You know, a while back I ran into an old friend of my sister's who told me she would be spending the Winter in Montana. Recalling this song, I actually told her that I had heard it wasn't a good idea. But of course, I didn't tell here specifically where I got that info from.
mentioning Sherman in Savannah is like mentioning Hitler in Germany. Bad juju! Sherman's motto was the only good Southerner was a dead one, he felt the same way about Native Americans and he didn't like black people much either. He was a evil guy, cruel, ruthless, and without mercy or a soul.
But from the singer saying that you should always keep your eyes peeled, that's true, but you should exercise your other senses as well -- namely your senses of hearing, touch, and smell.
Hey i love this song, Is it a parody? If so, What song is it suppose to be a parody of? I danced to this everytime before going to pre-school. I wish i could find this for mp3 pre-schoolers should see this clip. What year in the 80's is this from?
Seriously, find me another show aimed at 4 yr olds that has smoke machines, falling pianos which people just look at, and the sound of bombs exploding
Awesome. This is my all time favorite Sesame Street song. I haven't heard it in over twenty years...back when I was in preschool. Thank you for this. BTW: the "don't mention Sherman in Savannah" line had me in tears. I never caught/understood that line as a child.
Indeed, especially because that's what the word "Danger" is. It's a warning to be cautious about your surroundings, and whenever you see the sign, you better immediately back off. After all, it's okay to take risks, but make sure they're good ones, because when it comes to taking BAD and even DANGEROUS risks, there are no winners in the game, only losers.
About the female muppet on the hanging piano at 1:48 , what do you think are the odds that she survived that fall? I would say it's a 30% chance that she lived.
In regards to the Muppet on the hanging piano at 1:48, what are the odds that she survived that fall? I would guess that she had a 33% chance of survival.
The female muppet on the hanging piano at 1:48, what are the odds that she survived that fall? I would give it a 33% chance that she didn't die from it.
yeah, been 17 years, but after seeing this numerous times as a child, i still like the song. but i could never figure out what the heck that thing was hanging back there (lol..)
I remeber this songs, after watching this over and over now, I would think of it as it was World War 3 just about to start, with smoke grenades, tanks, which starts after a girl droped down on a piano
I remember this song and I loved it when I was little still. How Now Brown And The Moo Wave rock I love this song and Wet Paint because they both make me want to dance. Wet Paint and this song Danger's No Stranger was scary. They where both scary when I was younger but they aren't scary no more. Do How Now Brown And The Moo Wave still perform this song and Wet Paint on Sesame Street? Because I would love this song and Wet Paint on my I pod and my phone. I give this song and vid 1000 stars.
It's difficult to tell in this video because of the reduced quality, but if you look very closely at the window to the upper left of the drummer, there's a muppet dancing behind a window shade. My sister and I always pointed this out and laughed at it.
I thought this was a mockery of Depeche Mode- listen to the chorus of 'Strange Love', and 'Dangerous'. I could be wrong, I am sure there's much more that influenced this song but ti reminds me of them most.
this was a spooky one too. along with wet paint this song scared the hell out of me, but i always loved watching it. the quality of the song is great and the lyrics do such a good job of getting the message across to kids and it is also enjoyable looking on it as an adult. being a kid in the 80's was so great with stuff like this, square one and reading rainbow
I second that. I few years back I used to work at a PBS TV station and we had a TV in the front lobby that always had PBS on and I can tell you that kid's shows today are such a disappointment. Today's shows try to teach children ideas and concepts, but they are just not as inventive or creative as they used to be...or...they come off as really creepy and/or a really, really bad acid trip (i.e. Teletubbies and Boo Bah).
The other cool thing about this clip is that in the 80s, SO MANY artists between 1983 and 1985 made videos on the streets with the night/darkness look, from Janet, MJ, Maurice White, Lionel Richie, Corey Hart, Jermaine Jackson, tons of bands, other groups, etc.
That's true. I can see a little bit that How Now Brown's hair reminds me of Peter Macnicol's hair from the movie "Dragonslayer" which was a movie in the 1980s.
Woah. It's 1989 and I'm sitting in my living room with my sister in my Dressing Pretty ballerina costume watching Sesame.
Yeah. I was scared of this one as well. The red DANGER [of course, all in caps] and the guy hanging from the piano. I considered it one of my faves cuz it was scary but I loved the song [I've been singing it for about 19 years now.. wow.. I'm old!]. Classic ss at it's best. 5 stars! Huzzah!
This is great!! I wonder if anyone has the song ...stones on the street... they don't need to eat, they don't breathe, they don't grow, they don't learn, they don't know.. what it is what it means to be alive.
Close but wrong, the song desertwoman is thinking of is a cartoon of two birds observing a stone and singing about various things that're alive unlike the stone.
i attribute SS for many of my finer qualities, growing up in an age when the tv was the moral ruler (not that that hasn't changed a lot!) New SS is so politically correct and homogenized in comparison
This rocked when on Sesame Street. I was born in 1980, and I remember this segment really well.
Sesame street of the 1969 thru 1992 was really cool. I remember Mr. Hooper who died in 1982, and I remember him well........and not repeats - I mean him for real.
man this is bad ASS!!! i love this song and video. very dark and creepy for kids. the red danger sign is very scary for little kids. best line "dont mention sherman in savannah" im sure parents were howling laughing when they heard that. of course kids didnt know what it meant until years later. awesome! thanks for uploading this. wish there was a way to download the song id love to have it on my ipod!
For those who asked: During the American Civil War, General Sherman and his Union troops marched from Atlanta to Savannah, capturing both cities and destroying pretty much everything in between.
I definitely loved this song when I was a kid. I just listened to it and I find it cool. I think it's a bit dark creepy with the explosions. This song should have been on the billboard 100. It's so cool!
Most may like "Danger" by Little Jerry best, but I grew up with this song. I guess I'm more of a Chris Cerf fan (Little Chrissy and How Now Brown mainly)
OMG "Don't spend your winters in Montana (and the Sherman line). This is one of my absolute favorite Sesame clips of all time. I used to love it when this clip came on. Considering I haven't seen this in probably close to 20 years and I have had this song stuck in my head off and on since then says something! The floating danger sign didn't scare me but the explosions at the end scared me half to death. This is definitely a dark piece for being a Sesame Street clip.
I think this was in 1983 or 1984! When I was a little boy, I thought the muppet said "read that Danger Sand" - I was like WTF!? Now I know he really said "read that Danger Sign" - British accent threw me off and there was no closed caption back then!
Hey Azone, thank goodness you responded to this clip..help me out my fellow 80s brother...LOL..what song (i'm sure it's either a new wave or pop song) did this "Danger No Stranger" clip parody after? Me and my nephew are banging our heads trying to figure it out, as it sounds like a bit of Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night" and some song by Duran Duran, but I'm not sure.
my guess would be when you were a little kid you considered this an actual song by a pop artist. now that you're nostalgically looking back on it you think it reminds you of a different song, but i'm pretty sure this is original along with wet paint. the beetles parodied the beatles songs like "let it be" - letter b
DARK for Sesame Street?? SS during the 70's & 80's was always out there. (the writers must of been on some good #$@!) Most of the old clips would never fly this day and age.
I always thought this was one of the coolest videos. They need to get rid of this "Elmo's World" s#!t and replace it with such videos as this. I do no
You know, a while back I ran into an old friend of my sister's who told me she would be spending the Winter in Montana. Recalling this song, I actually told her that I had heard it wasn't a good idea. But of course, I didn't tell here specifically where I got that info from.

