OMG! I was sooo in luv with this J.E.H. Since his tragic death I would every now and then look up his pics on the net. I will never forget him. Those eyes!
I wish voyagers became a big hit then he would not have been doing cover up and still doing voyagers I was only 12 when he died but o remember it like it was yesterday.
I really don't remember Cover Up...but I faithfully watched Voyagers as a teen. Jon was great. He had so much potential...that's what makes his story so tragic. It's nice to see other fans who keep his spirit alive. Jon will always be remembered. Thank you, Voyagersguidebook .
@thejimm2009 Thank you for the comment, :) Voyagers is my favorite, he was only in seven episodes of Cover Up before the accident. But when I did get to see those, I liked Mac Harper. But Voyagers had a lot of heart and everyone, including Jon himself said that he and Phineas Bogg were very much alike. I could definitely see that. He really enjoyed the role. I wish it would have lasted.
@ironmancwb In 1984 on the set of Cover Up, unfortunately after waking up from a nap he kinda fooled around with a gun with blanks. Apparently he was mimicking like someone would put a finger to their head as if to say-just shoot me-cuz there were so many filming delays. The paper wadding went through his temple and he was in a coma with no hope of recovery. His family took him off life support and he was an organ donor. He was almost 27. Since then prop gun laws on set have greatly changed.
@ironmancwb Oh yes, I remember when that happened, it really stinks. Like Jon-Erik Hexum, Brandon Lee was a growing talent, he had great looks and charisma. I thought he was a really good actor. When they talk about on-set accidents they always talk about Jon and Brandon together, cuz they were both very young and had real promising careers ahead of them.
@Voyagersguidebook Both Brandon and John Eric were both set to take off in their careers. So John Eric was almost 27? Brandon was 28 on the set of The CROW, only other difference being John Eric shot himself and Brandon was accidentally shot by another actor.
@videozfann Yes, Jon was about 10 days shy of 27. Yeah, that's the difference between the two tragedies. But with Brandon I don't think it was accidental, meaning, it was in the script for everyone at the table to be shooting at the crow. And this particular blank hit him in a vital organ. So sad.
@Voyagersguidebook Brandon was actually shot in the scene where the thugs invaded his apartment and he comes home during the rape scene flashback of the Shelly character attack in the beginning of the movie. The actor Michael Massee that played Funboy was the one who had the unchecked prop gun and fired the gun with the bullet that was lodged in the gun barrel and the blank powder explosion discharged it out of the gun barrel and into Brandons abdomen during the scene filming.
@videozfann Oh, okay. That explains why it was such close range and did damage. I always thought it was the big scene at the long table with all the gangsters firing at once.
@VoyagersguidebookYeah, There was much speculation for a long time as to which scene it was, I thought the same thing. The gangster shooting scene was biggest one followed by Mister Gideon in the pawn shop. It finally came out a few years ago as to what scene that it was. There is also a youtube vid on here somewhere if it is still up where MIchael Masse (Funboy) is interviewed and talk about it and what happened.

I still remember the day I read the news of this death. I used to watch Cover Up in which he was great. That day I was walking to my Aerobics class in Miami Beach, when I passed by a newspaper vending machine. There it was on the front page. I could not believe it. I continued walking but a terrible sadness invaded me. He was more than a pretty face. He had talent. His life was cut short but his light still shines bright. If not, we would not be here now. RIP Jon Erik.
@douglaz67 I agree to that. While I don't know exactly what it was like on the set, (There's never been any real talk about it) she had said in interviews that he was a great handsome young actor and had a lot of potential and would go far. I believe she was the one who picked him to play in Male Model...or maybe it was that she wanted him for a role on Dynasty. I forget. arrr. But something along those lines.
@douglaz67 I've never heard anything but positive things-Jon said she was a classy lady, and she helped him to deal with the press, in an interview he told Sue Simmons to be prepared for the media frenzy and how they would 'pair' them together because they showed up at a few premieres/galas together. Jon Erik Hexum had far more then a handsome face, he also, had a beautiful soul. I remember as kid the show Voyagers and was disappointed that it had only one season.

