Randy, you make it fun to watch you demonstrate a pattern. I am going to buy your CD for use in my drum studio. Thanks for devoting your time to make us all a better drummer. Jim
some drummers play very well your own style, and you play very well but you have spirit for any style, rock , funky etc , and thats its realy amazing, nice man!
This videos are funn and heplful, I think you could make them a bit shorter, so you could show more grooves in each video! Any way, they're fun to watch. Is it me or do I sense some Gadd's influenece?
my old drum teacher would have said look at the ride pattern, notice its just quarter notes, put that on auto pilot and notice all that's left is a snare and bass, just two pitches.
i like the way the toms sound you should put that in one of your videos you made a video of how to tune a tom but it didn't sound as good as the evans one
how do u find playing with a watch on? for me i noticed its seriously annoying. more because i play alot of really fast paced stuff and switching across the kit fast u tend to noticed it flop from side to side or just nag u to let u know its there. i think its a "weight" more than anything... . does it effect you at all 2?
this may sound a bit stupid, but if i'm practising and my kits not even miked up it's pretty loud, i wear ear protection but should the other band members? thanks
It's always a good idea to wear ear protection when playing with a band (unless you play lounge / slow jazz with brushes maybe). You only have one set of eardrum :)
Hey. I use ear plugs made of moulded silicone. They are quite expensive, but fit perfectly, and dampens the entire frequency spectrum evenly. It's like turning the volume knob down. With standard foam plugs, you experience uneven damping, which gives bad sound quality.
If you don't use protection, you run the risk of getting tinnitus. And there's no cure for that.
Of course you have to protect your ears, ear plugs won't even show. Without ear protection you won't be able to play drums in a few years, or even that.
This is a great beat, I can't wait until I get a few minutes behind the kit and play around with it. Thanks for sharing! I wish more guys on youtube would share stuff like this instead of just showing off. Music is about community, not competetition!
Thats nice. Thanks for the positive comment. I am am sure there are some other videos on YouTube that are not as Shitty that will help your drum playing. RVP
Another great lesson and I especially appreciate the notations you are now adding. It's infinitely easier than stopping the video to count and write it out the notes as they are played. It's also great way to learn the basics of reading and how a passage looks as well as sounds. Keep it up, I'm never bored!
I think you should start a video series that teaches how to drum from very beginning like setup to tricks that you have learned to advanced. Also if you could be very straight forward and be like this is next get it down and then move on to my next video and have it build off what you have taught ... WOULD BE AWSOME !!!! .... that is how i learn best im not a self learner.
Great beat! I hope to see a video of how you come up with such creative fills to go along with beats. I saw the vid about fitting the fill with the beat and it was helpful.
what is that hit hat thing your doing around 4:43 you mix it in with the fill its a quick couple of hits and theres some bass invovled and a ghost note on snare? just not sure what exactly it is ive seen alot of people do it but no has ever covered it o the tube

that was awesome but how do you do those fills that you threw in there? they sound pretty technical.

Cool groove.
A dotted note just means that note lasts it's original value plus another half of it if anyone is wondering.

Hows your hearing after all these years of playing drums?
do you / have you ever had prolems or concerns etc; would you recomend wearing protection when performing even at the risk of looking a doofus.
I've got my first ever band practice tonight and a recent ear infection has scared me into paranoia. haha.
Thanks -
Lewis.

Ended up wearing headphones for practice last night since it turns out the kit in ths studio is a shoddy e kit.
But for live gigs when can i get a pair of those silicone ear plugs?
Nashokadow 2 years ago
Yes, yes, yes wear them!!!! I always wear them when gigging or practicing with a band. I learned the hard way. RVP

Of course you have to protect your ears, ear plugs won't even show. Without ear protection you won't be able to play drums in a few years, or even that.
