I suspect this "live" performance wasn't live. Listen to the album recording and then listen to her performance here. They're identical! Whitney was likely singing to her own track on stage, but there wasn't a lot of vocal effort put into it. Ya know when Whitney begins to climb into her upper belting range? ..you notice her throat tightens up and her jugular vein will sometimes protrude. Also, her lower jaw will tremble slightly when her vibrato kicks in. None of that was present here.

Oh, my GOD....listen to this angel breathe. This is the woman I resisted loving because of the hoopla/ instant fame that came after her first album. (Compact Discs were in the beginning stages.) But after the release of her third album and hearing "All The Man I Need", I finally gave in to the VOICE. I love her beauty, purity and the clarity of her vocal gift. She is NOT lipsynching. You can clearly tell she is singing live. They're playing a backing track behind her, which is why it fades at the end but she is live. That should be obvious from the number of vocal cracks/flat spots she had toward the end. I doubt a sync track would include that. Whitney Houston is the type of vocalist who can sing live and sound THAT good. I know that comes as a shock considering the crap we have now. And I maintain that this isn't lipped. i am aware that she lipped sometimes early in her career before she became so lauded for her live performances, but in my opinion this is not lipped. There are subtle differences in tone, the sound of her voice, the color/timbre. And those cracks and flats spots are NOT in the studio version. At least not the ones I'm talking about.

Usually when people make broad statements like the ones I'm reading here; they either like -10 female artists or know nothing about singing. Whitney is a GREAT singer. I've respected her since I started singing (kid/fan) and respect her abilities today. But Whitney is NOT the best female vocalist ever. Seeing that disturbs me. People need to be more informed.