@douglaz67 That's a really wonderful thought. You summed up exactly what I feel about him and the accident in so many words. Thanks for watching & the comment.
Thank you so much for making this video and taking Jon's fans back to the beautiful memories of our favorite actor. I kept track of all of his work since I first saw him in Voyagers and was shocked for his early departure.
I remember him, what a wonderful actor and I remember being shocked when he died. Such a waste of talent. Who knows, he could be a major Hollywood star?
@HanzeUK I think so too. But I also think he would have done wonderful behind the camera. He was in the process of opening his own production company when he died. He would have wanted to make dramas, more human-interest stories, he liked those best.
I looked up to him as a role model in junior high and high school. Physically talented, intelligent, funny, handsome, kind, humble, a softy and a man of faith and loved his family. This is the guy you wanted to be when you grew up.
@SNola70 -and how can you be so judgemental and heartless to a accident you do not have the true facts to.
Jon Erik was overworked and overtired for such a long , working as long as 18 hours a day, going home not sleeping because he knew he would have to be up in a few hours again.
When you lacking a lot of sleep you do things you would not normally do, because your not functioning right. Jon Erik was not dumb but a very very intelligent man.
@kajehgb. You are so right. Nobody that could do the things he did in his short life could be dumb. A pianist, a driven and successful young man and a kind humble soul. I did not know him but I loved seeing him on TV. I was 10 when he died. He seemed to be the opposite of so many stars today. Not a drop of arrogance. And yes, you are so right. When someone is deprived of sleep for a long period of time, they do things that do not make sense and not normal. it was a sad accident. SNola70 = idiot
@veeseee128 Probably. When I think of Jon I think of water, since he was such a good diver too. I imagine him as Aquaman or sometimes even the 'Green Arrow'
Just chatting to friend about Cover Up & came hunting! the music show RAGE in Australia just played Holding out for a Hero which reminded me of the show & the dreadful accident...I have for years told people the story of Jon's death whenever guns firing blanks comes up in conversation. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
You just get the sense that he was a genuine guy. That there was a real heart underneath that body and face. I was sad in 1984 and watching this brought it right back again. RIP Jon-Erik you left much too soon...
@jagnyc It's completely worth it to own. Only one season, beautifully restored. I never thought I would see Jon in anything but fuzzy/blurry fan dub dvds. I saw the price on Amazon, it's less than 20.00 for a new copy. Thanks for the comment.
Oh... this video is so good it made me laugh and yet get choked up. I like the dance.. what Jon lacked in rhythm he more than made up for in gusto. The beach scenes were hilarious too. I could watch this over and over. Thanks a mil.
@stockjeepwrangler That's a good comparison! Howard Keel. I can definitely see Jon-Erik doing something like 'The music man' or 'Kiss me Kate' He did mention in certain interviews that he would love to do musical comedies.
Yes, he was a gorgeous man and I cried when he died. I was a little kid and I loved Voyagers. I remember this song and the promos with him on TV and this song playing. It really was about him. I clearly remember when he died. he was playing with a blank pistol, he placed it to his temple and shot himself. Sad yes, but not an unavoidabe death..in fact, probably could nominate him for a Darwin award. let's not elevate him to tragedy status. sadder things happen. Don't play with firearms kiddies
He was the total package. Unbelievable body, gorgeous face, sexy deep voice and terrific personality. Not a bad actor, either. I was so sad when he died so suddenly and unexpectedly. He'll always be young and beautiful in our memories.
Some of us do stupid things and live. Plainly, he had never had a gun safety course. Had he been checked on firearms he never would have pointed any gun at himself. I have 45 and 357 and I have seen 44 magnums fired. They are that powerful. This guy as young and dumm, but I have been there myself. Ask anybody who has ski dived, rapelled from helicopters, taken a cycyle up past 100 or
dived past 150. When your young your your immortal. He is now. God Bless.
I'm in love with him. It was one of of the most beautiful and sexy man of this Earth! I watch this video, his face and his talet and I can just say Rest in Peace Beautiful Jon! We miss you!
I was soooooo in love with the man! Hot dayuum! He was that pretty manly sexy! good lord, was he fine as hell! LOVED him on Voyagers and Cover Up. When he accidently killed himself, I was sooooo bummed. What a tradegy to have lost him.. Puts these new supposedly "hot" guys of today to shame I tell you!
Yeah, he was so talented in so many things and just had a handsomeness that I have yet to see surpassed by anyone in Hollywood today. Thanks for the comments.
I'm so sorry to hear that. Yes, death is really not fair. I just wish Jon wouldn't have fooled with that silly gun. It's so dangerous. Thank you for commenting.
Jon Erik was such a sexy guy and such a wonderful talent.. We both shared the same birthday November 5th. It was such a tragedy when he accidently shot himself to death. Rest in Peace Jon Erik. :'-) to this woman, you'll always be my "Hero"
So many feel the same way. This song is just for him. I think he had it in him to go really far in whatever he chose to do. Sorry for the late replies. Thanks for your comments.
I think this song was written About Jon Erik Hexum I remeber when He died I was in mourning for Weeks BUT some guy got his heart And that made him more Of a HERO
That's true. This song was already popular while he was alive and playing throughout the Cover Up series, but I think that it became Jon's own. It's for him alone. :) Sorry for the very late reply. Thanks for your comments.
The first time I heard for this guy was on TV Series "Cover Up", and it was in Bosnia. Every kid wanted to be a hero like Jon-Erik in Cover Up, even in back then comunist Yugoslavia. What a loss to the world.
I was a Cover-up addict and watched the same episodes over and over. So sad even now - he was my first massive movie star crush - I was 11 when he died, I felt like my life was over.
We'll never know what he wouldve done had he not died, but I think 1 role he wouldve been perfect for would be Chris in the Steve Martin, Roxanne movie. He wouldve been great playing a guy who's all looks no brains, even though we all know in real life it wasnt like that, of course. But he wouldve done alot more with that role than what was done and Im sure the part wouldve been expanded.
I haven't seen that movie in a long time, I'll have to check it out. Thanks. I know the he really wanted to do more dramatic roles, not necessarily superheroes and all..(who can blame him with the quality of 80's superheroes! lol) and he was saving to buy his own production studio.
@Voyagersguidebook YES I WAS LOVING THIS GUY OH SO MUCH, WE ARE BORN IN THE SAME YEAR SO I WAS 26 YEARS OLD WHEN HE DIED.. I REALLY DID LIKE HIM, SO SEXY AND CUTE, I WONDER IF HE WAS ALIVE WOULD HE HAD BEEN BIG AS BRAD PITT?/ BUT WE WILL NEVER KNOW...SIGH
when was dis tribite done could u giv me du year, are any of his movie stuff available,il never forget dis guy i used to watch his films in thee 80s i couldnt believ he died iwas only 9 i couldnt explain how i felt, days later i had a dream of dis guy iswear gods my witness he kind of smiled at me il never forget dis guy,im not gay maybe i wanted to be like him i doubt very much miss u jon the good die young.
I created this tribute back in 2007. All the clips I used come from 1982-1984 and are on the Fan Club Scrapbook DVDs. I know I've heard from a lot of guys, that Jon was someone to aspire to, at least physically and the way he presented himself, and stuff.
I haven't watched that vid in a long time. I totally forgot how great it is!! I love how you portray his entire career in it.