those vehicles are only two-dimensional props. But yes, they scared me as a kid. The explosions and the danger word coming at you didn't help.

The same vehicles from the Don't Walk song

Doesn't the music video kind of remind you of the music video for Michael Jackson's "Beat It"?

I remember crying because the guy fell with the piano...I thought they killed him!
Coscaa 4 years ago 4
Well, he was sitting on top of the piano, so who knows? Maybe he got lucky.
Garrettk41 4 years ago 2
Yeah, I always hated the scene where the guy is hanging from the piano. Talk about disturbing!

Yes...I remember this one! A bit dark for sesame street...but still a classic.

I think this was in 1983 or 1984! When I was a little boy, I thought the muppet said "read that Danger Sand" - I was like WTF!? Now I know he really said "read that Danger Sign" - British accent threw me off and there was no closed caption back then!
Azone01 4 years ago
I heared hat wet paint was out in 1984, so I think this was out in 1983
Skyoneer2007 4 years ago
Both songs came out the same year,1984.

Hey Azone, thank goodness you responded to this clip..help me out my fellow 80s brother...LOL..what song (i'm sure it's either a new wave or pop song) did this "Danger No Stranger" clip parody after? Me and my nephew are banging our heads trying to figure it out, as it sounds like a bit of Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night" and some song by Duran Duran, but I'm not sure.
marcusrob02 3 years ago
my guess would be when you were a little kid you considered this an actual song by a pop artist. now that you're nostalgically looking back on it you think it reminds you of a different song, but i'm pretty sure this is original along with wet paint. the beetles parodied the beatles songs like "let it be" - letter b

DARK for Sesame Street?? SS during the 70's & 80's was always out there. (the writers must of been on some good #$@!) Most of the old clips would never fly this day and age.
snuggie007 4 years ago
The 1980s was the dark era, IMO, as well as the early 1990s
wiley207 4 years ago
Thats why it was the best.
We need tobring it back!

I loved this as a kid, but the red "Danger" signs used to scare the CRAP out of me... Not really sure as to why, LOL!

I always thought this was one of the coolest videos. They need to get rid of this "Elmo's World" s#!t and replace it with such videos as this. I do no
