@BRITLEGEND77, So in answer to your question; there's nothing the fuck wrong with me, I just think that 'Britain' will be swallowed by policies between BRIC, EU and the US. And if we're not a major player in the EU, we're just a reminiscing about 'the good old days' and picking up the scraps.
All we've got is the remains of the Commonwealth, and Africa is going to the highest bidder in case you haven’t noticed - they 'aint following any patriotism motivated loyalty towards us.
Rule Britannia is great when you're the biggest empire in the world, not when you a modern competing overpopulated/bloated-economy nation constantly dwarfed by states with bountiful resources and growing economies.
@BRITLEGEND77, Patriotism is the hiding place of the cruel said Oscar Wilde. Truth is, without the quoting of dead gay guys, Britain is a nation that needs to think on a grander scale. @jrobertsoneff are you for real?? I can for one say that Australia is one of the richest rescourced countries on the planet. We have currently an unprecedented mining boom with strong deamand for our commodities from Asia, a close neighbour. We have oil, uranium, iron ore, gold, etc etc the list goes on. In fact the state of Western Australia alone has the ability to seperate itself from the rest of the country and prosper on the back of its own wealth. What did we fight for in 2 world wars?

Norway had referendrums on joining the EU, the results ended in 51-49 to the no side. Instead we joined the EEA agreement, (EU member, without benefits), which we pay for, to access the internal market, and by extension, EU regulations. No chance to alter the specifics of those laws though (only veto them, which has never been done.)
We pay the same (possibly more) as members, and get fewer benefits. Why? Because someone convinced farmes and fishers that they would lose to foreign imports, and that foreign fishing fleets would immedieatly fish all the fish. They spent millions on advertising to convince people of this, resulting in barely a "No" victory. And no, the yes side did not spent nearly as much.
Funny how now, the norwegian farms are not doing well, while the finnish, who joined the time we said no, are doing well.
I think the UK should concentrate on the Commonwealth and get the hell out of Europe. EU just won't work for the brits. Get out of there while you still can.
Personally, I think a lot of British People still want to think of Britain being characterized as the British Empire - red London Buses, pound notes and poor oral hygiene. I think if the *Tories had their way; the poor would row Britain out into the Atlantic Ocean and stand to attention whilst the National Anthem plays as Blighty slips below the waves. Progress however, means accepting than our neighbors, and *our economy are intertwined.
Also, immigration is such a dichotomised an issue. So many countries are suffering, or at least feel they are suffering, from the influx of immigrants. This is not an EU issue, it a global-socioeconomic issue. In some ways you could argue that the EU is a movement in the right direction to solve immigration, because opening boarders to who is classified as 'foreign' and reducing that notion of 'foreign'
EU States already work well together, and historically (apart from the odd war!), do work well. Just Look at the Euro-fighter. EU Nationalism is one way of looking at it, but UK, especially the British, seem to have a strange aversion to the rest of Europe. EU Nationalism - or just those with pride in being European?
I also don't see what is the problem with admitting that European's are more similar to one another than Europeans to Africans, Americans etc (not talking ethnicity here, just culturally). Whether you are German, French, British, Irish we all seem to follow the same tastes, goals, objectives. I don't want to keep going on about Oil etc, but it is obvious that the EU and the EU States are more committed to Renewable Greener Energy than most other big states.
I see the EU, and the UK in the EU, as a excellent way for the UK to reassert itself in the international arena (plus leading the way in alternative resourses infrastructure set-up). I'm not saying all our problems will be solved, but we stand a better chance of UK people being represented by the EU, than by under the umbrella of the US - which is the current situation.
Of-course, getting EU politicians in that will do that is the big question.
The UK wil loose its influence in the international arena if it continues to be int he EU. I fail to see how being 1 member state of 27 is having influence. We will simply be railroaded into decisions, outvoted time and time again in the council - what better example than the working time directive. And as the Union expands so will the UK influence be diluted further. We will become a complete non entity, and lose almost total control of our own destiny, and no longer live in a democracy.
...are mainly in Africa, the continent with the least (proven) hydro-carbon resources. Even the US is having trouble maintaining its dominance in Saudi Arabia. They've [the US] have even got Our solders fighting for them to maintain Their dominance.
