@frankiejHC i'd be keeping the ps-5, probably not using it in the same set up with a ps-3, but i've been trying to mimic some stuff that an eventide pitch factor can do with my ps-5 and a delay, would this work better?
@TacooGrill I'll tell you this... The PS-3 isn't an intelligent pitch shifter nor does it track as well as the PS-5. If you plan to try to mimic the pitch factor your going to need something that tracks very well: the PS-3 not being one of them. To me the PS-3 is like a little modulation multi-fx unit; it does delay, chorus, pitch shifting, reverb, a weird flanger, octvator, and it has mode 7. It's a great pedal but for what your asking, I wouldn't recommend it. Hope that helps!
that sounds pretty sick. But do you know how to work the harmonizer with distortion? I've been trying to get it to sound like dual guitars but it sounds all like... computery. I've been trying to get it as close to Bullet For My Valentine's "Hands Of Blood" at the beginning. Could you possible help?
@Kardflow Ummm, well by nature the PS-3 isn't the most natural pitchshifter. It's a bit glitchy and doesn't track as well as other pitchshifters. Sorry I can't be of help.
I have this pedal as well and it seems that your favorite settings are ones that can be achieved by using a delay pedal... I also like the 6 with settings at noon but I can get that sound from my RV-3 and still use the PS-3 to alter the pitch or harmonize. GREAT VID BTW!
Does this work well enough as an octaver? (I realize the PS3 isn't an octave pedal, but..) - ie, could I drop the pitch down enough to play bassier notes?
To tell you the truth, I think it would work just fine if you're not too picky about how good it sounds. The tracking is delayed a tad bit and sounds kinda flat. For a bass like sound you could go 100% wet and drop it -1 or -2 octaves.
The -2 is a bit weird but I think it would get the job done....just wouldn't be the best function to use it (the pedal) primarily as, if you know what I mean.
In my opinion the best pedal ever made by boss,,,i am looking to get e second one!!!!!!!!!this pedal is from another planet!!!!!!!so when boss realized what he made,,they stop the production of it because nothing else pitch-shifter delay can compare with that pedal...
@washburn7x : considering I ran it through my AC15, no you should be fine. It just lowers the octave. Your speakers might rattle but its nothing to worry about in my view.
I was thinking of buying a eHX POG for a bucket load of cash, but might get this instead. Never heard of them till half an hour ago. Hopefully I can find one.
Very nice man. I had one of these when I was younger and stupidly traded it in for a bass mutli fx unit, stupid i know but i had no idea what the potential of it was. Im trying to get another one theyre awesome!
Ive been actually trying to find that setting. Sadly, i have had no luck. Im sure if i got it down to which mode its in I could figure it out. I havent had much time lately so..
i bought this pedal for the octaves only. i wanted a pedal that could get me a 12 string guitar sound. unfortunately i didnt get what i wanted. yes i do get the octave ups but it sounds so.. how do i describe it. just wrong. the 2 octave up is the most irritating sound ever. makes me wonder is i should have gotten the ps 2 instead. at least this pedals delay is pretty decent
From what ive heard, the Ps-2 has a very dirty delay side. Also the people ive talked to that have owned it said the pitch shifting modes of the pedal were god awful. Haha, ya the two octaves up isnt really usable but if you like to make some noise its interesting to say the least.
Hi, if you don't want yours I'd gladly buy it off you. Sounds like you're after a PS-5 for a 12 string sound and proper pitch shifting. Behringer have released a copy - the US600 - that is only about £35
i own one of these and am sort of regretting it. none of the unique sounds are very useful. They are either atonal or the delayed pitch shift is too muddy sounding. Any suggestions for settings? All I've got is using mode 7 with a lot of delay and a volume swell to make ambient sounds....but i could do that with just a delay.
Thanks! ive seen them on ebay anywhere from 150-210 depending on the condition. That being said i got mine for 135. The price just seem to be going up and up.
ya its getting a bit out of hand with the price. If you look around and come across one for like 100 or so. Id say pick it up...well worth 100 bucks. Hell, its worth to me more then what i payed for it. Its one of those pedals that ill keep forever.
Man, you should come to Kuwait, it's one of the shittiest places concerning guitar gear (All you get are a couple of Yamahas Ibanez's Squires and Samicks, you also get Roland gear which is pretty decent) But guess what, this pedal costs 22 KD (not on sale) which means that's about 79$ and it's brand new not second hand, I'll probably buy it for the fact that I can for that little money lol =D
Damn, thats pretty sick considering they are up to like $150-200 here. Ill never buy them at that price point. But id deff pick it up for any amount under $100, well worth it.
These things are so rare I would buy it no matter the price. I play the drums and I would buy one. I've got to say, of all the pedals that I've heard and fucked around with, this one is one of the best. Besides Dwarfcraft's Shiva and The Great Destroyer. I've never seen a Starve function exploited so great on those. But the PS-3 is beautiful. When you get the one up five up going on bass, it's like the perfect ambient sound. I don't understand why Boss discontinues all of its good pedals.
but boss currently is producing a ps-5 "supershifter" with even more features than the ps-3. I haven't played a ps-3 or ps-5 but I don't think boss would go around discontinuing popular effects to replace them with pedals that they didn't feel improved upon the original.
Well, the PS-5 and the PS-3 actually differ quite a bit. It all depends on what your looking for. From what I've seen the Ps-5 will track a bit better then the PS-3 and it also has the trem arm setting. But the PS-3 has mode 7, which believe it or not is why most people buy it. Its the one feature no other pedal produces. Some come close but not spot on.
yes, Mode 11 will do this. I dont own an Expression pedal so that mode wasnt featured in the clip. The Exp out only works on mode 11 though. But im positive it gives you the possibily to have the heel be -1 octave and the toe be +1 octave.
I have no first hand experience with the PS-2 but ive heard the pitch shifting side of it is pretty bad compared to the PS-3. Most of the people ive talked to use the PS-2 for its delay, ive heard its very lo fi. So if your looking to cope some PS-3 sounds, sadly the PS-2 wont reproduce them. So they are pretty much two different beasts.
I havent had any exeriance with other volume pedals but this one seems to be quite smooth. I didnt notice any treble lose like some Ep Jr users complain about. It may be a bit hard at first since its so small, it deff takes some getting use to.
Does the reverse pitch shifting continue to trail if the pedal is disengaged mid-shift?

@salchaw I believe mode 10 is the dual pitch shifting mode where you can set one to octave up and one to octave down.
