  • A #1 hit for Sylvia on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 266th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #3 on the Top 40 charts and #14 in the United Kingdom. Sadly, Sylvia left this world this past September. Sylvia, thank you for the memories.

  • Back in the day sex promotion. But very classy

  • I'm gonna keep it real. I was 15yrs. old when this song came out and I was so confused as to why my panties was always moist after listening to this song. After asking my oldest sister, I was told that I was just "growing up". Thanks Ms. Sylvia for being a part of my life while going through puberty and bringing out the woman in me! R.I.P.

  • im reading a book called The Big Payback (The history of the business of hip hop) and it says that she shelved this song after Al Green refused to record and release the song. About a year later she was looking thru old tapes and a big box fell and smashed her foot. The tape "pillow talk" she had previously recorded was in that box, and she looks at her husband and goes "thats a sign, this song is a mother fucking smash" lol. just thought id share..

  • @dimpsey3 Prior to her involvement with Rap music, rap was local to New York and commercially unorganized. Rap was made by isolating the instrument portion of the record and then speaking over the record. D.Js would do this simply by using a turntable. She said that one night she was at a night club in New York and notice how the people were responding to the D. J.

  • Next, she told her son Joey that she wanted to make a rap record and asked him did he know any rappers and he introduced her to Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike, and Master Gee who were unknown rappers and unknown to each other at the time. These guys were from New Jersey and the rappers from New York did not know them either. She was truly in the music business. She not only made records, she wrote, produced and had her own company, Sugar Hill Production where she produced music.

  • Evelyn I miss you like crazy I still love you

  • I supposed she was white and blonde, don´t know why. Great song from the 70´s.

  • LOL... I can't take a woman talking to me this way. LOL She will run things. LMBO

  • this was a sweet soft romantic song indeed , I was just a kid and still love the smooth sensuos vocals and arraingments like the girl from ipanema.......Good string players wow..........

  • Sooooo sexy ! I was just a little fella, but her moaning made me hot as fish grease ! I love this song !

  • RIP you beautiful lady with a sweet voice im in tears........LOVE YOU MISS SYLVIA

  • @RoseIsRee Awww did she pass away?? I didn't know RIP I loved this song for so long

  • RIP. What a beautiful voice!!!

  • We need to hear more of this style of music today. I'm sorry, but what I hear out there on commercial radio sounds like it was inspired by a pinball machine! Sylvia came from a generation that did MUSIC. not sound effects and mind-numbing repetition!

  • I miss WGPR in Detroit with John Mason in the morning. They took him off to put on some bullshit hip hop shit! They use to play stuff like this.

  • @kdshenderson I know. Now we have to listen to satellite radio to hear real music.

  • @kdshenderson I was raised in the motor city, ohhh, wgpr was the station, I remember Jonh Mason and crew, used to blow it up with jams, I visited my brother in July 11, and I must say Detriot still have the bomb radio stations, they play music that I had to go searching for in the SD.

  • @kdshenderson I agree......we here in the D are suffering from the loss of WGPR to Radio One.........them bastards

  • @kdshenderson Wow now you're bringing up memories there! Such a great morning show! Mitchell Ave DE'TROIT!!!!

  • RIP TO THE PERSON WHO STARTED HIP HOP.....YES,HIP HOP WAS STARTED BY A WOMAN......NOT A MAN! RIP SYLVIA...

  • @classy1973 Nah, Hip Hop started in parks and burned out buildings. All due respect, she just started a label that made Hip Hop mainstream. CLUE: Grand Master Caz

  • EVERYONE USE MEDIAFIRE!! STEPS: 1 GOOGLE 2 TYPE SYLIA PILLOW TALK MEDIAFIRE. 3 DLOAD FILE. ONE DLOADED IT WILL BE ON YOUR DESKTOP. 4 RIGHTCLICKFILE GO TO OPEN SAY OPEN WITH ITUNES. IF ITUNES DOESNOT APPERAR ON THE LIST GO TO CHOOSE PROGRAM.

  • Body & Soul is a music paradise

  • She co-wrote this song (and one word is: She financed the project as well).

  • OMG. I remember this song, I was just barely in my teen.

  • this is prolly top 5 definately of all Disco songs of the '70s,, has to be , I guarantee.

  • ...now this is what i call the smoothest sounding recordings ever!!!!!!!!