Recourses, to me, are the big and paramount National/State issue. Africa, the Caspian Sea region and of course the Middle-East are all under attack from China, India, Brazil, US, Russia and Japan. And as I said, most of these are using state-backed firms to 'help' their foot-hold. Where does the UK sit in this arrangement? All the big Euro companies (Dutch-Shell, British-BP, French-Total, Italian-Agip)...
The UK has little international power. You're right this has been the UK's failure to maintain political alliances within the Commonwealth. But this has not been a domestic failure completely. The global system has become one giant marketplace, and Commonwealth countries have just moved in the marketplace. Which is one of the major advantages of the EU.
Economic security nothing. The Euro is as vunerable as any world currency. There seems to be this dream the the Euro is exempt from economic downturn. It isnt. If we adopt the Euro we may as well hand over the keys to the Bank of England and cut out the middle man.
Political muscle? Which they never use. At least not in our interest. When our embassy staff in Iran were taken without proof, what did the EU do? Wagged their fingers slightly and then leave us to the utter ineptitude of the Brown leadership. Which of course has done nothing. In fact they use their "muscle" mostly on us.
The reason for the xenophobe comment is quite a-lot of the time when I'm discussing the EU with fellow Brits/UK's, I find, deep-down, they're just afraid of handing power over to 'foreigners'. Which is a big shame, as we're a lot more closer to our euro-friends - than who we seem to want to please all the time (I think you can guess who that is). But yo're right - it was a bit of a cheap shot.
LEVYbrain the problem I find with Eurofanatics is at heart they are EU nationalists. There is a patriarchal allegiance to the continent ahead of the rest of the world. Forget Little Englander, Little European fortress Europe is the new phenomenon. There is a good argument to say that Britain's current immigration policy is a racist one. Ifyou are European then come and go as you please. If you are not European then you are subject to completely different rules, we will treat you differently.
You're assuming what the UK wants, is opposite of what other EU states want though. Yeah, sure, that may be the case for certain decisions, but not over all decisions. Anyway, there is little difference between the current system and that anyway. But I see your point. It means keeping closer ties with other EU states as a solution (which is kind of the purpose of the EU). Remember, we pushed around by outside EU states too. The US constantly gets the UK to do its dirty work within the EU.
Good answer. Never apologize for something you can back up and believe in.
And really thats understandable. People on the continent are simmilar to us but at the same time vastly different. When you've been to the continent as many times as i have you realise just how different. We will find common ground, but we also have key differences. The French "par example" seem to have great belief in their Beaureaucratic institutions.
Also the Italians and French share a remarkable capacity for minding their own business. And perhaps this is why the EU does not work for the UK. It is a system which plays to the strengths of "continental Europeans. Contrary to we British who have a profound hate of Beaureucracy (probably due to our inherant lack of patience) and rarely mind our own business.
Some radical politically correct leftist might see my comments and interpret xenophobia, but it is undeniable that there are both bridgeable and un-bridgeable gaps between different nations and cultures. You'd be hard pressed to find evidence to the contrary. I also do not label by race. I find it irrelevant and imprecise, and very un-ethical. You can find out alot more about someones character by their culture rather than their "race" which in itself is a misnoma.
As much as 25.6% in the '80's. Remember US Steal? Who was it that managed to get the WTO to declare them [import duties] illegal? Wasn't the UK that's for-sure!
Most of the trade restrictions imposed by the EU were towards Africa and the US too. The US imposes similar Protectionism strategies on Africa. This was in retaliation to the US trade restrictions that all the single Euro states had to put up with, until the EU was able, by force, to get these restrictions dropped. The UK, with its "Special Relationship" with the US had to put up with massive tariffs.
If you look at the global climate, resources are the main area of concern and Britain is so heavily reliant on imports, to not join one of the biggest economies in the world just leaves the UK as a tiny Financial Services Provider - hoping the US give us some scraps!!!