And the song is simply amazing. The composer, Jim Steinman, has written many great pieces. A few days ago I watched the musical Dance of the Vampires which was composed by him too. Total Eclipse of the heart is the main theme of the musical. The song was also one of Bonnie Tylers greatest hits. Like this one. Thanks again for the great video!!
I remember Jon Eric Hexum when I used to watch Voyagers as a kid. I remember thinking as a kid how hot he was. He had such charisma and he beats out many of the Hollywood hunks today.
Thanks for you comments and the one on my profile. It seems like everyone who watched him loved him, he did have the whole package. Thanks for watching my vids, hope you enjoy more of them. :)
I think he liked to joke around and was full of subtle ironies. For example, all those pictures where he is playing at a Narconon baseball field with the red, white hat. Narconon sponsors alcohol addiction, and yet there he is over there posing in a Miller BEER hat.
I think there is only 2, the one taken from Pm Magazine interview and there is another interview where he is already wet and dives down backwards with a lighted cigarette of all things, telling people to watch his series, Cover Up.
I'm a straight guy who used to watch Voyagers! in the 80s as a kid, and I can say comfortably that Jon is an incredibly handsome man. I wish I looked like this guy, he's amazing to look at. It's all the more gutting to know that he was kind of ordinary looking as a kid, but grew up to be so striking.
I know what you mean. I'm as straight as they come--I think Jennifer O'Neill is a babe in this show, but I know when I'm beat, and there's no way I could ever compare with Hexum...or even his replacement Hamilton for that matter.
Hey guys, don't beat yourselves up, it takes a lot of work to look like that! LOL...So I hear, always gotta be at the gym, and Jon did have to get his nose fixed because he broke it more than once, plus they did cap his teeth, other than that...genes..good strong genes, lol. I imagine it can be tiring after a while. I only hope that Jon wouldn't have been one of those horrible botoxed, plastic surgery faces today. He looks like he would have aged well, and he wasn't so into his looks.
It wasn't for vanity, but if you look at his earlier pictures, you could tell he had broken it, and he had admitted to breaking it twice, I think in H.S. and College because of the football. Whatever they did, it looks like it was kept close to his original nose, because it was just a fix...not trying to get a new nose like the stars today. He didn't need to, lol.
That's very true. People need to learn to see the heart, not the outside. Anything can happen to make you lose your looks. I think of all the celebrities running to get plastic surgery, injections and all that, and they look far worse than anyone remembers them.
Thank you. It´s so good to look up up things, themes and people you liked and de able to find info etc on the topic and Voyagers was a series i loved in my youth and when I heard he had died, i was really sad. I had read at the time his heart was donated to a man in need of one. I wonder if he´s still around? sorry if I sound weird. Well I really enjoyed these videos. Thank you.
Hi, you don't sound weird, thank you for the nice comment. :) The man who received his heart died back in the mid nineties I believe. Glad you enjoy the vids, feel free to comment on any.
when it comes to looks alone, i think Jon Erik blows all the heart throbs of today eg brad pitt, matthew mccaughney etc straight out the water!!!....what a beautiful man he was, its such a waste he died so young
yes, he is just breathtaking to look at...i find it weird though, cause the pics of him when he was a child, especially the baby pic, the one at 4:53 and the one at 5:14 look nothing like him!!!..he just looks like an ordinary looking boy, but then he grew up into a beautiful swan!!
I received your comment Voyagersguidebook.lol...but for some reason its just not showing up on this vid....i agree,he was NEVER ugly, but i guess as soon as puberty kicked in, it was like WOW, where did this beauty come from?!!....i checked out the footage of him in 76...he had a really deep voice even from then!
Oh my Lord yes...SUCH a shame Jon died so tragically! I remember him very well in the 1980's! I just read online his mother gave permission to donate his organs to quite a few people & children who were dying, across the U.S...He is now living through them!
jon -erik Q.E.N.P.D TE RECORDAMOS Y TE AMAMOS FOR EVER FROM COLOMBIA S.A.
Jon-Erik Hexum died in 1984 just before he was 27. He was on the set of his show Cover Up and accidentally put a prop gun to his head, not realizing the power of the blank cartridges. He fell into a coma and died. It was so sad, because he was very well loved and on his way to becoming a really big star. He was definitely charismatic and beautiful and had a humble, good heart, which is kind of rare these days and with many models/actors. He took his craft very seriously, but not himself.
I remember this guy of Jon Erik Hexum and the famous "Male Model" movie he made with Joan Collins. It's a pity what happened to him. And very tragic too. He had very pleasant looks and he really seemed to have the looks of a man model. Roxie Rover or Clover from the TV show of "The Jeffersons" was in this Male Model movie with Hexum and Joan Collins. She played Mrs. Willis on "The Jeffersons".
He would have been more popular than Tom Cruise today. I have no doubt he would have been a very versatile actor, able to play comedic, action as well as dramatic roles. I have no doubt he would have been a superstar.
Whatever it was, he had it. He had all the qualities of a superstar. When he died, I continued to watch the show. Eventually, I stopped because the show because wasn't the same without him. I'm sure everyone else on the set knew it was just a matter of time before the show were be cancelled because he made the show. He was it's star for a reason. I do remember him. I liked the show Voyagers. Good show.
Thanks for your comments, I agree with you in all respects. Jon had the talent and drive to do whatever he wanted. It really is a shame about his tragedy.
great video! i loved watching Voyagers as a kid! JEH was like the perfect big brother to kids my age back then! he was such a nice, sincere, genuine, fun loving, happy go lucky, and humble guy. so talented - act/dance/sing/diving/comedy. those back flips he does are crazy! i love the "Dance Fever" clip at 3:48
he had so much promise and talent and he had so many hopes and dreams. it's so sad and such a waste and a tragedy that he died so young. so sad i read in the probate papers he saved $2,500 to start his own production company with 50 shares. he had big dreams that he never got to realize. he was a good man. i believe that we all meet up in the end so we'll see him again. let's all try to enjoy life and live life to the fullest while we can-it's the only way to honor those who can't. best wishes!
Thank you for the thoughtful comments. The back flips floor me, love em! I tried to capture 'The best of...' in this video, while keeping it peppy, fun and upbeat, like I imagine he was. :) Yeah, he did seem to have big goals and dying young is a real tragedy. I to believe we will see him again. Take care! G.
I've been on a voyager kick all day...haven't seen it since I was a kid.....it's so hard to believe that it's been almost 25 years since his death..I don't even remember him dying in 84....the guy had a mature voice on him for a 26 year old...he would've been a great actor had he lived.
this man was sooooo beautiful, its a shame that such a young life was wasted, i mean look at him, he's so pretty, if the father of my child looked anything like this guy i would be bursting with pride
I love this! It's nice to know that people still remember Jon Erik. I was 11 when he died, but I have always remembered him from Voyagers. It was my favorite show as a kid, and I have enjoyed watching it on DVD as an adult. It's nice to see all of the other things he has done. Thanks for making this video, I never get tired of watching it.
It's so wierd seeing another person with my name, Jon-Erik. Lol it's not common AT ALL. My innitials are J.E.H.

