Which webcam do you have? I turn off rightlight on my logitech quickcam pro 9000 and turn all the sliders all the way to the left (low light settings).... minus side
I suspect that the FPS is so low because of low lighting. If you light up the room, tracking will improve drastically, especially for that brown fingertab.

i think you should slightly move your webcam a little so that you won't pick up all that stuff on the shelf.
and i think it's better if you stay in the cam (without your fingers) while the cam is setting up, so that it won't pick up your shirt either