  • I really don't enjoy that song because of too much unholy eroticism. I prefer the early Sylvia Vanderpool when did "Dearest" and "Love Is Strange" with Mickey Baker, better known as Mickey & Sylvia.

  • i love this song and im only 22 years old, its has a cool ass vibe, just wondering is she of hispanic descent? she speaks spanish at the end

  • @TheMaciel89 wow , there is hope for the new generation yet :)

  • One of the smoothest jams I can think of! RIP Sylvia Robinson!

  • BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, SENSEOUS!! THIS IS MUSIC, TOTALLY UNLIKE THE GARBAGE OUT TODAY!!!! LOVE, LOVE THIS!!!

  • Man it dosen't get any sexier than this. I was 12 when this came out. So later in years I went to work in the music biz in LA. I had the pleasure of speaking to Sylvia many times on the phone. She had fantasies running through my head..ha ha. Ah and very nice. Classy lady. As a man gotta love the women..thx for posting....RIP..!!

  • What beautiful words from all of her fans. One of my all-time favorites for sure! Thank you for "Pillow Talk", "Rapper's Delight" and all of the amazaing music you've given us. A true pioneer. Absolutely wonderful! R.I.P. Ms. Robinson.

    ~Peace & love....

  • Définitivement l'une des mes chansons favorites. Je l'adore depuis l'age de 13 ans

  • From one of the best years of my life - 1973. The music (Barry White, Spinners, Stevie Wonder, Wings, Jim Croce, George Harrison, Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Carpenters, etc.) was some of the greatest ever. Man, if I could go back for one day, I could die pretty much in peace. Thanks for the download of this classic R&B tune.

  • @GregDad100 Amen!!

  • RIP MS.SUGAR HILL RECORDS!!!

  • I believe the artist bio here is incorrect. R.I.P. Ms Sylvia

  • Of course, until recently, this song used to get me soooooo hot. Now, not the same..........

  • She passed away a few weeks ago. My family grew up with hers in Harlem back in the day. She was Slyvia Vanderpool back then. My Grandmother and other family who knew the family personally went to the funeral. Was this on BET? Think not. The woman who brought Rap to the Mainstream of America and she gets NO COVERAGE. RIP Mrs. Sylvia Robinson. DISCARD BET ALREADY. It is becoming worthless.

  • @palmares77 huh when???

  • Who else can NOT STOP swaying in a groovy kind of dougie?

  • I didnt hear........

that MS. SYLVIA passed away 9/29 :-(

I loved her music and this song brings you

    right back to the 1970s'........

R.I.P. to a lovely lady with many thanks to her

    wonderful music & style.

    Love,

    Billy Ralph Weeden.

  • Sylvia really made a lot of ladies fall in love their men back in the day. Slow dancing was always mood setter.

  • Back in the day, this was right up there with Barry & Al.

  • I remember this song from back in '73. I was in the first grade and had a crush on a 17 year old named Marsha... All the boys did.lol

  • this song kills me, somebody call 911

  • WoW.......how could I have forgotten this great 70's song? Freshman year in high school and having a ball. What a great time to be a teen.

  • This song and the opposite sex and the Summer of '73. Slightly sweaty, the smells of Hai Karate and Avon's Here's My Heart mixing to form the most cheap and intoxicatring aroma I had ever smelled up to that time. I stood in front of her with one arm around her waist and the other around her shoulder and pulled her to me, not for my first kiss, but the best I had ever had up till then. In that moment, I was king.

  • this one makes me blush....

  • @palominoh1 You and me both.

  • Listening to this I'm transported back to the summer of 1973 and those early fumblings with the opposite sex.

  • Wow, I remember this tune! Sylvia was so sexy back in the day, and sounded just as sexy, too. Sorry to read of her recent passing, God bless her soul, and her surviving loved ones.

  • Didn`t know that THE LADY had passed on, what pleasure you gave us, sleep well Lady....

  • Ooh, I don't wanna see you be no fool/ What I'm teachin' you tonight, Boy, you'll never learn it in school"

Sylvia Robinson, rap producer and half of 'Love Is Strange' duo, dies

    Sept. 29, 2011, 2:52 PM EST

Sylvia Robinson, the producer of the Sugar Hill Gang's pioneering hip-hop single "Rapper's Delight," died this morning at the age of 75 from congestive heart failure.

