Maybe I blinked too long, but I didn't see ANY Kurt RAMBIS in any of these clips? : ) This was B.ball at its best, nothing since has come close to the glory days of Lakers Celtics in the 80s!
what the fuck are u talking about jmcgp20? ur a retard in saying the suns can win a title in the 80's. the suns of the 80's will kick the shit out of ur suns today. 80's basketball is all about fundamentals, teamwork, guts, pride, high octane offense, less defense but the reality is, no blood, no foul. u put kobe, lebron and dwade in the 80's, they will look just mere mortals.
Another reason scoring today is down is because offensive fundlementals have slipped. We dont have the great centers anymore. The low post game is a thing of the past.
We have 7 footers in the NBA that want to face the basket and shoot 3s and fadaway jumpers. Low % shots.
Thats why scoring is down thats why shooting % are down. Its not really better defense. Today`s offensive players have more flash but are less efficent. They take lower % shots.
The game has not evolved. Players dont run faster or jump higher. They just depend on their athletism more.
Scoring is down and shooting is down. Not because of good defense but bad offense. The Midrange game is gone. Players now either drive for a dunk or shoot a 3.
A 3 pointer is a low % shot. The best are only going to hit 40% or less. Guys are jacking up 3s not and missing alot of them. Instead of pulling up from 12-15 ft and nailing an easier shot.
The 80s Lakers were great for their time BUT they would not have a title if they played in the 90s or today. Why? They played no defense and in the 90s and today DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. No one played defense in the 80s.Hey Ill admit they were fun to watch but you cant win a title playing thay way in todays game. Just look at the Suns the last few years, now if they played in the 80s they would have a championship.Simply put THE GAME HAS EVOLVED players are faster, can jump higher, etc.
You think the Suns would have won a title in the `80s? They would have been no better than the Denver Nuggets from that era? They ran and played no defense.
The Lakers were a fastbreak team that also had a great half court offense. Kareem was unstoppable, Worthy was unstoppable.
The Lakers won 5 world titles and made it to the finals 8 out of 10 years of the decade.
The Milwaukee Bucks from the 80s would win a championship today. Moncrief, Marques, Lanier, Bridgemen, Winters, Lister.
The Suns definetlely would have won a title in the 80s!Just watch the games and look at the scores,NOBODY PLAYED ANY DEFENSE IN THE 80s,not just the Nuggets.I know the Lakers had a great offense and they would still be a very good team today but eventually they would run into a defense they never saw before except for maybe the Pistons who swept them in 89 or the Bulls who wiped them out in 5 in 91!
@JMCGP20 - I love it when kids pass judgment on the 80s through some internet highlights. :-) Just for your info, the Lakers had '87 defensive player of the year in Michael Cooper, a shot blocker in Kareem, the steals leader in Magic (early 80s), and players who had all-defensive team honors in AC Green and others. Also, the Lakers were always ranked in the top 5 in defensive PPG and / or FG%. The Suns didn't have ANY of those components on defense.
Everything is better in the 80's. I honestly think this 80's Lakers team is the best in NBA history. They would have easily killed the 90's Chicago Bulls team.
Lakers won 5 Championships in the 80's. They had no Jordan that would score 50. They had 5 guys that would often get 20+. They played team ball. No drama (Kobe Shaq) on that team. Magic's name fit him well.
Kareem, Magic, Scott, Worthy, Rambis!!..versus.. Bird, McHale, Parrish, Anige, Johnson!! The Lakers/Celtics rivalry of the 80s was priceless. They really hated each other back then, and that's what made it fun to watch. It won't be the same w/the 08 version, but its gonna be fun to watch!! :)
80's Lakers were unstoppable TEAM. They would have wiped the floors with 90's Jordan teams who relied on HIM to win. Riley continuted to work on the DEPTH of the Lakers bench through the 80's and would win playing the rest of the team with Magic or Kareem on the bench and bringing new players in each year. Magic had more Triple-Doubles than MJ had highlight film moves.
Funny thing is people nowadays always talk about the Suns when they talk about fast paced, offensive teams. The Lakers would blow them out of the water, it would've been a laughfest.
@Raford146 thats right and not only did they out score you they hold you down in scoring to . there is a nice gap from their opponent scoring to their scoring :)
im in middle school and all i hear is " Lebron,Kobe, Dwade,Tmac" THE NBA SUX NOW its all about big contracts and slam dunks. People don't know how to play d or play as a team. The Showtime lakers were the best at this and thats y they r arguably the greatest basketball team ever.
55 out of 60 years they have been in the play-offs. THINK ABOUT THAT! REALLY! THINK! Well being a die-hard Lakers fan I have to disagree about greatest pro franchise. It has to go to the Yankees but we are a close second. Celtics could have been but had to many bad years recently.
the 1980s lakers owned they ran passed and put relentless pressure on opposing teams for 48 minutes. but they could also play tough half court offense and were good enough on d. i thnk lakers had best game ever overall. kareem with the half court offense, magic and runners filling the lane, clutch when it was necessary. no one style of play could work for long against them because they could turn to different things. when they got Mychal Thompson to help kareem wow
1986-1987 Laker team best team ever, if only because it was Magic's "best" season as the MVP, Cooper was Defensive MVP, Worthy was in his prime as one of the premier forwards of the era, Scott was doing his thing and Kareem could still bring it and he had Mychael Thompson backing him up...1986 Celtics and the 96 Bulls would have to round out the top three...after that maybe '72 Lakers, '83 Sixers, Bulls '92, Lakers '85, Lakers '00, Sixers '67, Knicks '70, etc.
Maybe I blinked too long, but I didn't see ANY Kurt RAMBIS in any of these clips? : ) This was B.ball at its best, nothing since has come close to the glory days of Lakers Celtics in the 80s!