Wrong again. Some of the worlds biggest exporting nations are members of the commonwealth. And the thing is the EU actually restricts our trading with other countries. It doesnt matter that we can get it cheaper from the commonwealth, or that the trade will help their development as much as it will ours. What matters to them is that they are getting a criminally cheap deal.
If by the Commonwealth countries that are the big exporters, you mean India, Canada, Pakistan, South Africa and a host of smaller African and Pacific Island Nations - then I wouldn't be so confident.
For a start, India/Pakistan are leaning more and more towards China as their main 'friend'. The US and Canada already have put plans towards a North American free-trade delimitations (NAFTA) and have a de-facto single currency, and the
And that is just an example of the Labour Governments negligence towards our best and allies. It is a crime that relationships with the commonwealth are not stronger.
I'm all up for the EU, because when it comes down to it the US won't be supporting the UK and the EU - they'll be our direct competition. It's becoming more-and-more dog eat dog, and it the EU that gives the UK a greater stake in geopolitics.
I think it was Roy Hattersley who said "environmentalists want to stop the world and get off" (or words to that effect), I feel now it's the economists who are looking for a way out!
Of course certain politicians are wanting centralised governments, and of course others don't. But the benefits of the UK being in the EU surpass the negative. One thing that has plagued the UK for the last 10-15 years has been the US leading the way for the UK, and getting it wrong.
Most of the big players (Russia, India, China) are using State owned business too. Only the US and the EU is sticking to Private operators. Countries like the UK will be left behind in the resource squabble. Plus, single European States present little to no opposition to States like Russia who can simply turn-off Our [Gazprom gas] resources (like they did to Georgia, Armenia and the Ukraine that effected Germany, Italy and France too).
And North Sea Oil and Fission energy are finite. NSO is already, by UK figures dropping in production. Uranium is also a mainly Russian derived recourse, as is our next big energy source, coal.
We are Aung sun suu kyi !!! The United Nations is the great power of the patent? Why not help democracy in Myanmar, the Myanmar military government to release pressure on AUNG SUN SUU KYI? The EU and USA is not a democratic country it Big Brother?
Free mrs.Aung Sun Suu Kyi..Than Shwe to step down!!Than Shwe than animals!!
what about the asian and black people who were brought in from slavery or came over after ww2 who saved the nation because so many men were dead we had major problems of to few workers?
What about the decendants of them? What about gurkhas?
what about the children of the men and women who battled for this country in the world wars, the people who went half way round the world to fight for a place they had never seen? Because being british is more then being born here and being white
Greetings from Poland... unfortunately most of our "politicians" brainwash my countrymen... they have TV, radio and deep pockets ... hard to beat them but I believe that people will open their eyes and put things right ... guys with our ideas and views are called "backwards" and being constantly mocked ... on the other hand no one said that it would be easy anyway :) ... so ... let's stand up ...
Historically you've never had it so good just get on with it with life, don't fall for nationalist card like the brits, the enemy within are the men of cloth.
for your info as a country we were three times as big as now :) almost 1m of square km... I want to live in a country where you have regard for free market and freedom ... EU is some artificial creature wanting to imprison its own citizens by high taxes, funny directives and so on ... long live bureaucracy!!

The European Union and Parliament are Fundamentally Flawed and Fundamentally Incompatible to the Wish of the People of Europe which has been Proven with the little piece of Democracy it has allowed the People to have! It is in No Way in the U.K Interest to be in it is nothing more then a burden yearight1970 enjoy your Guardian because the E.U? yearight2010
BNP / Ukip are two edges of one sword, just look at "PeaceiHatetheword" profile, a typical Ukip supporter, a right wing chelsea thug with links to ulster loyalist terrorist groups. These bogus interviews made for utube are made to make Ukip look like a rational party, their first agenda is to get out of EU build then build a strong military and pretty soon we're back to where we were 70 years ago.
yearight1970"Peace i hate the word" Is a Shakespearian Quote but you already knew that right? Two major mistakes in One Comment the Word Ignorant comes to Mind.
I see no racism or war mongering for sure. You see, he does not keep his favourites or words privy to millitary or nationalist topics or videos. He has political elements as well. Besides, you yourself strike me as a stereotype from the opposite end of the spectrum.