  • ***SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET*****

  • RIP the Godmother of Rap

  • rip :(

  • RIP Sylvia. I've been hearing this on AM radio when I was two years old.

  • Wikipedia said Kate Bush used these drums, had to verify. Amazing producer. RIP lady.

  • LOVE THIS SONG. I DIDN'T CONSIDER EARLY RAP FROM THE 70'S HIP HOP AT ALL. IT WAS JUST DISCO PUT ON A FUNKY SOUND AND BEAT, THAT WAS IT. RAP WAS SO MUCH MORE INNOCENT AND A LOT MORE FUN AND DANCEABLE THAN IT IS TODAY, THAT'S FOR SURE. RIP SYLVIA.

    DISCO AL

  • : ( I was just listening to you a few days ago and then Pillow Talk started playing a moment ago and found out about your passing... Rest In Peace

  • RIP Sylvia

  • I was in high school when "Pillow Talk" came out, and remember that it would make me melt like butter whenever I heard it. When I first heard the Sugarhill Gang years later, I was quite surprised to learn that their producer was the very same Sylvia. Quite an accomplishment to become the "Mother of Hip-Hop".

  • Sylvia: My heart has broken; when I was 14 you responded to my fan letter and sent me the most beautiful autographed photo which I have cherished for many, many years; I collected your 78s as Little Sylvia (Savoy) and Mickey & Sylvia (X-Vik-RCA), on up to your fabulous CD "Sylvia Goes Reggae" (Sugar Hill); when I met Joey at MCA Records in the late 80s it was because he noticed your compilation (Vibration) on my desk and got his wonderful mom on the phone so I could talk to you. Love you dearly.

  • @KojiRecords wow what wonderful memories....thats my aunt

  • @itsladyluck I am also upset due to my not passing on to Sylvia and Joey Robinson an audio recording of a phone interview I did with Joe, Sr. regarding his recollections of Linda Jones for proposed liner notes I was writing for a Rhino Records CD compilation on the artist. I had been meaning to burn the interview on cassette to CDR, my having found the cassette recently. In the interview I flipped out when Joe told me that they had acquired the legendary Perception Records/Today Records catalog.

  • Rest In Peace Lady. Thanks you for your contribution to hip hop. The first rap I heard was on my school bus I was a freshman and the older kids in the back used to bump Sugar Hill and Grand Master Flash. I would listen intently thinking "how good is this" Say Happy-Happy-Birthday-Birthday!!! Maybe 1980 After that I made mix tapes of my own using all of my older sisters r&b records on my parents all in one entertainment system. 15+ yrs later Puffy made millions sampling those records.

  • When I 1st read of the death of Sylvia Robinson I thought "Who's that?" until the song PILLOW TALK was mentioned. Much like Cher, Prince and Fabian, Sylvia was known to her fans by only her 1st name. And what a wonderful song this was and still is!

  • R.I.P. MS. ROBINSON... "THE WOMAN RESPONSIBLE FOR GET THE FIRST RAP RECORD PLAYED ON LIVE RADIO." (RAPS 1ST OFFICIAL HIT)

(SUGAR HILL GANG - "RAPPERS DELIGHT") YOUR EAR FOR SOMETHING UNIQUE, AND GOING AGAINST THE NORM... KICKED IT OFF!!!!

  • @That1Thug2Die4 -- Actually 1st rap song on radio was Edd Byrnes and Connie Steven's "Kookie Kookie Lend Me Your Comb." 2nd hit rap song was C.W. McCall's CONVOY.

  • @WytZox1 Lmao!!! You know that was not considered Rap Or Hip Hop... That would be like saying Madonna's "Justify My Love" was the ORIGINAL WHISPER SONG! Lmao!! Then we would say The B.B. King and Blues Singers were Rap artist because a lot of their song were spoken word. Better Yet Dolomite was the 1st Dirty Trash Talking Rapper. Lmao!!! Stop Playing Please...

  • @That1Thug2Die4 -- I stand by my opinion on early rap although it wasn't called rap then. Actually the 1st rappers were square dance callers. Rex Harrison rapped on stage and in a movie when he talked his song lyrics in MY FAIR LADY. Also in a 1930s Laurel & Hardy short, Hardy's wife was yelling at him in time with the music after Stanley turned on a radio. So therefore Hal roach produced the 1st Rap Video! Think about it, dudesicle!☺
