  • Please tell me how to write the names of the zodiac signs in Kiswahili. Thanks!

  • How do write the names of the zodiac signs in Kiswahili?

  • Question for author: I'm not very clear on the "r" pronounciation. You seem to say it in the "english" way in Habari (like the word run) but more of a short sharp rolling r in "Mzuri." Are rs pronounced differently in Swahili depending on the word?

  • I enjoy languages. I have learned a few words in Swahili from YT vids and from a few friends.

The biggest difficulty with the language, as with all non-English languages, (for me) is that it is spoken so very quickly.

  • i'm going to africa soon in the summer

  • I love african people, they are so happy and kind all the time. I also love when they smile!

And Swahili is, along with many other african languages, a very beautiful language in my opinion, if I am going to study a new language it would be Swahili!

And the music, it just makes me chill!

I really have to visit Africa again soon!

  • I love Swahili, my fave language.

  • The perfect kiswahili is spoken in Zanzibar(kiunguja).

  • Kenya man

  • I think swahili has arabic influence. My guess are habari is from khabar (news). Tafadali is from tafadhdhal (be my guest). etc. Am I mistaken here?

  • Swahili is a mix of arabic, english, and native african languages.

  • Swahili is mix of many languages. Word comes from Arabic (Sawaahil = coastal), East Africa especially area around Zanzibar Islands, Kenya and main land Tanzania was a frequent destination for traders from around the world. So many of our words and foods come from those traders.. so kiSwahili is a conglumeration of many world languages... check my info. under kulmansam here in UT

  • You are not mistaken :) I come from Zanzibar where there was more Arab influence and so the kiSwahili spoken in Zanzibar is a little different.

I have posted my own learning here on line.. look me under kulmansam

  • Asante sana, bwana!

Where can we get any more of your videos?

  • I love this video and the Swahili language! The only thing is, the spelling flashes very quickly and it's hard to catch how to write the words. I have trouble learning unless I can read the words, so I had to go over the video several times and try to pause when the words show up. Maybe if you make another video, you could slow down a bit and leave the words up longer? Thank you very much for making this! Asante sana!

  • asante sana :)

  • You are the best, I have found it to be very clear. Is there any more videos. I hope to go to Kenya next year to see if I can help the children there. Asante sala Owhataford