I would say to Our European neighbours lets go back to a Trade agreement. Lets have trade agreements with China, America the Common wealth etc We Do not have to suck on the teat of a European Organisation who does not listen to its own people we do not need to be told what laws to make how to farm etc. I again demand the U.K Pulls out of this Farce Which is the European Union
You call me a nationalist which I don't deny but I am not a protectionist I am not anti European I am a positive realist and have Simply high lighted how the E.U Does not Work and is Not wanted by the people of Europe they keep voting No and like a bully the Joke that is the E.U is it wont listen.
Well I Never an aggressive little Prick On You Tube what a surprise lol Yearight1970 You are nothing but a keyboard hard man lets look at what you just said You ask me to go to Iraq which by the way we are not in and get murdered by a man who is loyal to a dictator. Why say this? Because you don't agree with my political ideology or at least the Truth that the E.U is a Sick Joke which the rest of Europe was lucky enough to get a referendum on and Voted NO on three consecutive occasions!!!!
That is Nonsense what we are attacking is the fact that the European Union/ Parliament has changed over the past eighteen years from the idea of a common market agreement.
To an unaccountable anti-democratic Organisation that spits in the face of logic and presses ahead with its Bulldozer agenda to Turn Europe into an Unwanted United States of Europe. We need to have a Great Trade agreement with the World But its Time to Pull out of the E.U. the U.K has had enough of the tripe.
I think your name "Peace i hate the word" says a lot. I think Nationalists like yourself should stick to watching "fight them on the beachs speaches" on you tube, or why dont you join the british army and die for your country in iraq go on.. you'll be a hero when you come back in a coffin.
Now lets Get your point you seem to have this misguided anti American idea that the U.K can not go it alone without the elitist unaccountable Bureaucrats in Brussels telling this country what to do.
It's strange you would concider me anti American, just because I said USA would call all the shots in the world, I would have thought everyone would agree they have been in a unique position fiscally since WW2 and especially since end of cold war the US$ is king. You would have to be anti american not to agree with that
Britain doesn't need the EU. We are member of the Commonwealth of Nations which is a group of 53 countries that make up 2 billion people and 35% of the world.
Norway don`t need Eu, switzerland don`t need eu, canada,Australia don`t need EU( it is a global world),. Eaven iceland wich have big burdens under the finacial crisis agree that it is worse to join eu. No one needs EU yust the policians and poorer countries wich get money from the rich ones in the union.

That man only wants to leave the EU because he hates German and as an American of German heritage I think it;s evil to leave the EU just because most Brits can't get along with Germans.
Everybody who supports UKIP must make a donation in order for the party to expand. It's not too much to ask as they are doing all the work on behalf of everybody. Please visit the UKIP website, look towards the right and you'll see Make A Donation. Please donate whatever you can afford, no matter how little or how big. By donating.. you are doing your bit too.
The President of the German liberal party FDP in the European Parliament, Silvana Koch-Mehrin, said last week : "if the EU itself applied for membership of the EU, it would be refused. The reason would be: no democracy".
This week a report was leaked by a British liberal MEP showing that MEP's can pocket a million Euros from 5 years at the EU "parliament" from scams/fraud/false bookkeeping.
Roll on June's elections...vote for anyone willing to fight the un-democratic & corrupt EU system.
Erm, there is a commonwealth. The Commonwealth of Nations, 53! former British colonies who manage to have incredibly useful trade agreements, without giving up their sovereignty to an unelected Oligarchy that wants to standardise every aspect of our lives. It's the only proven method of world piece, it has no legal system and Nigel Farage had a father at birth, so no, not evil, not imperialistic, and not a bastard. Why not know what you are talking about, before making comment.
the amount of times ive had to return something back to the shop to get a replacement because it didnt work is fucking amazing. I wondered why this was. Was it just my bad luck picking up broken goods or was it the shop had purposely been selling faulty products...the answer folks...neither. the problem was as always in font 8 on the underside of the packaging
Conservative run - Kent social workers and 'childrens trust boards' are spending thousands of taxpayers money on overnight stays in posh hotels out of their departments budgets ,which they control, at a mere £2000 a time - have they no shame? Kent Messenger 13/2/09
All paid for from the £millions profit made from 'Forced Adoptions' that all Parties condone by doing nothing to stop it .