HanzeUK 1 year ago
@HanzeUK I think so too. But I also think he would have done wonderful behind the camera. He was in the process of opening his own production company when he died. He would have wanted to make dramas, more human-interest stories, he liked those best.

Jon Erik was not dumb but a very very intelligent man.
doing tricks for girls, that's new to me?
kajehgb 1 year ago
SNola70 = idiot
free2drm 1 year ago
@SNola70 -Jennifer O'neill, said they worked as long as 18 hours a day.
This was a tragic accident, A ACCIDENT! And Jon Erik was a very intelligent man who knew about the dangers of blanks.
Sounds like your JEALOUS OF HIS GREAT LOOKS AND TALENT. Know the facts before you condemn this man.
AND DUH GO TO THE SCHOOL OF COMPASSION, CREEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hexum probably invented the handstand dive.
His profile looked the same before and after
he broke his nose playing college football.
1st a male cheerleader then a football player.
What a contradiction.
Atheistsmass 2 years ago
I think he liked to joke around and was full of subtle ironies. For example, all those pictures where he is playing at a Narconon baseball field with the red, white hat. Narconon sponsors alcohol addiction, and yet there he is over there posing in a Miller BEER hat.
Voyagersguidebook 2 years ago
All the stuntwork and sports injuries he had probably made him more absentminded.
Atheistsmass 2 years ago
How much video footage is there of Hexum
diving? I think he invented the handstand dive.
I counted how many rotations he did coming
down in this videos dive .One.
Atheistsmass 2 years ago
I think there is only 2, the one taken from Pm Magazine interview and there is another interview where he is already wet and dives down backwards with a lighted cigarette of all things, telling people to watch his series, Cover Up.

