Ok, time to get hated on. I installed a megan racing top strut on my 05 wrx, I didnt torque anything down to anything specific. Did I mess up? And on the bar I did the same thing. Just bolted it all up. Am I skipping any sets
24ft lb it the torque spec listed from Subaru on the strut top bolts. (this is not a critical measurement. Just tighten them without breaking them)
The larger bolts in the brace itself can be tightened to 40ft lbs. (again just tighten them there is not need to measure. Tight is good enough. This is not a critical measurement.)
sorry confused :P how tight are the strut tower bolts ? and than do you tighten the adjustable tightening bolts on the actual brace its self to 24lb ft ?
It makes the suspension layout more rigid. when you turn, the strut towers that you can see in the bay, actually flex, and move, that indicates the lack of torsional rigidity. When you put the bar, it links the two, to make them move together, or not move at all, which means your steering efforts go to the road, not to your car leaning in a turn.
If you lift or otherwise remove the car from a perfectly level(in the planes of X,Y, and Z) surface, you shift the entire front suspension, however slightly. Everything bends.
Strut tower brace installs are best done on the ground, within 2 degrees perfectly flat in every direction.

shouldnt the front wheels be off the ground b4 you remove the tower bolts -_-;;;
xkjnboix 2 years ago
No. If the wheels were off the ground the strut would drop into the fender well when the bolts are removed.
When installing a strut tower brace it is best to leave the vehicle on the ground.

strut bars are not that necessary

pardon my ingorance, but what do those strut tower braces do the car's stability exactly?

Every new vehicle should come with a strut tower brace. I don't see why they don't.
Or at least make it a factory option.
It DRASTICALLY increased stability in my 1997 Maxima when cornering or using on and off ramps around the city.

without a rear sway bar, it'll just increase the understeer, but i agree with you

That car comes with a rear swaybar??!!

All cars come with a rear swaybar.

Yeah I have a 2009 Impreza 2.5i- so explosivejesussauce's comment doesn't make any sense.
bdub232 2 years ago
@TouchMyWeenis Nope, the 2.5i doesn't come with a rear sway bar. I was referring to that in my previous comment a few months ago

Hi, just wondering. Wouldnt it make sense if you lift the car, so the bar fits natrually. Thus a proper fit? Tiny adjustments do count!