Why can't we make widgets in Birmingham? Why do we buy our shitty little plastic cross of st George flags from China? Why does the UK have no industry?
We lost all that when we joined the EU. Our governement under Heath, lied and decived us (with the collusion of the BBC, ITV and the papers). We lost all our industry, and were forced to build a false economy based on house prices, banking, and debt.
Have tom say, I agree entirely. Yet, this is never mentioned when discussing the state of the economy. All this bullshit about 'it's a global economy now' - like it's an unstoppable force. Well look at the crap it's got us into at the moment! -We own and produce nothing. How can that be good for the economy? -Particularly now, when it's gone belly-up worldwide.
I'm encouraged by this post and all the responses. There's nothing wrong with government-to-government bilateral agreements they worked for hundreds of years.
UK Out NOW! Free trade Only. Restore our Fishing fleet Rebuild our manufacturing Restart our farimng Investigate the Treason Arrest the Police who refuse to investigate Ban corrupt politicians Secure our borders, and allow controlled immigration! not a free for all. rebuild our national industry!! And END RACISM! Britain for all the British, governement for the people by the people. No to dictators. no to glabalisation! no to the LibLabCon Con.
I mean the deliberate action of allowing mass immigration, and granting of additional rights over the indigenous population. The continuous news coverage showing terrorsist bombings, muslims protesting, extremist preachers, awards for breaches of rights, powerless to stop them entering etc... I am saying do not let repeated news coverage affect your true thoughts. It is unbalanced an provacative!
The people of this country need to unite and fight greed and corruption!
Excellent video. It is argued that is we left the EU? We would lose half our trade? I strongly believe that is wrong, because if we left the EU, we would freely trade again.Freely trade without foreign control from the EU and freely trade without the fear of prosocution for breaking EU laws. If we left? We would gain more trade than the EU can ever give us!

LEVYbrain 2 years ago
I also don't see what is the problem with admitting that European's are more similar to one another than Europeans to Africans, Americans etc (not talking ethnicity here, just culturally). Whether you are German, French, British, Irish we all seem to follow the same tastes, goals, objectives. I don't want to keep going on about Oil etc, but it is obvious that the EU and the EU States are more committed to Renewable Greener Energy than most other big states.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
I see the EU, and the UK in the EU, as a excellent way for the UK to reassert itself in the international arena (plus leading the way in alternative resourses infrastructure set-up). I'm not saying all our problems will be solved, but we stand a better chance of UK people being represented by the EU, than by under the umbrella of the US - which is the current situation.
Of-course, getting EU politicians in that will do that is the big question.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago

LEVYbrain 2 years ago
Recourses, to me, are the big and paramount National/State issue. Africa, the Caspian Sea region and of course the Middle-East are all under attack from China, India, Brazil, US, Russia and Japan. And as I said, most of these are using state-backed firms to 'help' their foot-hold. Where does the UK sit in this arrangement? All the big Euro companies (Dutch-Shell, British-BP, French-Total, Italian-Agip)...
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
The EU economy has the potential to be one of the strongest in the World. This puts the UK, if it is in the EU, in a great position, globally.
This is what I meant by economic security.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
We are living in a Global economy not just a European one. Being in the EU restricts Britain doing business with the rest of the world
ukipmedia 2 years ago
The UK has little international power. You're right this has been the UK's failure to maintain political alliances within the Commonwealth. But this has not been a domestic failure completely. The global system has become one giant marketplace, and Commonwealth countries have just moved in the marketplace. Which is one of the major advantages of the EU.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
Tell me what are these disadvantages compared to economic security and political mussel?