I'm a straight guy who used to watch Voyagers! in the 80s as a kid, and I can say comfortably that Jon is an incredibly handsome man. I wish I looked like this guy, he's amazing to look at. It's all the more gutting to know that he was kind of ordinary looking as a kid, but grew up to be so striking.
gothatway09 2 years ago 8
I know what you mean. I'm as straight as they come--I think Jennifer O'Neill is a babe in this show, but I know when I'm beat, and there's no way I could ever compare with Hexum...or even his replacement Hamilton for that matter.
rtghffdfdg 2 years ago 3
Hey guys, don't beat yourselves up, it takes a lot of work to look like that! LOL...So I hear, always gotta be at the gym, and Jon did have to get his nose fixed because he broke it more than once, plus they did cap his teeth, other than that...genes..good strong genes, lol. I imagine it can be tiring after a while. I only hope that Jon wouldn't have been one of those horrible botoxed, plastic surgery faces today. He looks like he would have aged well, and he wasn't so into his looks.
Voyagersguidebook 2 years ago
Thanks, I guess that helps a bit.
rtghffdfdg 2 years ago
He had his nose done?! That's news to me, where did you read that? ;)
bluecanvas2 2 years ago
It wasn't for vanity, but if you look at his earlier pictures, you could tell he had broken it, and he had admitted to breaking it twice, I think in H.S. and College because of the football. Whatever they did, it looks like it was kept close to his original nose, because it was just a fix...not trying to get a new nose like the stars today. He didn't need to, lol.

That's very true. People need to learn to see the heart, not the outside. Anything can happen to make you lose your looks. I think of all the celebrities running to get plastic surgery, injections and all that, and they look far worse than anyone remembers them.

Yes, I agree with you.Anyone can lose their looks

Willis on "The Jeffersons".

he had so much promise and talent and he had so many hopes and dreams. it's so sad and such a waste and a tragedy that he died so young. so sad i read in the probate papers he saved $2,500 to start his own production company with 50 shares. he had big dreams that he never got to realize. he was a good man. i believe that we all meet up in the end so we'll see him again. let's all try to enjoy life and live life to the fullest while we can-it's the only way to honor those who can't. best wishes!
