@Squalestang92 You'd think that but unfortunatley I still see one of these every day, it hangs around near my work in a disgusting faded orange! It's so ugly
well actually no they should be Honerd like the First generation is.
The Mustang II litteratly saved the breed and with-outh it, the Name would've been forgotten. People hated the Mustang 2, simply because it was better.
that would be interesting if they came out with a retro type say 2013 or 2014 model year but i bet that car design wouldn't pass today's safety standards oh well nice to dream right??
@ViciousAlienKlown It wasn't a victim of the gas crunch. It was a victim of Ford moaning and complaining about the gas crunch and taking the easy way out by dropping the compression ratio.
@straightedge442 Dropping the C.R was more related to the smog laws imposed at the time, also due to the fact that cars were required to run on unleaded gas which was crap in terms of octane rating. At least you can do something about hopping up most of the Ford V8s from the 70s, except for some of the mid sized V8s like the 351M and 400, maybe those too.
@pdennis93 Notice that Ford mentioned that the "base" model was priced less then last year. Whether it was really a deal or not would depend on what features the 1977 base model included verses the 1978 base model. To tell you the truth I don't think that the Fox bodied Mustangs are that much of an improvement, basically a Fairmont with different lines and a cool name which they milked to death until the late 90s. Hmm tasteless early 70s styling verses tasteless late 70s early 80's styling
The Mustang II makes a great platform for a street performance car. I built a '77 II with a 530hp 332" stroker V8, and the car weighs less than 2500 lbs. I have some vids uploaded. It will smoke the tires in high gear at 50 mph.
@davshaw5 Especially anything made bewteen 1979 and 1984 or so, at least the 1972-78 stuff can be modified to run decently after that they added too much electronic garbage and hoses to make it worthwhile.
Someone offered me a 1979 Chrysler 300 once saying that they "needed to find a home for it", an interesting car but basically a trim package for a Cordoba, then I was quoted the price of $2000 and my response was that there isn't a 1979 anything worth $2000 (well maybe a Ferrari)
@dadsbabypu Very true. My first car was a 77 Mustang II Ghia. Hated the car after it broke down numerous times, and finally sold it to somebody real cheap. I called that car "the terrible two". The only redeeming factor looking back is Jaclyn Smith from Charlies Angels drove a car like this one in the TV show in beige with a black half vinyl top with a fake leather interior. She looked good that is for sure. BTW so did Farrah in her Cobra II
Ugly car for sure ,bad engine ,cheap accesories,yeah go home mustang...that few years anyway,all the way up to 85,

I owned a 78 mustang and it was a bucket of bolts, it had a 302 though that had some power. It definitely was victim of the gas crunch.

@1980Prod
Nope, Lee Iacocca.. and Ford eventually fired him for it :)

@1980Prod The Mustang II looks more like Homer's neighbor, Ned Flanders, designed it. A real "geekmobile' to say the least.

P.S., I think that'sa what the 78 Mustang did best...CUT OUT!

The late 70s, and basically all of the 80s were the worst years for American cars. Just sad.