I wonder if you're just another Xenophobe.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
Economic security nothing. The Euro is as vunerable as any world currency. There seems to be this dream the the Euro is exempt from economic downturn. It isnt. If we adopt the Euro we may as well hand over the keys to the Bank of England and cut out the middle man.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
Political muscle? Which they never use. At least not in our interest. When our embassy staff in Iran were taken without proof, what did the EU do? Wagged their fingers slightly and then leave us to the utter ineptitude of the Brown leadership. Which of course has done nothing. In fact they use their "muscle" mostly on us.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
And really, calling me a xenophobe. I would have hoped you were too smart not to fall into such an obvious cliche.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
The reason for the xenophobe comment is quite a-lot of the time when I'm discussing the EU with fellow Brits/UK's, I find, deep-down, they're just afraid of handing power over to 'foreigners'. Which is a big shame, as we're a lot more closer to our euro-friends - than who we seem to want to please all the time (I think you can guess who that is). But yo're right - it was a bit of a cheap shot.
But I stand by my original comment.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
LEVYbrain the problem I find with Eurofanatics is at heart they are EU nationalists. There is a patriarchal allegiance to the continent ahead of the rest of the world. Forget Little Englander, Little European fortress Europe is the new phenomenon. There is a good argument to say that Britain's current immigration policy is a racist one. Ifyou are European then come and go as you please. If you are not European then you are subject to completely different rules, we will treat you differently.
ukipmedia 2 years ago

EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
Also the Italians and French share a remarkable capacity for minding their own business. And perhaps this is why the EU does not work for the UK. It is a system which plays to the strengths of "continental Europeans. Contrary to we British who have a profound hate of Beaureucracy (probably due to our inherant lack of patience) and rarely mind our own business.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago

LEVYbrain 2 years ago
Most of the trade restrictions imposed by the EU were towards Africa and the US too. The US imposes similar Protectionism strategies on Africa. This was in retaliation to the US trade restrictions that all the single Euro states had to put up with, until the EU was able, by force, to get these restrictions dropped. The UK, with its "Special Relationship" with the US had to put up with massive tariffs.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
If you look at the global climate, resources are the main area of concern and Britain is so heavily reliant on imports, to not join one of the biggest economies in the world just leaves the UK as a tiny Financial Services Provider - hoping the US give us some scraps!!!
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
Wrong again. Some of the worlds biggest exporting nations are members of the commonwealth. And the thing is the EU actually restricts our trading with other countries. It doesnt matter that we can get it cheaper from the commonwealth, or that the trade will help their development as much as it will ours. What matters to them is that they are getting a criminally cheap deal.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
If by the Commonwealth countries that are the big exporters, you mean India, Canada, Pakistan, South Africa and a host of smaller African and Pacific Island Nations - then I wouldn't be so confident.
For a start, India/Pakistan are leaning more and more towards China as their main 'friend'. The US and Canada already have put plans towards a North American free-trade delimitations (NAFTA) and have a de-facto single currency, and the
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
And that is just an example of the Labour Governments negligence towards our best and allies. It is a crime that relationships with the commonwealth are not stronger.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
I'm all up for the EU, because when it comes down to it the US won't be supporting the UK and the EU - they'll be our direct competition. It's becoming more-and-more dog eat dog, and it the EU that gives the UK a greater stake in geopolitics.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
I think it was Roy Hattersley who said "environmentalists want to stop the world and get off" (or words to that effect), I feel now it's the economists who are looking for a way out!
Of course certain politicians are wanting centralised governments, and of course others don't. But the benefits of the UK being in the EU surpass the negative. One thing that has plagued the UK for the last 10-15 years has been the US leading the way for the UK, and getting it wrong.
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
And the benefits do not outweigh the negative. Not by a longshot.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
Most of the big players (Russia, India, China) are using State owned business too. Only the US and the EU is sticking to Private operators. Countries like the UK will be left behind in the resource squabble. Plus, single European States present little to no opposition to States like Russia who can simply turn-off Our [Gazprom gas] resources (like they did to Georgia, Armenia and the Ukraine that effected Germany, Italy and France too).
LEVYbrain 2 years ago
Gazprom is the continent's problem to be brutally honest. As much as i hate relying on North Sea oil and nuclear power, we have both as fallbacks.
EurocratsComeNotHere 2 years ago
And North Sea Oil and Fission energy are finite. NSO is already, by UK figures dropping in production. Uranium is also a mainly Russian derived recourse, as is our next big energy source, coal.
