.
it should act like a normal stand-alone GPS, provided the device has the chip. otherwise i would imagine it would have to use an address you typed in and work over the cell network or wifi
That's pretty legit. I doubt anyone REALLY needs this, and they already have phones with GPS in them, but it's still neat. I don't know about the price, though, lol. :)
A couple things that annoy me about Google Maps on Android..
1. No Google Transit, only driving directions.. makes it practically useless in San Fran.
2. No compass. It would be nice it it had a built in compass that told me which direction I was facing. I know for a fact the android has compass capabilities!
3. When I search a location, touch the balloon I get.. "Zoom in to address", "Directions to this address," etc. no auto street view???? Switching to streetview automatically zooms out. AH!
Hold that thought on the G1 folks. Windows Mobile OS will create a similar version of that Google street view feature soon. Don't waste your money on the G1, looks like a useless device!
If the video lasts 2:20 minutes, why the cellphone clock keeps showing 5:20 PM all the time???? Hummm. this remembers me the iPhone advertise, when access to the internet was much more quick than on the real world...
awesome. Combine this with auto wireless sync to gmail, google calendar etc....for free (unlike the crappy $100 mobileme service) and i think you have a very compelling phone..regardless of the hardware being a little less sexy than the iphone.
how do i stop maps from running in the background it uses to make battery and task killer does not help
omarlozoya100 4 months ago
How do you terminate a running Maps application on an Android phone? It's using up memory and drains the battery.

Does one using google maps on an adroid phone need to pay charges?
Or is it like normal stand alone gps units on cars where you don't have to pay for any charges?

@minehumbleopinion I was told by a Verizon rep that Google Maps is a free app, BUT all Android phones require a $15 per month data package.
